  3. That happened in one of my fights with Adze-Haakai, as well. Poor summoned ogre struck dead.
  4. And you could have spoken with Scab after any of the battles in the arena, as he's the one customer who never leaves.
  5. You get access to that switch after you eliminate the sewer slimes and take the next sewer quest from the job board.
  6. Have you gotten into the boat and sailed to either of the other passages that you can disembark at?

  8. Specifically talking about healing, at level 3 you get a chance that the healed character will also get a regeneration effect for several turns, which means that the heal keeps on healing. For summons, the creatures get bonus effects when summoned based on the level you have in the spell, and it raises the creature's level. Not every spell needs to be maximized, of course, especially ones that you don't use much.
  9. I know that Jeff likes to put some things in his games that can't be reached. In AEftP, what things have people found that are unreachable? The only thing I can think of right now is the pile of gold on the ledge at the west end of the Foul Cavern.
  10. It is an optional battle. You can complete the game without choosing to fight Redbeard.
  11. To follow up, did I mention that you're right and I'm an idiot? ;-)

  13. Hmmm. I went to the desk. I didn't think I got anything from it. I'll check that again in a little while. Busy killing giants right now.
  14. I've noticed something odd since updating to 1.01. I can no longer get through the side door to Erika's tower. I talk to her about it and she says she gives me a key, but the door will not open and keeps saying that I'll never be able to figure it out. It's only a minor annoyance, as I can still walk around the other way, but it means opening two more doors.

I never went back and spoke with him before to see if/when he would teach me but just checked and you have to kill Sss-Thsss, you're correct. Not that what he teaches is hugely important.

  18. Cairo Jim, the one part of your statement that is correct is that raising Dex makes it harder for the monsters to hit you.
  19. If you don't give the Wayfarer's papers to Harisa, nothing happens to Ryozo.
  20. Yes, I first learned programming on TRS-80 Model Is and Model IIIs. That was back in the days when Radio Shack (for those who don't know, the RS in TRS stood for Radio Shack) sold electronic supplies for building things like radios. They did also have 5 1/4" floppy drives for the TRS-80s. In a closet here I also have an old AB Dick word processor that used the 8 1/2" floppies. The main processing unit case is large enough that Steve Jobs could have been buried in it with a lot of iPods.

My party in EFTP works out - on the whole - pretty samish to every other Avernum I've played. Doesn't make the game unplayable for me tho'. They only turn out samish if you continue to use just the default four characters. You can change things around and try all sorts of things, including 1, 2, 3, or 4 custom designed characters.

I agree that his complaint sounds a bit like saying you can't drive a car because it has an optional heated driver's seat. That said, I think it would be more logical if there were two lines of battle disciplines, one enabled based on your ranged combat level and one by you melee combat level.
  23. Back to the question posed in the topic, I'm having an interesting time trying a part of all fighters. No magic users. I have one archer, a pole fighter, and two swordsmen. The shift in which fights are easier and which are harder is interesting.
  24. The first time you come to that, you should have gotten a message about finding plans in it. You then need to go talk to Commander Rosie about them.
