Batons, weapons, armor, and other equipped items need to be dragged from inventory onto the cut out doll on the left side of the inventory screen. If you already have that type of item it will swap and the old one goes to inventory. You won't be allowed to equip items that you don't have enough skill levels and there will be a message in the item description box telling what you need, Food, pods, spores wands, and crystals are kept in your backpack and can be accessed by the quick use slots at the bottom of the main screen or from the abilties menu accessed from the keyboard command "a." Food isn't as useful in this game because it takes several hundred turns before you can eat again.

Door just behind Ascended Alonzo?
Randomizer replied to mikeprichard's topic in Geneforge 1 - Mutagen
I checked and you need to have finished both Tale of the Ascended and Cockatrice Research quests, tell Ascended Alonzo that it is okay for him to rest (die), and leave the zone and return for the door to open. Nothing with talking to Yu-La. -
You see in the battle log the to hit chance when you miss.

Need advice on Feisty Slap Glove (LOL) Guardian
Randomizer replied to BenS's topic in Geneforge 1 - Mutagen
Death blows show full damage and don't show armor/resistnace blocked damage. Still that is a lot. -
There should be a blue power spiral in the room with the machine or the control lever.
-
The power source is the power spiral and on it has a humming word and off it has pfft.
-
The machines drop the items producedt on the floor next to the machine.
-
You get a message if you don't have enough crystals.
-
If your computer can play it, go back to Exile 1 with an 8 slot backpack. Talk about inventory management where you also might not be able to identify the items. Now there you had to decide between taking items to use or leave empty slots for loot.
-
You need to cross from the Eastern Mines through the Mine Core and Western Mines to turn all three green at once. You might need to also talk to the servant mind.

How does experience and leveling work?
Randomizer replied to Your_Humble_Dissenter's topic in Geneforge 1 - Mutagen
A level depends on where you assign skill points. Increasing a shaping skill to give a level to the creations or increasing essence mastery to have more or higher tier creations may make a difference. -
How does experience and leveling work?
Randomizer replied to Your_Humble_Dissenter's topic in Geneforge 1 - Mutagen
You can get more experience for going into what Jeff considered harder area, but most also have harder to hit creations. It tends to balance out with some areas giving little to no experience and others giving lots. The biggest thing you can do is avoid getting experience from reading a Codex or using a creation canister for the first time if you aren't planning to make that creation since they always give each 25 XP. They can add up to about 500 XP that you can use at the end. -
Playing as Pacifist, no spoilers please
Randomizer replied to Magenta's topic in Geneforge 1 - Mutagen
It makes it harder to use creations because they can't attack without breaking the pacifist challenge, it is harder to use stealth to sneak past obstacles, and they can go rogue and attack you if they get damaged. Their only purpose would be to soak up damage which you are trying to avoid. -

1. Mental spells are still considered an attack. You can see it when you look at experience as number of attacks are below it. 2. Jeff eliminated using your creations too even if they just stand there and die cheerfully. 3. Power spirals are fine as in Crag Valley. NPCs can be used like Seerula and the guards in Watchhill. 4. Some areas will never go green, but there are enough to usually have a continuous route through most of the game. Worst is sneaking through Thorny Fens and Pentil Woods, twice to snag the Clear Pentil Gates quest before going through the Pentil Plains. 5. You will never get the levels of a combat game, but you gain more experience because you are at a lower level. 6. Above normal difficulty most creations have a leap to target ability. Dragging creations towards guards becomes a pain as for instance thads in Watchhill. So have plenty of different saves in case you want to try again after that happens. -
Eastern Dock Pylons - I can't get past them
Randomizer replied to Snowwhite's topic in Geneforge 1 - Mutagen
Airshock has the advantage that you can use it at extreme range and be outside the pylon attack range. Pylons have 50% energy resistance so you need a large bonus to kill the, quickly. Shapers using range attack creations have the same problem that those attacks do less penetrating damage because of resistances. So you need to attack with lots of creations that may die, use unstable creations that will cheerfully die to take out the pylon, or slowly whittle them down. -
The key is from Ascended Alonzo in another room to reach the Bunker. The Bunker Control Panel is for dealing with Ascended Oroborus if you have enough leadership.

Don't swear because it is against the Code of Conduct. Back when they first invaded the Fort that you start at, they drop a satchel with a map. Read the map(in your inventory by clicking on it to use) and it has the password on it. Welcome to Spiderweb Software. Please leave your sanity at the door. It is useless here.

Orks aren't as worthless as in previous games with bonus abilities. -
How do charging pools work?
Randomizer replied to Your_Humble_Dissenter's topic in Geneforge 1 - Mutagen
An Agent Solo on torment is possible. There are only a few places where you might have to reload often. I went a different route through the game to pick ip Airshock and then the game was easier. -
Reaper baton is more damage and gets the job done quicker so you can get on with it.

Battle creations aren't as good as the other classes because they lack range attacks. They have more health and the leap is nice, but overall even as a Shaper focused on battle creations they don't last s long. -
Southward of the bleached scroll library are a power spiral and two small green boxes. One has Shaper Records and the other has the Steel Tablets. They go into Special items, /if you want to check whether you got them.

The game will temporarily freeze up as you approach a zone boundary as it loads the information for the new areas, but a total freeze is different. What are you doing when it happens? Combat, exploring, using inventory screens. ....
-
You can enter Kazg from the south by fighting through the patrols or sneaking around them on the bottom and right sides. or with enough leadership, 6 on the north side of Kazg you an enter peacefully.

Unaligned means that none of the factions benefit from your joining them in the end scenes telling what happened to each faction. I did unaligned, too, Not joining the Awakened means missing lots of combat skill training and not joining the Takers means more combat on your way through some zones unless you are a pacifist.
