  1. Its not just that, look at the history which is something Ive been reading lately in journal. Redbeard and Telera are known to be some of the most powerful people (almost gods) in the whole world. They've enhanced their life and made themselves almost untouchable. In a way, it actually makes sense that fighting him in his time of power wouldn't work. Look at tarkus. I just hope that in Avadon 2 I can choose more than 1 ending. That'd be cool and I think Jeff will do that.
  2. I kept the same notion in my mind as well. If I thought some of the later fights were hard, I dont want to imagine redbeard.
  3. You know what would be cool-Annual spiderweb meetup day. I bet I'll be the first person that challenges Jeff to a game of chess, and then loses after 3 moves.
  4. For me I just feel like if I am having a good day and am enjoying myself at home, why not stay up till at least 2am. For me I have no point in going to bed early when I dont have work the next day. My father is completely the opposite to me. Going to bed every night (even weekends) at 8:30pm. They called him grandpa in college. Truly a fitting name as I dont know anyone person that has done the same. lol
  5. Congratulations Jeff. I know you probably get many of that now but hey-Avadon is now on good old games. http://www.gog.com/gamecard/avadon_the_black_fortress
  6. Jeff's gotta be releasing the announcement soon. After all, he removed Avernum 6 from the game page on the main site. Hopefully that means something
  7. I just did the switch tactic and it worked on the 2nd try. Its actually not that bad of a fight. Much appreciated Randomizer as you saved me a lot of aggravation. I would say that it was a little less tough fight than the Emperor fight. However I knew the game this time around.
  8. I had the weirdest thing happen. I was playing as my 2 fighters and 1 hedge wizard. I got up to the demon lord Hoth and he spoke his obsceneties. After that, my first fighter cast a scroll which frenzied my whole party and with the remaining ap, got close to the skeletons on left. My tank/stronger fighter went to hoth and started slashing him. My wizard cast 2 spells of arcane blow at grah hoth and took a great chunk out of him. This went on without almost anyone getting hit for alot for the next 4 rounds. I got him to 35% of his health and the gazers came and that ended my little battle. It was such a shame as every attempt after that was a disgrace and never went how I wanted. Had i thought of using invulnerable potions the 1st attempt i would have beaten him. I am playing on normal, what is the best offense-my 2 fighters going balls out in the beginning while my mage spellcasts, then invulnerable pots for all? Or should I try to use my tanks as defense and use my mage as offense? I kind of wish i could go back to my first try
  9. Its all a mixed bag but in reality no I don't. I feel better the night before thinking of everything I want to do tomorrow. Then when tomorrow comes, I'm still exhausted. And when I was in high school it was even worse. I'd go to bed at 3 in the morning and get up the next day at 6am. I'd get to school and everyone in there would think I was the biggest stoner kid due to my red eyes. I remember once (on 4/20), someone asked me if I was ready for tonight. I didn't know what they were talking about at the time and asked what 4/20 meant. They then laughed and told me I was already there. Only my close friends knew that I never touched drugs, while the rest of the school thought I was this huge stoner.
  10. Dungeons of Dredmor isnt free, but $5.00 can barely be called expensive. Most people would agree that DOD is the most beginner friendly of the roguelikes. Its also alot of fun and if you are into that dark/ side of humor, it can make you laugh alot in the process. Its cool because its easy to figure out yet you have to learn how to plan your character. I like it because you make alot of your big decisions with your character early on as you powerup fast in the beginning. Big decisions are still made throughout the game. If you want something more serious but very much in the similar vein, try-tales of maj'eyal or TOME for short. TOME is very much more complicated like the rest of the roguelikes are. TOME is free too. Edit-Almost forgot this one. Cardinal Quest is $5 and has no drm. Its a good game and the only real difficulty is finding which class works for you. My favorite is the fighter class but after I beat it (or if i beat it) I will try out the rogue class. Since everything is turnbased, I can see why it would be thrilling to play the rogue class as it is a pick off 1 enemy type. I would never try the mage/wizard class though as they are pretty frail.
  11. I agree. However sometimes (when a game is not as long) I find the permadeath to be an inspiration to keep playing. I had a game (Cardinal Quest) that got me playing as a warrior (my always favorite class). It was fun that I lost the game because I realized that maybe I should only try and tank 2 foes at a time instead of 3.
  12. I couldnt get into Roguelikes at first but now I am enjoying them immensely. I found a roguelike named TOME, Tales of Maj'Eyal that is really a cool game. Its very much like a lot of roguelikes-Complicated but many choices to choose for class. Im currently playing as a Bulwark, that is a shield using warrior that is defensive based. Its got a great following which is really good as it makes things better for people like me-that is the currently inexperienced noob I happen to think that turnbased roguelikes that do certain things right, can be very very good. Has anyone on these forums been a deadly roguelike master? Im still a noob and have already died and lost my 1st character, but im getting better and it is after all just one char to control.
  13. But was Blades of Exile a success or was it a failure like BOA?
  14. You know whats insane about all this. Most of the people that play violent games, don't actually lead violent lifestyles. Its been proven as a study. I myself don't play games like that because I find it hard to do choices like that, but that doesn't mean someone else shouldn't. You'd be amazed that jeffs games are pg on the site as its a fairly mature nature but mostly they don't show anything. They should be going after movies/tv series if they think games are bad. I watched series 1 on spartacus and its literally just a slashfest. They were even killing children that are about 14 years old. People kill people, not video games.
  15. I was going to say Ghostbusters but I know they are on vacation.
  16. I spoke with Ido from Cardinal Quest and he said that he either had to think about making the graphics pretty, or leaving it as is and working on the regular features. Its a lot of fun and I would prefer if most game developers had that mindset as the people that really care, could care less about graphics and more about gameplay. There's 3 character classes each with different ways of playing the game.
  17. That my friend is exactly why I love games like that. They let you do the work at how you experience the game and how the battles/the tactics get planned out.
  18. I know this forum is naturally cool when it comes to many things but I myself am starting to care much less for new graphics in future games. I have been playing "Cardinal Quest", an oldschool roguelike and find it very refreshing to gaze at compared to Neverwinter Nights 2 or something with 3d. I find graphics from the following games to be utter excellence-Avernum1-6, Geneforge 1-5, Avadon, Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, Icewind Dale 1 and 2, Eschalon Book 1, 2, Planescape Torment I find the graphics of the games listed to be perfect in my list with Planescape as the highest one. Do most of you prefer the graphics of Spiderweb's recent games or would most of you like Dragon Age or something more high quality.
  19. I decided to give this game a go as its been a while. I noted that one of the problems I had with this game was my fighters surviving onslaught of enemies. I usually make my party 3 characters which I like as that is how I play through Avernum remake. I always get too much trouble with the 2nd scenario made by jeff. I need to know what is a better Defensive Skill for Avoiding Damage-Parry or dexterity. I usually pump the general skills of strength, endurance and weapon skills and hardiness, assassination with the other character using dexterity but it never works. I usually dont unlock parry in time and cant level up to the point where it matters. Does anyone know any good ideas for leveling your fighters so they dont get destroyed by mass amount of enemies?
  20. The best side quests you could do are your companion sidequests as they give the most exp. The reason I always do them is because they are long and usually the more enemies the better. There are also a few small quests you could do other than that. You can do the house in Kellemerendel that has the creatures in it (theres a quest about this) in town. There's also a bunch of small quests in the fortress that give some exp like Hand Callans quests-Brasula, Searching for tarkus. Then there is Eye Leira who needs a few things done. There are a few quests if I remember from the wretch in Redbeards upper part of the fortress. If you want you can try some of the Wayfarer quests as they give experience but mostly I would say to go with the companion quests and see if you can pick up a level or 2 from some of the other small quests.
  21. I wish you all the best with that. I know that I probably could teach a class. I just dont think I would want to as Im currently employed. Still hope things go well for you.
  22. I finished my bachelor's in college 2 years ago and I dont think I need any more learning. After dealing with teachers missing 15 classes out of the 30 that we're supposed to meet, I think Ive had enough of Kean. I understand if a teacher doesnt want to have class, but dont make me drive an hour up to school just to find that out. Jeez...
  23. One of the things I love about Avadon is that it has the most direct story but at the same time, still allows you to go back and do something/pick up another quest from time to time. I find that when a story wanders and tends to be too non-linear, I lose track of the story. Other great examples of this would be Avernum 4, 5 and Im not sure about 6 as I havent played that. Avernum 5 was a good example of this and I probably should finish that game one of these days.
  24. Glaahks werent that hard in G3 and G4, at least not much as I remember the first 2 games were. The first game when I first fought that thing with my agent, I thought the game was over. Usually I can get to Fens of Aziraph in G4 but once that happens, it just gets impossible and the game ends. I played that part over 4 times and the Monarch still gets me each time.
  25. Thats a cool tactic. My favorite tactic in Geneforge 2 is to creep up to a turret or or pylon that is normally hard to take down. From there I let a creation (in this case a roamer) and attack it from afar drawing its attention while it attacks the creation. Meanwhile my guardian comes over from the opposite side of the wall and takes down the turret with a strike from his sword. Usually if its not dead at that point, it will be soon in the next round.
