  1. I think that its really there in small parts. When I first played Avadon, the Shadow Beast was kind of freaky within that forest. Coupled with the fact that most of the first times that battle can be tricky if you are not used to the game. When you are not used to playing and you got this weird looking wolf, it can have some of those elements in there for you to see. Geneforge is really the game where you have to worry about getting eaten. Especially with solo characters.
  2. If you ever think that we get tired of helping you are wrong. I made an agent in Geneforge 1 who is of EPICLY bad proportions and needed 5 moderators to save her to the end. I still have the character on my old computer. You may think that you messed up a few times, I can assure you we still will help as much as we can If I ever get that end game save Ill post her stats as its so bad its comedic. I remember I have one save which shouldn't have even happened where as soon as I load the game, Trajkov blasts me into the wall within a half a second, lol.
  3. I find that Jeff will no doubt remake Geneforge but the funny thing is that he states in one of his game manuals near the credits that everything he does in future will use a little bit from Geneforge when he makes it. Avadon had a few things/traits that were taken from Geneforge but was still very much a party based game. Im hoping that "one" of the next game series he makes has the single character focused world of Geneforge. Its got to be one of the cooler things when you've got a class or classes that can go solo. That's something most games don't have. The only game I can think of that's party/solo based like that is Baldurs Gate and Planescape. Planescape is more focused on party but BG can be either way.
  4. In Avadon, you can follow the main quest and most if not all the time, you will be able to defeat the enemies before you. In Avernum, all I do is since I can't find enemies to slay past lvl 10, is I go and exp farm for random encounters by the ogre cave near tower of magi. I eventually move from that to great cave, from there I do a few things. I don't usually do any REAL quests in great cave until lvl 17. The problem is that I will get into a dungeon and defeat most of the enemies only to be defeated by the last. Its not because I can't hit, its because they are way too out of my league. I usually get bored with it and pickup Avadon which I CAN play.
  5. Avernums got a good area to explore, I just wish it wasn't so long and I could exp faster. I had 2 parties I made in the past 4 months. 1 was somewhat weak and got close to SLith King, the other beat the slith king and is lvl 26. The reason I stopped playing at that lvl is that I got bored of trash mobs and didn't have the patience to find enemies to slay that I COULD. That and the fact that when I could find enemies to fight, they would barely get me a 1/4 of a lvl before it was done. The only time you have guaranteed enemies to kill is a few places I would go around. Other than that, hopefully Avernum Crystal Souls will have more areas back to back with exp
  6. And making a new game funds his sanity, although remaking that game loses his sanity.
  7. The Geneforge series could use a remake.
  8. Rogues are usually always the fragile character who can't fight as well as fighter but usually comes off better and more versatile. Look at Avadon. Just like Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 and even Planescape, thieves are better than fighters in nearly anything other than taking hits. I went through Baldurs Gate Enhanced Edition with 2 single class thieves-My shadow dancer and imoen. Imoen didn't even have to get her hands dirty. I backstabbed Sarevok 3 times within 10 seconds killing him without his casters proving a threat. Imoen had the monopoly game ready for me when I got back. Planescape is another one for rogues as they can get a close match of health to a fighter as their hp gain is matched when you add to con. Also backstab is just as good if not better in Planescape as you reach lvl 21 at game end. That gives you almost 200 health, decent thaco/damage as you still get specialized mastery in weapons, backstab at x5 and ability to hide in major boss fights like endgame. The rogue class is only nerfed in Icewind Dale as they can't hide at all. There was something wrong with hide mode. Still sneak attack though. Anyway back on track. Rogues usually dominate these games with versatility. Avernum's the only one that really doesn't as there really are no classes. Im sure if you really wanted to label the rogue class in Avernum it would be a strong fighter that almost has an emphasis on dexterity and grace rather than brute force like fighter with strength and endurance. Thats just my interpretation. I still think fighters would dominate avernum, no contest as rogues can't evade everything.
  9. The best thing with shadowwalker is that they are not heavy with a large health pool as the blade master. However they can take more hits when they DO get hit due to high physical resistance. Im not a big number cruncher but I would say shadowalkers hold a resistance score on par with fighters in Avernum The Pit, that is if you go all middle column. Go dex and endurance like others said. The best thing about them is that they can leap around the place and provide excellent tactics in battle. They also deal on par damage with blade masters in ranged combat. With 2 attacks per round once you invest in first middle column, they are overpowered in my opinion.
  10. It all depends on what you like/prefer. My taste may differ from others but I would say even though ranged has ups, I prefer to go with melee. However I will say this-Avernum has unlike the other game series managed to find some bit closer of a balance between melee and ranged. Avadon has ranged powerhouse and Geneforge is mostly melee, shaping or magic.
  11. One of the things I never could understand was why linear is sometimes considered a really bad thing to many people. For me, while I like Avernum's roleplaying and freedom of skills/stats better than Avadon, the linear approach just works much better for me. Its usually always that way. Most of the time my biggest problems with nonlinear are from the fact of the learning curve mixed in with it. Take baldurs gate series for example. A non d and d player at the time, it was a fairly difficult game to figure out. The rules are bogus and THACO means nothing. It took my best friend and me combined numerous amount of times to figure it out. On top of the fact that you could easily go somewhere where you get trumped makes matters worse. Now Ive gotten through the game 7 times and a few times even solo but the moral of the story is that linear can sometimes be not only a lifesaver but a good thing. The only time it doesn't really matter is when its fallout, eschalon or planescape, the quest because frankly they are somewhat easy in difficulty. The Quest is hard and brutal but its fairly straightforward where you are supposed to go even though nonlinear. Some people called Lionheart Legacy of the Crusader terrible because of the linear storyline. The rating on gog is terrible compared to other games of that era. I thought it was a little hard but I managed to complete it last week. There seems to be a pattern here.
  12. The one thing I didn't miss from school was bullying. Aside from that Junior and Senior years were manageable.
  13. Earth Empires, I couldn't agree with you more. I thought that Avadon 1 had much better music. Avernum Escape from the Pit was up there, Avernum 6 was even more monks, Avernum 5 while I never completed it, had my favorite/the best music. It sounded eerily cool and nefarious. Geneforge 5's music was cool too.
  14. The only thing I can gather is that the npc with the two-face has to be some kind of shape-shifter class. But Im hoping that isn't the class as there would be no ranged weapon
  15. Avadon has a much better story in my opinion but lacks class customization. Avernum lack any reliable story but character customization is about as endless as Eschalon. That says a lot for that because Eschalon/Avernum are some of the best. If you like customizing characters and making your own unique classes you might be familiar with this. Fallout 1 and 2, Eschalon, The Quest and Avernum are the best with that. If however, you are into really awesome gameplay in battles, Avadon is hands down better. I prefer Avadon because thats just a very good mix of everything in rpgs I like. Im not going to say that Avernum isn't good. Its just like was said-"If you want to slowly but surely find enemies who you can take out while dodging ones that murder you, Avernum is awesome. The reason being is that when you get to a higher lvl you can actually appreciate the fact that your characters are tough/gone through a lot from getting this far. They are both darn good games.
  16. The best part (and most unique) is that people are so different. One of my friends told me that happy music makes him sad and angry/depressing music makes him happy. I can listen to a happy song a few times but usually will listen to loud/angry music over and over again.
  17. How would you rate Geneforge 1-5 being as you completed them all. I thought that Geneforge 1 was my favorite, followed by Geneforge 2. I haven't completed 3-5 but I didn't really like from 3 on. I think that Geneforge 3 was ok but it was much harder than the other 2 games. Geneforge 4 and 5 I didn't like the change of ap from between then. So I guess Geneforge 3 I might try again seeing as it has same ap and you raved about it. When I play Geneforge, I usually abuse the heck out of the ranged weapons. I am good at soloing and occasionally use creations but prefer evasive and sneaky tactics. I tried to get into Geneforge 4 and 5 with that but it makes ranged weapons own much less.
  18. Im trying to find out more games that are funny/comedic you can play on ios. So far I have 2 as I don't think Dredmor is on there. -FaceFighter -Enviro-Bear 2010 I now have a new setup so while taking the train I have much time to kill. I can never get into a serious game during a train trip but playing facefighter or envirobear is always possible as its just so stupid its funny. Would anyone know of any IOS games that are just funny/stupid each time you play? I like games like that because during the train its easy to get into. The bear game in particular is ridiculously stupid but hilarious. You control a grizzly bear that is driving a car, lol. He also can only use 1 hand to drive to make matters worse. Its got to be more funny than some movies Ive seen as its just so stupid. If anyone knows any ios games out there that are comedic, feel free to post them as I cant get enough of this stuff
  19. I would say I'm a weirdo for my likes/dislikes so there is nothing wrong with you liking Geneforge more than Avernum I like Avadon and Avernum the most and thats not the norm with Avadon being my fav. I like Geneforge as well but not as much as I used to. Usually fans are either only like Geneforge series, Or like Avernum only Or Avernum and Geneforge with a dislike for Avadon Or like all of his games.. Avernum and Avadon are two complete polar opposites. The only thing they have in common other than Geneforge is that you control party characters instead of monsters. Avadon is linear, Avernum remakes-nonlinear
  20. Whenever someone said that its all the more reason to go at it. I usually find its the most encouraging thing to help with that, although it shouldn't be. Writing's tough and music is too. I would say I should stick with music and write a comedy or children's story when it pleases me
  21. Upon Mars, you have a gift and should pursue writing in the future. Its not easy to get popular but you can if you try at it. I'm still doing research on finding the perfect genre for me. JK Rowlings is a good writer but most of what got her was that she found the right niche that works for her.
  22. Well Avadon has problems because people don't like the beginning. Most think its boring. Avernum the Pit has problems because late in the game you don't gain lvls as fast and its just a real drag. Im at lvl 25 and gaining a lvl is like a chore as the only thing that gives exp is random encounters/exploring. The problem is that exploring can start out good where you are gaining exp until you run out of enemies and then need to go back to finding enemies. Random Encounters sometimes occur but other times don't come up. I find that Avadon is more balanced with gaining exp and even if you don't do a lot of sidequests, you can still finish the game relatively early and at lvl25 or whatnot. Even though Avadon is a little boring in the beginning, it picks up once you get to Zhethron and once you do the beast as well. Those are fun quests. I can understand why someone might not finish the Avernum games if they don't like long games but Avadon really gets very engaging at Zhossa Mindtaker. You really got to pay attention there.
  23. I completed Avadon 1 one time in 15 hours but I wouldn't call that quick. If someone was able to do below 10 that'd be fast. My lvl was only 22 so I guess I still need to work on that
  24. This is somewhat related but I was going to ask-What is the shortest time to complete a spiderweb game? Im saying possible so that would mean freakishly short. Seeing as most of these games are long, freakishly short times are almost unheard of.
  25. Im currently trying to contact the main head of the site about getting a page like Eschalon will have for all its games. Spiderweb has everything their site asks/wants/and should have. The only thing Eschalon has that spiderweb doesn't is better graphics. That kind of sucks sometimes.
