  1. When you kill a zombie, do you get the message that "assorted parts are collected for your job" (or something like that)? I've noticed that occasionally when I kill monster 'x' that's needed for a job with an AoE spell that the parts aren't collected. The next time you run across a zombie, try killing it one on one (either a melee bash or a bolt of fire/smite). Also have you looked in your journal to make sure that you actually have that job? You may have cleared it with one of the earlier zombies but you didn't notice the quick flash of the job completion notice. If you do still have the job, your journal should tell you that you either need to collect the parts or that they need to be delivered (if you killed one already). Are you also going to the right person in Pergies to clear the job?
  2. Or perhaps talk to the Heart (? Eye?) over by the front of the castle who wants you to report on your compatriot Hands (can't remember her name, sorry). Talking to Jenell again is probably the required action, but if that doesn't work...
  3. IIRC weight it only calculated on what's worn/equipped. You can fill up your assorted inventory slots with as many suits of armor/big bags of flour as you want & it won't matter as far as weight carrying capacity goes.
  4. Sure it is. It may not taste/function the greatest, but it will provide basic nutrition/services for most of the people most of the time. It's when an unground up pig anus makes it through the machinery into one hot dog/one election that the problems really come to light...
  5. I'm actually reasonably ok with the somewhat chaotic/different regulations in different states system. In a perfect world, one central location/rules would make a lot more sense, make getting results easier, etc. However the last four years have shown what happens when someone's in office who actually wants systems torn down/chaos. With 50 different state level offices/directors, the changes of widespread organized corruption/chaos that will call into question the results is incredibly reduced. Unlike, for example, what seems to be happening at the post office over the past few months where the new Postmaster General's marching orders seemed to be "Go throw a wrench into as many things as possible..." Much like sausage, you generally don't want to see what goes into making it, but the end result is usually ok. **** Anyway, I got sidetracked there. After reading the poll I strolled down to the end to ask - "Other"? Did someone actually vote for Kanye?
  6. 1. More or less answered in the other thread. 2. Eh, simple supply & demand. Jeff/SW (I'm assuming) would rather have you out exploring the continent rather than setting up a side business running up & down the east coast until the ToM blows up... There are plenty of other ways to make money in A3. Head up the coast to Spineridge to get the really high paying jobs. 3. Again, Eh. You aren't supposed to be stealing everything that's not nailed down anyway... (not that it really stops me from doing so where possible). You can still loot most everything by tucking your party into a quiet corner/room, going into fight mode & sending one person out to slip into an unseen space to clean out the desk/chest/etc. Many of the storekeepers/guards wander around so if you stick your party along a wall, out of sight of the outside hallway, eventually (if you're willing to lean on the space bar for a while) the room will be empty & available for some quick looting. Honestly, after a few weeks it's kind of surprising that the city guards/townspeople don't preemptively beat the hell out of any adventurer that wanders into town given prior history with pretty much every other group of adventurers over the years (or notice that all their stuff with any value disappeared when you were the 'only' possible suspect). 4. A matter of balance/reality/immersion. If you would rather 'know' you can go into pretty much any battle with God Level skills/protection, then just leave the game on 'Casual' difficulty. The amount of spells I 'never' use is probably somewhere between 60-70% of the spells available. I probably should cast 'x' occasionally, but when 'y' does essentially the same thing but deals more damage/buffs better ... why? 5. See #4. Ever seen videos of actual gunfights? Most shots ... miss. Expecting to be able to hit your opponent with every bolt of fire on a chaotic battlefield (even though you lose the flavor of chaos by making everything turned based where you can plan out each move) just isn't realistic. A 95% to hit chance is pretty good actually (although I will admit/agree that you do tend to miss a LOT more times that statistics would indicate...). New(ish) game, new strategies, you adapt/figure out what works best & go out & whomp on ever stronger monsters as things go along.
  7. Honestly, I don't think I've ever used Capture Soul in any version of all the games where available - mainly because I forget I have it available until after killing that powerful monster I just ran across. Shrug - never really missed it even on the occasional hard/torment playthrough. I do summon plenty of help though. Early game the lower level Priest summon can't really be beat (doesn't take a lot of damage, deals out a lot of cold damage which most monsters don't have resistance towards, & can't be stunned/dazed). Give a couple of characters the ability to summon the assorted undead helpers & you should be fine (especially if you spend a point or two towards the summon trait as each one raises the level of the summoned monster by two levels - having, say level 10 characters summoning Greater Shades to help out is like bringing a mini-gun to a knife fight). IIRC, Demonslayer is/was strictly an underground weapon. Perhaps after killing/being drenched with all that demon/undead blood over the years it now would deteriorate rapidly if exposed to sunlight...
  8. I also pushed hard to get up to Shayder as soon as possible without getting wiped out. Got there on day 7 & the board was blank. Hung around in the area until the next day & there was one job posted. So I do think it was just a matter of getting to town before they were set up to dispatch jobs.
  9. Who did you email about them? Support@Spiderwebsoftware.com should get you a fairly immediate response. Jeff/SW is busy with the initial beta testing of the revamped Geneforge 1, but he/somebody should be checking their email (maybe not until Monday...)
  10. Hey, I just got promoted to Shadowwalker from Shaman... (we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread)
  11. I don't think I've ever run into that. Check your special items to see if there's anything odd in there/dread curse. Are you hauling around any of the Xian items (like the Talking Skull - which does not give that message ... lots of other annoying ones, but not that...) that might be adversely affecting you? Maybe some sort of cursed item in your inventory? Did you trash the vampire's palace down near Storm Port but 'not' finish him off?
  12. FWIW, I started up a new game, went down to Kristan & there was only one job on the board (checked it out prior to talking to the agent). This was on day 3-4. How fast did you make your way down there? If you got there within the first couple of days there may not have been any posted to the board yet. New jobs tend to get posted every day or so, so if you got there before the cycle started...
  13. They usually are at least a couple there right away (along with the lecture). Mainly 'really' low paying jobs in the general area or up to Shayder iirc. Have you tried leaving the city & reentering? If you're strong enough, head up to Shayder & check out their board. If it's empty then yeah there's a problem.
  14. I thought (or more likely assumed) that they were essentially reverse humans, up on the surface doing some exploring/on a quest for item/knowledge 'x'. It's been a while but weren't they in that particular cave trying to get further into it (to get to the dungeon/loot further in? But them being there also raises the question about just how they got to the surface. I doubt that they were able to sneak an entire exploration party through Ft. Emergence/made it those hundreds of miles north without being noticed. So there's another exit 'somewhere' (the same 'alternate exit' theory also applies to the dragons - & it would have to be a pretty big hole/exit to get them out & up to the surface - perhaps they blasted the exit from A1 east of Sulfras wide open...) The Sliths also had significant territory in A5. Above/deeper sections at the same level as Solberg's territory (if we're assuming that the river flows down/deeper). The Vahnatai were much lower & miles further away (below Muck)
  15. While cleaning out some jun ... er ... precious belongings the other month I ran across the xeroxed instructions/hint books from E2 & 3. Other than that & maybe a shareware disk, I really don't know if there would be anything else available (outside of Jeff's archives). Cool idea but I really don't know if much is out there. (I don't think I threw them out while cleaning up, do you want them - assuming I can once again find the box that they're residing in that is...)
  16. 1. Don't remember, sorry. 2. Not for 'this' series. However Jeff's/SW's new game Queen's Wish does imply that what you did in that game will carry over to future games (when all is said & done you're given a code that you can load in the next game to carry on what you've done so far. 3. Her time on this mortal plane will come to an end somewhere along the way ... but it's spectacular... 4. Never been into regicide so I don't know 5. While I certainly don't like the Empire, I tend to be a bit pragmatic about things when first encountered & tell them what they seem to want to hear (which annoyed me in assorted GFs as if I wanted to be aligned with faction 'x', standing in front of the all powerful being of faction 'y', telling him that I thought his thoughts about life were a pile of steaming BS didn't seem to be conducive to a long life & so I'd 'agree' with him & yet my faction rating went in the wrong direction... ah well.) 6. Amiee does have a very important thing that will help you (if you haven't already done something else (not a huge deal either way)) in one of the future games. Seek her out if you have the opportunity.
  17. Feel free to toss them out here (unless they are things that you potentially don't want to know about ahead of time for the other games). What the hell, we need something to kick around until Geneforge 1M comes out in a couple/few months.
  18. The thing that I hated the most was having to slowly haul my piles of loot from one island to another...
  19. Greta & Alwan were in GF3 (& 4 & 5), so probably no more than 30-40 years between 3-5 if we accept that they both were in their 20s in GF3 & perhaps at most early 60s in GF5 (going with 'normal' human lifespans - perhaps being a Shaper lets you control the aging process somewhat?). Assumption being that with Alwan's body breaking down he won't make it much past GF5 & Greta's getting a little long in the tooth to be out tramping the roads/fighting the Unbound. Now we really can't extrapolate backwards from that, but if Jeff was keeping things more or less on the same time frame then going from GF3 back to GF1 would also be 30-40 years. Sitting here thinking about it & vaguely remembering assorted descriptions about 'x' being the effect of decades of shaping (such as acid sprayers changing the surrounding land into a desert), or 'y' worshiping 'z' as a Shaper deity (no examples spring to mind but serviles in the employee of 'z'), perhaps we do need to explore the idea of Shapers having some control over the aging process (shaping nanobots to clean the plaque out of your arteries?) so as to give a timeline for the GF universe room to have all the assorted background things going on without causing a massive braincramp trying to figure out how everything can be shoehorned into less than a century's timespan.
  20. As you mentioned getting the trilogy, A2CS 'does' have a point of no return in the first act/section (not that it's avoidable as it's the only way to move the game forward, you'll get plenty of obvious warnings before committing though). To be able to easily survive later on, you may want to do most/all of the assorted things to do before taking that one big (again obvious) step. To add to Randomizer's #1 above, just because you go into The Castle & meet the King, you aren't forced to do what he may ask on any timeline other than your own, but do go to Ft Remote before meeting him... And allow me to toss in my 'welcome' as well, it's always good to have fresh mea ... er ... new faces.
  21. Preach it brother/sister... yeah, the first time through that was a big 'oh crap' moment for me too. Congrats on finishing, it really is a good ending to the series
  22. Whew it's been a looong time since I've played Nethergate, but IIRC the Romans were nerfed in their magical abilities/maximum levels. Again, it's been a long time but the Romans were better physically & the Celts with nature/magic. So I can't answer your direct question, but your limits playing a Roman party doesn't surprise me either. Hopefully someone with an actual answer wanders by soon for you. In the meantime though, welcome (although it sounds like you've been around Spiderweb for a long time - if you have any interest, Steam & GOG generally have bundles of Jeff's other games on sale every now & then if you want to go back spelunking in Avernum). Somewhere over near the front door is a box to drop off your sanity in. Stick around long enough & you won't miss it...
  23. I'm going to personally duck your specific questions... (as there are a couple of people around here who 'really' get into the #s & will probably be along relatively shortly) Did you look in the Strategy Centrals (stickied at the top of the forum)? There are generally discussions on if 'this' skill is better than 'that' one which tend to dig into the #s you are looking for (you may also want to look in the Strategy Centrals for Avernum & Geneforge forums as Jeff/Spiderweb tends to do those sort of calculations across all the games. The typical greeting for a new member is "Welcome to the forums (which I will certainly convey to you), please leave your sanity at the door (this part I have a problem with as anyone who wants to dig that deeply into the #s is probably lacking in the sanity department & has none to drop off... 😛 )". Anyway, welcome. I hope that you're able to dig out/get pointed in the right direction for the info you're seeking.
  24. Think Chernobyl & look through all the assorted stuff you're hauling around... /and the traditional 'welcome, hope that you stick around & join in the madness. Please leave your sanity at the door...'
  25. I watched the first hour or so until the stream hung up & wouldn't reload for me (granted I didn't try too too hard as the hockey game was starting up...). One thing I really don't like (that Jeff acknowledged was a horrible waste of people's time) was the continual reading of what was on the screen. Just give a quick recap of what that big block of text said/what it means to the game & get back to the stories about SW in general. He did say that he was going to try to get the stream up on YT eventually for those that missed it.
