1. Bill Gates doesn't have to do a thing and he still can laugh at the world. Although he has done some kind acts. A man with 5 kids, no money ran into Gates at a mall. The guy apparently had no money, 2 jobs and the world caving in. Gates wrote him a check of 5 million and said now you don't have to worry. That was a nice thing to do even though he didn't need the money. I lalways thought he was cool, after reading that it proved it to be true.
2. We need Avadon 2 before the next superstorm knocks out my internet. Seriously, its happened already
3. So a party of 1 can be done? What about a party of 2 versus 3, is there any real difference in experience gained in a party of 2 rather than a singleton? Ive done a party of 3 twice and I find that the lesser the better
4. Very interesting. I couldn't even remember that you get hirelings in Geneforge 3. Do you ever get hirelings like Alwan and Greta in any other Geneforge other than 3?
5. Well that's over with now. The funeral went as you would expect it-sad. I still miss him as he was closer to me than his son (my dad), but what can you do. He's hopefully in a much more peaceful place. I got to take care of my grandma now as she is my last remaining grandparent.
6. The great thing about this video is that the picture looks like a shaper wielding a scythe. Im not sure why he would want to do that but its a good rock song so it works.
7. Spiderweb can't really die. Even after we are all gone, it will still keep moving. Like the energizer bunny but with more creativity and better characterization.
8. I think when a good amount of power is used its good. But I also think that giving some people positions to moderate are a negative thing. We had 1 worker in the past that was hated by most regular posters to the point where it was causing more work just to keep people off him. I think its good to give positions to those that deserve it but moreso to those that are liked. I think that its important that 'some' people like each of the people. Thats actually interesting-I wonder how well liked I was on elinemedia
9. I think its worse when it affects you more than others. I told my parents that its so disgusting having to watch people go that I'd rather ride shotgun and me pass than watch them or my brother/sisters go. Im not saying that Im selfish because of that, but I would rather deal with the pain/suffering rather than watch people closest deal with it. I think pain is bad for you the person, but watching those pass is worse as its torment. -Mmxpert, condolences to your uncle. The best thing you can do is care for your aunt. That's what I have to do for my grandmother as she cant believe pop is gone.
10. Thanks for the support. The thing I can't understand is how he managed to raise himself when he was out of consciousness. My dad and sister came back upstairs to his hospital room and unlike before he was awake and raring to go. He instantly said that he loved all of us and then right after saying that, he passed. I cant understand how he managed it as he was so physically frail (90 lbs). He will be missed. I just hope that things get a bit better, we've been losing good people and its just lame.
11. Well this year has officially marked/taken many people from my life and its very sad. So many good things have happened with work and regular life, but so many people have passed in the process. First it was my beloved dog annie who died, then my friend larry who was still young, now my grandfather. When does it end? The one thing that brings me back from a point of complete sadness is this community and its people. But even then people are losing people. On top of catastrophes like Newtown-2013 is not a good year. He was like a beacon of hope. If he knew any of you, he would consider you/treat you like his children. Can it get any worse?
12. So this is a good build for normal or should I play on easy? I beat Geneforge 1 on normal with a guardian so I guess I should be ok.
13. This is somewhat true. I read all of his books up to the the Orc King where I stopped. I found that while the characters were cool, the fight scenes were so confusing for the common eye. I'm not saying I don't like them but there were only about 50% of them that I understood what exactly was happening. He's a great author but I found that the Fighters series of Forgotten realms novels was better. Im almost finished with Master of Chains which was excellent. The fight scenes and story was more realistic than feint within a feint within a feint of drizzt books You gotta really ask yourself just how realistic is it when the fighter is preparing for all this stuff when in reality most fights are over within 10-20 seconds. Also the power of his characters is unrealistic and that is something Salvatore has admitted. He openly admitted that most of the fighters in some of the infinity engine games were more powerful than drizzt, artemis and other fighters of the hall. Sarevok, Yaga shura, the Players Character in BG2 are all more powerful fighters than Drizzt, Artemis and the rest of his merry men. Only Obould can kill basically anything in melee with ease. So I guess I got to give him that.
14. I wanted to play a guardian in the 2nd game but wanted to get some blessing magic and access to spellcraft as well. So I had an idea where I could focus on the following skills for success but with an AGENT instead-Strength, Melee, QA, Parry (a bit), leadership, mechanics and luck. With spellcraft I can have a decently good healing craft from spellcraft and pump blessing magic to a decent amount early on giving access to awesome bless spells. This will be like playing a guardian with limited magic to enhance herself. I am not going haywire with parry as a guardian and will focus on luck a bit for armor/resistances. Im going to be playing on normal in case it matters. Will this build work for an agent if I solo as if I were a guardian?
15. The most important stats early on for a solo guardian are MELEE and QUICK ACTION. Quick action allows you to 1 shot 1 kill enemies that aren't bosses with a good enough chance. Melee and to some respects strength allows you to hit them so you can 1 shot them in the first place. I don't think its possible to 1 shot 1 ko regular enemies with just raw strength and melee without at least a moderate QA. I may be wrong however. Edit: I thought this was a solo guardian, its not
16. The skill trees will work well for all the classes including the new class: Tinkermage. Im not really into turrets so much but it looks like a very interesting class based on the walkthrough that Craig Stern did on the class and other classes. I wonder how he will work out with strengths/weaknesses compared to the other warrior classes.
17. Determination is a good thing. Its good to have with good ideas and even better when they are from people who really care about what they are determined about. Its bad when the determined is not right in the head and nefarious If you keep at it, you can see something done with enough time spent.
18. The user would operate on the sidelines between neutral/bad. We wanted to ban them because they caused some trouble but couldn't because they would never push it too far. It was a bad practice but when people can make your own games and other people can critique those games-adversity is naturally higher than most forums.
19. Ive been thinking on what makes a good forum and have come to a few ideas. When I used to work for Eline Media, we would get all these kids that were ages 5-16 and even higher that would find a way to break through the system. I would always time and again tell the bosses that we should just ban the members that were breaking the rules. I should explain-some people on site were always finding ways around making fun of other members as if they knew the rules so well that they could find ways around them. It was incredibly frustrating but it was funny as anything. They eventually banned the user I think but the fact remains that if someone is breaking the rules of a forum even in a way that is allowed what can you do? The question is should a forum be given too much power to people that can affect what happens on the site. Or a moderate/good amount of power. Or should they simply rule by kindness. Ive been on a few forums and ruling by kindness works up until users turn into blackguards. Its ok to run a community by being respectful but some forums don't even have any moderation whatsoever. The community is simply run by altruistic bullies who enforce everything through fear. Ok, thats nice but its still nuts. I'm not complaining but this question has been racked in my head.
20. Triumph, Ok I think you managed to convince me to go with Geneforge 2 The only thing I didnt want to happen was for me to make a character that ONLY relies on parry for everything. I would give it a go if I can still get the jump on enemies and not get 1 shot if I choose to not pump parry as much. In previous time I played that game I didn't go with a high parry but to make matters worse I forgot about endurance completely.
21. Congrats and just know this-In 30 years time we will all need jeff to give each of us the same life-altering serum that red beard took. It might be a while from now but know it will be worth it if we are still here
22. I was thinking of using a build that would have worked in G1. Seeing as quick action is useful but only when high in lvl, would it be possible to get it to a low lvl and then instead of parry, focus on strength/melee, endurance and dexterity. I figure that with dexterity, it will also give me acid resistance and fire resistance as well as evasion. You may not deal as much damage when you get a double attack, but you will deal more damage normally with a higher strength/melee amount. I was going to try that in G3 but would it be possible in G2? I just figured that it would be like swapping quick action with dex which isn't the worst. I could still get a somewhat ok parry if that is possible. The only reason I ask is because I want to try something different and make it work.
23. I usually will go for the solo play with melee and limited magic. I find that if I use daze or other game breakers it makes it to easy and eventually I lose interest. I'd play an agent with melee but if I did then I would only use blessing and heal magic and likely wouldn't touch mental or battle magic. The cool thing about agents is while they don't get access to a lot of healing spells, with spell craft at a cheap cost, they might as well be 50 times better at the healing spells than the guardian with just a little canisters to help with getting some higher spells. I would make my agent just like my guardian was with decked out strength, endurance, quick action, melee. I would probably stay away from parry and maybe place a few points in luck. Id use that in Geneforge 3 but I don't know how viable it would be.
24. Thanks both, appreciate it. You know what I did was something that works very well. I would engage a group of 2-4 enemies at once and take down 1 until the group is down to 3 vs 1. From there I will fight them as best I can and will likely either take down 1 (80% of the time) or get them badly beaten. When I get damage big time which is usually what happens, I will go back to a corner and press end combat and combat mode hop until I am fairly far away. With that in mind I will heal in real time mode with sometimes going back to combat mode to regroup back around a corner. I based this build on a decent amount of heal magic so I could get from 20 health back to 170 in 1 or 2 casts. It was a lot of fun. Im not really even sure that I know what game to play next in the series. I played Geneforge 2 up till late in the game but wasn't thrilled that guardians were even more crazy. I usually like it when the class I play has flaws but is still dangerous. Like this char. Geneforge 2 was insanely powerful with guardians to the point where I think a glitch happened where I parried a gazers blast (something that should not happen) I was thinking of Geneforge 3 but never really played much of it.
25. Its been almost 2 years since I messed up my agent in Geneforge 1 and cursed the games. I kind of put this shackle on me which I thought I wouldn't be able to complete one of jeffs older games. It was very annoying and because I wanted to convince myself I don't suck, I just completed the first gene forge with no creations, solo obeyer-aligned melee guardian. I wanted to solo a guardian for a long time as it really was one of my favorite classes. I used to think agents were my favorite but then I had this idea that if a tough guy warrior can solo the game, then that would be awesome! My skills were mostly in melee weapons and quick action which were in twenties. I had a decent strength and endurance and a few skill points in mechanics/leadership. The character has led me to believe that a guardian or any melee type character with high melee/quick action, can lay any other character out in less than 1-2 rounds. I don't think there was 1 enemy that could take 2 hits of my sword and my character couldnt have been the craziest as I only had a mediocre anatomy and no ap adding numbers. Again I'm sorry this isn't real news to most, its just that for me this is like MAJOR as I used really little guides and came up with my own tactics and stat raising. The curse was lifted as Trajkov left the building!
