Well-Actually War Trall Doctor Albert Halfmann
A fine idea, Sylae! I cannot claim to be well-versed with the vagaries of this board software. As such, ye shall not have a choice whether or not to take in my rakish charms! Both from a couple months ago, taken at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. From around the same time, soon after my acquisition of an album most dear to my soul.

Thanks, Trenton. Yeah, in high school I sported a 'stache that was virtually invisible as well. It was a bit sparse, but more importantly the individual hairs were very fine. 'Twas the definition of 'peach fuzz.' Facial hair definitely does seem to grow back faster with each shave, though after some time a growth rate limit will be reached which is probably different for each individual. This year, I had a job and took pains to shave away the stubble around my mustache at least once a week. I did find that it seemed to grow back faster once I adopted this habit. Most importantly, though, shaving somehow makes the individual hairs thicker. My whiskers these days are easily the most robust hairs on my head. So, yes, I would have to recommend fairly frequent shaving.

No, that is a myth. I too am jealous of your epic mustache, Stughalf. I have my (East) Indian heritage to thank for it, really. I've never met an Indian chap that wasn't capable of growing copious facial hair from a fairly early age. I wonder whether anyone has compiled statistics regarding facial hair for different ethnic groups. I suppose the subjectivity of it all would make things difficult. Dark facial hair always shows up better, especially when it contrasts with a much lighter skin tone. White males with light-colored hair, like Sylae, must grow their facial hair out quite a bit before it will be noticeable.

Also, the older peach fuzz is thinner and lighter at the tips, and new hairs growing out are thicker and darker because they're fresh (thicker by nature and darker by lack of sun), which gives the appearance of a thicker mustache. You know, from the memories I've managed to dredge up from my late teens / early '20s (I'm 27 now), I realize that this does ring true. I've only gone clean shaven a handful of times. I waited months after the first incidence of peach fuzz to shave for the first time, and afterwards the quality of my facial hair did seemingly alter very quickly. I was able to grow a full mustache from the age of 18 or so, and from the point I never shaved it until around 23, when I shaved it again to see what I'd look like. I hardly recognized he face I'd revealed; it brought it home to me how much one's facial bone structure develops in young adulthood. Sometime around the age of 21, I was able to grow a full, non-patchy beard for the first time. Though I was happy to no longer look like a little boy, I quickly allowed stuff to grow back, only to shave it again in 2009 while searching for a job. I grew it back in short order and haven't shaved it away since. I've kept a full beard briefly (which was hardly flattering, as it obscures the jawline); a goatee for some time; and, on three separate occasions, the classic Ambrose Burnside mutton chops. I actually had the latter look going 'til today, when I cut it down to a classic porno 'stache and moderate sideburns, for simpler maintenance. Edit: Hello, Riibu! I'd say just shave through high school and try again later. It took me about five years after graduating to pull off half-decent facial hair, and even now my options are pretty limited. I've sideburns and a goatee simply because no other option would work. (Well, not strictly true, but I'm not going the neckbeard route.) Tangential question: does anyone here use a straight razor? I've never been totally happy with disposable razors, and I picked up a relatively cheap DOVO stainless steel razor recently. It's been pretty mediocre, and not as sharp as I was expecting (though I don't know precisely what to expect). I ordered it to be "professionally honed", though. Just don't know if the issue is me being overly cautious with it, or having a poor technique, or it not being honed enough, or me stropping incorrectly, or what. I did for a little bit in back in my 20's, but it was just a real pain (in more then one way) to do so as I always wound up mutilating my neck, so I eventually gave it up after a year or so. I just use a electric razor now, it's way easier and faster, even if the shave isn't as ridiculously close as you get with a straight razor. Also, what's up with the facial hair everyone has? Well-Actually War Trall Harehunter
I have switched to an electric razor for most mornings, but I still use a Track II when I want to get a really good shave. Understated Ur-Drakon Tyranicus
My face breaks out like crazy if I use an electric razor. I use a fancy 5-bladed razor, because I like how smooth the resulting shave is.

Well-Actually War Trall Doctor Albert Halfmann
Ah yes, Wagner. Hmph, I saw a picture of his just the other day but did not apprehend the neckbeard. I'm an electric razor user as well; I've never even used any other kind. I like using the beard trimmer to cut the stubble down first, then obliterate it with the razor head. I've never been in the habit of shaving every day, so this process is necessary. Unflappable Drayk Ceiling Durkheim
In looking for pictures, it has come to me that there are very few photos of me in which I'm not half-naked, on fire, or wearing some outlandish costume. I'm usually none of these things, but I think there's a certain selection bias among photographers. (Not actual blood.) I'm also pretty bad at growing facial hair. I get lots of stubble, but I can only barely grow a proper beard, and not really a mustache (maybe a bit of a molestache). I had a penance beard once, but I'll spare you. I shave using a mid-range safety razor. On the subject of neckbeards: Emperor Nero. Full stop.
