  1. Ive gone through it numerous times and Ive reached a conclusion that Geneforge 4 and 5 are the hardest games in the geneforge series due to the ap change of 5 ap to 1 ap per action. Now that I think of it, the Geneforge 1 and 2 and even 3 ap system is STILL much much better than the newer ones. Here's a few reasons why- -In the earlier games, you can go near an enemy and lure them away so you can take them out with melee. In later games you cannot do this and if you can they can all attack you at once. -It made shapers/mages/ranged creatures much more strategic to fight -Most boss battles are gigantic slugfests as there are no real tactics to go through -Made ranged builds actually deadly as you can get off 1 or 2 or even 3 shots off (much like Avadon) I really hope jeff doesnt keep this system in place for future Geneforge remakes. The newer system just flat out sucks and while it does have a few good things, it mostly is weak compared to former.
  2. What I found helps in a party is that each character has a large quantity of potions that they can use regarding multiple circumstances. I find that if a fighter can heal instead of relying on the priest (who normally could blast with a aoe) it maximizes what you can do in the battle. Of course I play on normal so I don't know if that may help. I think that when it comes down to curing an opponent with an assortment of statuses, its much better to just heal them to max hp.
  3. To be completely honest, I don't mind the grind that much. I'll get to 32 or 33 for the whole party. So my higher level will be 35. Thanks for the tips!
  4. Im currently 28 and the rest of my party is 25. On previous play through (1st play through) I did the emperor quest at 30 with all the party at the same level. Should I wait until the rest of my party is at 30 (I'll prally be 33) to do Grah Hoth or is he harder than the emperor end game quest? Thanks.
  5. Blades works just fine on mac/pc of both my mac and pc with the good old games version. I don't think its on there, but whatever you do, avoid steam at all costs.
  6. The manuals are only for Avernum 3-6 and Blades of Avernum. Someone was asking why there were none for Avernum 1 and 2. That is something I never understood. I have the whole game Avernum 1 and the demo of 2 and neither of the manuals open for my windows 7.
  7. Its finally happened. One of my favorite games to play and generally talk about is finally on good old games including Avernum 1-6. Seeing as Geneforge was received well, I doubt that Avernum won't do the same. Congratulations Jeff, you have just conquored 1 part of this world. http://www.gog.com/
  8. Fighting a dragon in Avadon? Yeah thats got to be brutal as I had a somewhat challenging time with the drake Zhossa for the 2nd time. I can imagine that without a good amount of dexterity things will get ugly.
  9. This is a very good thing. I cant list how many times I clicked on Geneforge series when I was trying to click for G5.
  10. Ive said it once and I'll say it again-Shapers are the way to go. While rebels may sound more benevolent at first, they are not so much when you figure that they do everything that shapers do and MUCH worse.
  11. Wait a second. Is it possible that installing an old game like BOA might cause problems with slow or with the animation in general? I only ask because that was the last program that went on the computer.
  12. So what your saying is open up task manager and see what is going on? Im not sure how to do that on mac. I know how to do it on pc but is it the same on mac?
  13. But what doesn't make sense to me is why was it fast before, but now its slow. I don't know what I did recently that could cause it to change its mind. Edit-just checked and its already on minimum graphics
  14. I am having a similar problem with slow in my game as well. I just checked Avadon and all other games from spiderweb and they run fine. However, Avernum Escape from the Pit, is running very slow on the main screen, movement and loading the world. The weird thing is that the computer is a brand new mac only about a year old. This only started yesterday is moderately worse today. Before that, the game was just as fast as the other new games. Edit-Specs: Model Name: Mac mini Model Identifier: Macmini5,1 Processor Name: Intel Core i5 Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 2 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 3 MB Memory: 2 GB Boot ROM Version: MM51.0077.B0F SMC Version (system): 1.76f0 Serial Number (system): C07GW1AZDJD0 Hardware UUID: 2D4F42D2-1CEE-5276-82B4-8A3636F89340 Any ideas?
  15. I can see being frustrated with a game about one problem, but cursing at someone's another story. I had a problem with Inquisitor because the game is really hard in the beginning, but the maker's stated that the game was meant to be that way for the reason that it was an old school game. Even then, if anyone wants to play a game that is truly tough, try Inquisitor and hope that you stock up on like 20 potions in the beginning.
  16. I usually play on normal and don't change it, except for Geneforge 1 which was ridiculous on easy and the only game I completed. Ive insisted with jeff that if I can't play through the game with an enjoyable experience on normal difficulty, then there's no reason to play the game at all.
  17. This is not related but I like your profile picture Trenton. It reminds me of the only Zelda game my brother completed that I didnt
  18. No, what I did in the rerelease is I made a hedge wizard who had the most needed spells from priest spells like the aoe healing spells, then I go all out with mage spells. I use the 2 tanks as an offense and a defense for my wizard. My hedge wizard casts aoes on enemies and heals the tanks when they get low. It worked really well in the other Avernum game and I didnt have very little trouble save coming back to a harder fight later.
  19. Well I can understand the crazy exploits for certain games. Avernum's reremake's exploit is that melee is powerful when you max out hardiness and place points into strength and endurance. I can understand that and it has become the most simplistic. Avadons is fairly simple too-place points into dexterity and endurance and your good. Again fairly simple. I'd like to make a melee party in Avernum 5 that is fairly simplistic like my two Avernum parties in the rerelease. The only problem is that I dont know which route I should go. Some people's guides on here say that strength, endurance and skill with weapons and a little quick action. Others say that you HAVE to get parry and blademaster. On top of that, I dont know which trait to get, good constitution and elite warrior or divine touched alone. I really dont know which person/guide to believe.
  20. My biggest problem lies in the almost enormous amount of abilities that are available for melee fighters Avernum 2nd trilogy. I screw my characters up from placing points in the wrong stats and then the fights that normally arent too hard become impossible on any difficulty.
  21. Im just about finished with Avernum Escape from the Pit, my 2nd play through the great game. At this point I really have run out of games to play for spiderweb. Its kind of lame as Ive had previous tries with the other Avernum second trilogy but all have ended with failure to progress past a 1/3 of the game. I find that usually with the early to late beginning I have very few problems, but as soon as the game reaches close to the middle, the game becomes too hard and even lowering the difficulty doesnt work. My biggest problems run with any of the games before the new stat system in Avadon and Avernum Reremake. I find that Avernum 4 and 5 are ruthless although I havent played 6. And dont even get started on Geneforge series as those games are brutal. I kind of wish that Jeff had more titles with the new system than more so with the old way.
  22. I always use sword and shield with mostly every fighter build I play in Avernum. I find it to provide good defense and still hit fairly hard with the right weapons. I will one day try a dual wielding sword setup but will likely use daggers to make it more interesting. The only setup I could never get into at all would be spears because Avernum Escape from the Pit gives no logical reasoning of why you would want to. Flaming blade and radiant short blade provide better bonuses from what I can see.
  23. It was better in every way in my opinion. They took out the sci fi heavy bits and made the remake a non-stop action flick with little talking in between and less sci fi. Jessica Biel is good as always and the main character's wife is 5 times crazier than the one with arnold. Im not the biggest Arnold fan so I might be biased towards the new one. Definitely loads of fighting going on reminded me of Safe house.
