1. For me I like to listen to mostly metal and anything that is powerful/cool or loud and angry These consist of Rage Against the Machine, Hed Pe, Genitorturers, Audioslave, Monster Magnet, Soundgarden, Drowning pool, Alice in Chains, Jerry Cantrell, Animal Alpha, Djerv, Marilyn Manson, Hellyeah, Pantera, Metallica, Mudvayne ( a lil), Nirvana, and King's X. But then I can listen to lighter/inspirational music once in a while-Drake Bell, Albert King, Tom Petty, Taylor Swift, Kevin Beachem Music (Haha my bro's band counts) I usually like stuff that is like the above but anything I can sing 100% of the song to is good. Hopefully this summer me and my bro will play at a few coffee shops. I think that as of now music is very important to me. I think that I will likely be able to sing Man in the box (AIC) and a few other rock songs from other rock bands at a few local coffee shops in NJ. So what is the type of music that everyone else in spiderweb listens to? Remember there is no wrong answer with music.
2. Just finished fallout 1. I didn't think I would like it at first, but once I got more powerful, the game went by fast. It was a fun game and had some tough decisions/battles. I really hope that before I play fallout 2, I could try another single character rpg like that game. These are the games I play- 1-The Quest-I don't usually like first person but this one is good because its turnbased and looks like daggerfall. Its a lot of fun and has a good story which is better than eschalon's in my opinion. Its also like fallout where you can get through quests and stuff with much different results with high lockpick skill or persuade/personality stats. 2-Fallout series-A lot of fun. I wish more rpgs were this cool. A very mature game like the quest, but fallout shows more gore than the former. I thought that it was cool that I could become just a little tough guy with the right equipment/stats. My character was very versatile and could get through many situations with little problems. I hope underrail when it comes out, is as good as this game series. 3-Eschalon-like the quest, I am getting farther in this game. Its got an awesome build system that is almost infinite. I hope book 3 adds even more skills as this game is excellent. Does anyone know of any single character rpgs like those mentioned? I tried games like Geneforge and even Avernum solo but It took too long to whittle down enemies health as the games weren't meant to be played solo. If jeff didn't have enemies with such a health drag I'd play them but in the Avernum games, its so tedious and takes so LONG to get past one group of enemies its just not worth it.
3. The problem with running into someone who's played/into these games is that where I live, its almost impossible. Almost all of my close friends haven't heard of any of these games. Heck, only 1 person I know has heard of baldurs gate, ice wind dale, planescape. I think its the fact that most people from NJ where I live just play Black ops, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Halo series and other games. The best line I got from someone was this-"I didn't know there was a fallout 1 and 2, are they on regular xbox or 360?" Completely insane. Now I know why Jeff left NJ. Cant say I blame him.
4. Would you say the same of the 2nd Avernum Trilogy? Avernum EFTP is gung ho on melee but some spots are useful to have archers/or an extra magic user. I don't know about the 2nd trilogy though as the only one that is gung ho on ranged combat is 4. Although there are a number of areas where having a dedicated missile weapons expert is useful in Avernum 5. The bandit fortress with all the turrets and a number of the other mid game fights seem to point that having one is needed or almost mandatory. Especially going up close with the slimes. If you have one melee take the edge, while the rest of the party pelts them, thats 2-3 characters that don't need healing.
5. The problem with philosophy is that there is too much what if this isn't true garbage. I was in a philosophy class where the professor talked about this- "If I scratch my nose and the lady gets mugged, what do you think of that?" He would also talk about if you could steal something and get away with it, why not do it. He even joked around about giving us the combination to opening the classroom door to steal something. And that is why I will not take philosophy courses again
6. The biggest problem I see with 2 fighters combo is that the only way you can directly damage mages/spellcasters is through your own. I was surprised I managed to make it past Grah Hoth on normal alone with just 2 fighters. That's one of the only things I prefer of Geneforge, you can move anywhere anytime without repercussions.
7. I found hawthorn to be annoying but I rushed it. Grah Hoth is easier but only because I didn't rush my characters and got extra lvls and because I used the trick of the alcove on the side. I used 2 melee chars and a spellcaster on both playthroughs. Do you think swapping a fighter for a ranger/archer char would make either of these fights easier? Or does it even matter?
8. Harehunter, Thats cool. Yeah a number of my friends are in the military and each one of them is always usually into anyone of party-based games. If they dont like baldurs gate, then its d and d turnbased games like TOEE or Avernum. I was in the rotc but I didnt like it as it just didnt suit my lifestyle. I did go to boot camp for 3 days and it was brutal and later-was funny. Some fool didnt keep the watch and as protocol goes, they woke up everyone in the whole compound up. They couldnt wake me up for a few minutes as I was sound asleep. Eventually the chief picked up my bed with both hands. That got me up, lol. You obviously know a great deal more than me with tactics. If you dont mind me asking, what branch were you in? My grandfather was in WW2 and was lucky to be a messenger. Uncle was in vietnam and responsible for sending rescue units to pick up soldiers whose plane crashed. I watched a movie named Harsh Times about an extremely powerful soldier that was in iraq or something similar and was suffering from post traumatic stress. After watching the movie I think that anyone that was in any of those situations should be allowed free therapy when they get out. Its only right as these people do more than anyone thinks for this country. War isnt fun, but luckily we offer more assistance than most countries.
9. Well Ive played Geneforge 1, 2, and 4 the most, although I only finished 1. In each of those games-Artila, fyora, thahds, claw bugs, and to a lesser degree vlish will die in less than 3 hits with them dying in 1 hit in the first 2 games. All tier 2 creations and below won't make it past the fens of aziraph in Geneforge 4. The reason why is that even if you run past them, all they need to do is gang up on 1 and hit them once. This didn't happen in Geneforge 3 as much because 3 from what I can remember was more balanced and still had the old ap system. I even managed to keep a thahd past 40% of the game. I doubt you can make it any farther though. Geneforge 1 and 2 are ridiculous with regards to the power of late creations. Fighting Glaakhs in general is masochistic and suicidal even with backup creations because they stun you making them extremely deadly in the first 2 games. I think it was the Vlish that got me annoyed and the Glaakhs that finished off what little sanity the vlish left me with. As for Trajkov, he is a tool. My agent didn't have much trouble with him once I figured him out. That was poor balancing the fact that 1 glaahk can give more problems when you first face the thing than the main bad guy can later.
10. I love ranged combat too. But it depends on the game. When I play any of the Avernum games, for some reason the main character that is leading the group (for me) has to be a fighter. When I play Avadon, I'm the exact opposite. I told one of my friends who is in the military that Avadon is the one party based game where ranged combat is not just fun and powerful, its awesome. Every time I read more of Avadon's history, war, politics, alliances-it all makes me believe that jeff had the mindset of a military style rpg. Think about the tactics, get a guy that is armed with more health/armor/what not to rush the enemy drawing their fire, while the finesse marksman comes from behind/far away and takes them down. Its somewhat easy to pull this off in avernum, but in Avadon, its almost required. So yeah I find ranged combat awesome it just depends on the game.
11. If you don't want to go crazy and make a mindless brute with pure strength but you don't want to make a weak character then why not do something in between. Its much more realistic to go with a character that is realistic than someone that is just not. Its the same reason I cant read anymore drizzt books. The character and fight scenes don't fit common sense and the character is completely ridiculous. Most of the fighters me and everyone on these forums made in Avernum are faster, tougher and more deadly than little elfy.
12. One of the things I don't like about creations is that there is a paradox between keeping them or disposing of them. You can like the shaper-use them as disposable, which is useful somewhat. Or you can use them and keep them as a shocktrooper or guardian. The problem with that is that keeping any of the original creations or even tier 2 creations to the end of the game is like complete masochism. They will die in most normal fights. On the same end, there is no reason to keep tier 3 or more creations either as a shaper is constantly upgrading himself. So in reality, when jeff remakes the game, low, mid creations should have more survivability. As it stands now, I don't see any reason to keep a creation which sucks as it should be something that works. Seeing as it doesn't the game is more strategy/rpg and less rpg. The reason why is that your allies don't get upgraded like a normal game like Avernum or Avadon.
13. Unless I missed my mark, Avernum 4 was easier for me for half the game compared to 5 or 6. In Avernum 4, I could at least get to the Chitrachs which were hard but doable. Avernum 5 is easy until you get to the docks and have to fight the mage and other thugs. From there its ridiculous even on easy. I usually stop playing 5 when I get up to the bandit fortress of the Beast. The reason is that the fights are more ranged combat based than melee like Avernum 1 and its remake. You get destroyed if you don't plan every move as your last. I fought the beast once and he's just ridiculous. Avernum 6 I didn't play as much as 4 or 5 but they did some things right. There were more characters/npcs that joined your party for a little while. That's kind of cool for a change. If I had to choose between playing any of them above the half way mark, it'd be either 6 or 4. I'd say the games might be worth completing but not really much of a replayability.
14. I second that. The 1st time I beat Avernum, I killed the emperor. I rushed to it because I thought that you finished the quest and the game was over. I was only lvl 29 so it wasn't anyone's fault but mine. The 2nd time I beat the game with a similar party but this time I got an extra 3 lvls and instead of Hawthorne first, I did Grah Hoth. It wasn't too bad and my characters were not perfect either. The best ending to do first is Grah Hoth, in my opinion.
15. And what happened when Avadon 2 was released, back in Seattle they say, Jeff Vogel's heart grew 10 lvls that day.
16. I like this thread. I am also very much interested in more romance plot type stuff in game. Im not saying it has to go like Dragon Age where it was a practual brothel in each camp, but still would be interesting if there was a bg type romance which would be cool.
17. I don't usually look into rpgwatch but yesterday I saw them write an article with jeff. I had to notice as they butchered his last name, heh. It was a good read and I always enjoy reading jeff's articles. Its funny, I just can't for the life of me play Avadon anymore. There's just not enough combinations for characters like in Avernum. Ive been playing Avernum's new game and its strange how I may not like the story as much as avadon, but the character choices that I want to try out in future characters and whatnot is endless. Guess I'm an avernite and traitor to Avadon. Oh and here's the link for the interview http://pcgmedia.com/interview-with-avernum-developer-jeff-vogal-ceo-of-spiderweb-software/
18. Well melee isnt the best way of attacking but I still used to use it in the past some. I had problems once it came down to boss fights though. Thats where I lost the reason to play melee in Avadon in general. While Shadowalkers and Blademasters both can melee, there are a number of enemy abilities that push you away and make melee much more frustrating. Those abilities are present in Avernum remake but much less common. I would play Avadon with melee primarily if I could use melee for more than 70% of the enemies I want to attack. If I cant then better off sticking with ranged all out. I have heard some people play blademasters with just melee and use teleporting gear and such but I find it hard to believe with some of the strictly ranged fights in game. Maybe its worth further investigation.
19. Yeah, that sounds like me. Wanting to go with melee in a game where it punishes you to not go ranged. I like ranged in Avadon because its so blatantly obvious that it works well, but some part of me still enjoys what part of Avernum EFTP there is. I enjoy melee more because probably there are more variants to it. You can never make the same tank twice and its always a lot of fun to come up with ideas.
20. Well seeing as Avadon 2 is very high on my list of must get games, I would say that this thread be used to talk about new classes, the updated swalker skills of turrets and whatever else. I think that with the new class jeff will either make a barbarian or berserker class which is melee (swords and poles) and ranged (javelins) as Shamans arent as good with ranged as the swalker and bmaster counterparts. Plus they need a javelin wielding berserker warrior dont they? One of the things I like about Avadon that I prefer somewhat to the other games is that its the only game series jeff's made where classes actually behave passively and actively different from one another. In geneforge there is some bit of differentiating but still guardians and serviles have very similar passive stats. So what class will you be- Shaman wielding death with magic.. Shadowwalker assassinating with blade and razordisk.. Blademaster destroying enemies with a bulwark fury of steel.. Sorceress slaying most anything with blasts that gets in her way... I have to say, even without the new class, I really dont know who I am going to play as in this game. Do you?
21. Harehunter's Haven is one of my favorite places to go. Especially when I like to come up with ideas for future chars. If there is any way I can help with the site, I'd like to know as thats a heck of a lot of helpful info that you have there.
22. Lilith, so it seems that if I am to make this work, I should be focused on a heavy amount of endurance and strength-especially endurance to survive damage. It doesnt look like dodging damage is going to work as it follows the Avernum way. Im gonna get my strength, endurance high from get go and use mechanics and leadership till up to 8. To make things better for surviving damage, did you use regeneration from healing craft tree to get back much needed health or is it not worth the time?
23. Originally I was a big gene forge fan and had a lot of fun even though it was frustrating in gene forge 1 with my agent. Now I don't know why, but I happen to like playing gene forge with melee as you have the chance to solo the game. Even though I soloed geneforge 1 as a battlemagic agent, I wanted to make a melee character that can solo with or without magic. What I was going to ask any who can help is if anyone can give advice on how to solo Geneforge 4 and what class to do it with melee best. Now I know that everyone says you should play gene forge 2 with a guardian, but I want to play gene forge 4 with a guardian as I like the ap system of that game and 5 as well. I got up to the fens of aziraph with that game and always lost interest once shaper monarch was there as I am not very good at managing creations. What I am asking is this-What would be an idea setup to solo gene forge 4 as a solo warrior. I usually specialize in strength, melee, quick action to 9, endurance to 8 parry to 8, mechanics and leadership to 8 and a little luck as well. I usually have problems when it comes to dealing with groups of enemies. Since guardians don't have a lot of options for dealing with groups compared to agents, what would anyone recommend for getting through the game with that setup? Should I get blessing magic to 3 and use haste for groups along with regeneration to heal with some health in between or do I have to place points into daze? My main problems come from dealing with bosses/groups and what not. I always like using melee in most of the game and what not and thus playing a magic only character is not going to happen for me. If anyone can help me with what skills to maximize and to what degree for a melee warrior in G4, I would be very grateful. Also Alorael recommended that I go with a servile or infiltrator solo instead of a warrior. I will do that only if warriors are useless for solo. Thanks.
24. I don't know. I don't think I want to play any of the older games any more. Should I contact Jeff or Mariann for a money back or is it too late? Part of me wants to play it again but Ive only had bad experiences with those games.
25.

The problem is that it seems that the people that jeff used to try and please are the people that complain that the game is too hard (are they kidding?). The problem with this is that most players that just get into the game with no knowledge of any of his games, lvl their chars and get up to that fight-only to find that it is impossible due to jeff only making that part beatable with an exploit that a power gamer uses. The problem with that is that most people will NOT ever be able to beat his old games due to that. I partly am annoyed that jeff didn't figure out that this system is broken sooner rather than later. So basically Avernum 1-6, Nethergate Resurrection, and Geneforge 1-5 are not completable without resorting to power gaming stat building and masochism. Why would jeff do that?
