  1. He does say about how long ago he and Barzhal (sp) were sent to Sucia. However, if you look in the most wonderful timeline that Alorael posted a link to, you can see that some time passed between Geneforge 1 and the cleanup by Zachary and Barzhal. Personally, I like the theory of: Jeff can't always keep things straight. It's a game, not a historical reference.
  2. Here's my view on the subject. The rebels, well, the drakons, have caused the most direct damage. Now, the Shapers haven't exactly been innocent little children this whole time, but in the time frame of geneforges 4 and 5, the ones that take place on Terrestria, I have seen more destruction done by the rebels work. Now, blaming the shapers for the rebellion is like blaming those who initially discovered shaping for giving rise to the Shapers who gave rise to the rebellion. (I see where Trakovites get their ideas, regardless of whether I agree with them or not.) Heck, if it weren't for life in general, there wouldn't be any bloody rebellion! You get my point. Yeah, the Shapers have made some pretty serious mistakes, and I'm not about to deny that, but the rebels (again, mostly the drakons) have caused more the damage that I've seen in these last 2 games. Whether or not the rebels had to or not, and what caused them to do what they did, is a whole separate question. The rebels have caused more directdamage than the Shapers.
  3. That means no. You're too heavily shaped, u just get ill for a bit.
  4. You're supposed to be able to do that. However, killing them can be fun, potentially provide exp and ammo, and make seeing the gate easier.
  5. My only thoughts are about health. I'm not sure about items that steal life, but getting +2 AP will work wonders for getting in a healing spell before attacking, since you have no meatshields to hide behind.
  6. Click to reveal.. First, you have to get the hunting benhold quest from the guard captain in haria-kel (or whatever is just north of mera). Then you have to get the hunting benhold quest from someone in Perkalia (the commander person). Then you have to get the hunting benhold quest from the guard commander of zephyr oasis. Finally, talk to the nomads in the white wastes to get in.
  7. In strategy central, there is a link to a walkthrough. Browsing through there can help find the benhold questline, but beware of spoilers.
  8. I figured that the big spoiler in the front post would be a good enough indicator. Guess I was wrong....
  9. Honestly, I've managed to do pretty much every stealth thing in the game without combat mode. Maybe it makes it easier, but it definitely isn't a must (except maybe the uber-mined room in the zone that's escaping me right now...)
  10. I'm always so concerned about living tools that I hesitate to use them at all unless it's for a quest. Therefore, I always end up with high mechanics and buy unlock asap. I seem to recall having a problem back in gf1 and 2 with having so many living tools that I was constantly encumbered.
  11. The thing I most agree with in the review is the statement that the towns seem un-lived in. It really feels like you're just in the downtown area, and even that is a stretch. A few places extend into a number of zones, but it is very small (almost like the "towns" in Diablo 2). Although, considering the depth of the other aspects of the game, the small production team, the limited financial and time budget, and the massive turnover rate for new games, I juuust might be able to force myself to deal with this.
  12. Awesome list. I always miss quests, even though I do them, so this is a great reference. Thanks!
  13. Being pro shaper, you most likely didn't use canisters, at least not many. In order to get upgraded creations, like corrupted thahds and plated artrilas (artrili?), you need to get three levels into the base creation. Since you can only ever train at a trainer two times, the third level is only possible from a few encounters (you start with 1 in fyora and can get another level from a book) or from canisters.
  14. I like the review. It does seem to make a strong point for an in depth story compensating for poor graphics. Although, the screenshots puzzle me. The last one shows only a few zones have been shown, despite the reviewers obvious knowledge of events later in the game. Also, the second to last image shows the characters inventory while still in the hut type thingy in the very beginning. Somehow, though, there is what seems to be an artrila or glaahk eye in the bottom-rightmost box...
  15. Or find the site, it's been mentioned recently, with all of the endings. You can pretend that that's the one you get.
  16. Maybe it's just a game, and this was the easiest way to get everything to work. Honestly, I like it. Even though you don't get it until the end of the game, it provides a really quick passageway from the northern to the southern map.
  17. I did that, and he or whoever answered my email found my registrations for 4 and 5 and is sending me new codes. I also asked about geneforge 1. I'll look in the library for preferences to see what I can find.
  18. Not a glitch, but my favorite part of the game is in Thistlewood, where the bandits allow you to surrender. And you do.

This happens whenever you attack a major leader, like Alwan or Ghaldring, without a specific quest to do so. 21. In other words, keep the old versions around to make sure the new ones work, but keep them separate? [Edit] Ok, so I downloaded the file for Geneforge 1.2. When I loaded it, it said unregistered. My old copy of the game, V 1.1, works fine and is registered. Is this one of the problems where I have to ask Jeff for a new registration code? (I just emailed him for new codes for 4 and 5 which I downloaded onto my laptop after registering them on my desktop.) My only problem is that I bought the first game as part of a mega-game pack thingy, and the registration is long gone... [Edit 2] I just downloaded Geneforge 2 V 1.1 to upgrade my 1.0.1 and it works fine so far, meaning it says "registered copy." And by the way, I'm working on a mac (with good enough system requirements to run all of the games).
  22. Truly, I think that intelligent, non-hostile creations ought to be left alone. Let a gazer/eyebeast/drayk/drakon accumulate a hoard of lost treasure, but if it attacks anyone, treat it like you would anything else, put it in prison or whatever punishment fits the crime. Serviles are pretty much the same. Let them live their lives. Make new serviles with less intelligence (already being done) to prevent more intelligent ones, and let those who are intelligent go free. It's not like they'll dilute the genepool, seeing as how they most likely cannot mate with other beings. Also, the Shapers really do need to form a more democratic government. Yes, keep Shaping regulated by Shapers, but let a combination of Shapers and laypersons form a democratic government! A few (not so) simple changes can really go a long way.
