  1. The base characters aren't bad, except perhaps the Soldier, as it wastes a skill point by having both sword and pole weapons skills.
  2. Really depends on the items you're looking at selling and how desperate you are. The difference between 5 coins and 7 coins isn't much, but the difference between 500 coins and 700 coins can mean a lot.
  3. You can improve the price you sell things for by giving characters the Negotiation trait. It's a 10% bonus to sale price PER character with the trait. That's the only way in which the price improves, though.
  4. The specific game engine has been modified and changed markedly since the first version of the game, Exile, came out. What we're talking about here is a minor quirk that has little to no effect on the actual playability of the game.
  5. Not positive, but I don't believe that specter drops anything worth worrying about. Just one more annoying obstacle on your way out of the Spiral Pit.
  6. It is possible to defeat Redbeard, though it may not be possible for you depending on your character selection and choices you made surrounding your companions. There is a planned sequel (at least one, apparently). I'm reasonably certain you will not start with the same character you finished the first game with, however. You will start again at level 1 with a new character in a new situation.

Kill the gypsy at your own risk.
  8. You might want to give bows to your casters. Even with no skill points, they can be fairly useful early in the game when you need to conserve spell points and only need to do a little damage to finish something off.
  9. Yes, you can only play a human in EftP. In the story at this point, the races live pretty solidly separately (with a few exceptions).
  10. It depends what difficulty you're playing on. I've enjoyed games with an archer all the way through, but I only play on Normal. The damage an archer can do does not increase at end game as significantly as a dual-weilding melee character or a spell caster. However, with a little care in what equipment and skills you pick, your archer can easily get 4 or 5 actions per round late game.
  11. Strategy Central has links to lists of all the quests and locations. And despite the apparent possibility, all of the people blow you off when you try to get them to join. It is fun sometimes to see how they blow you off.
  12. When you enter a friendly fort or town you are assumed to rest and recuperate (regaining all of your mana and health). And there are a few helpful watering holes around the game that will refresh you. There is, as far as I know, no way to "camp" in the wilds and rest.
  13. Jeff probably puts it up and makes sure the download populates through the various mirrors and other services before putting up the official links. Minimizes his problems with people complaining that a particular link isn't working.
  14. It's not unlikely that the music is from a commercial music source and not composed specifically for either Spiderweb or the Malevolence folks. Not plagiarism. Looks like it could be a cool game, though.
  15. You don't have to kill Harua. You can let him go. You don't even have to do that quest at all. The choice does have consequences, though, for the endgame. For others, yes, it is a forced-fight condition and that's annoying.
  16. Because through talking to them you learn things.

  18. Avernum: Escape from the Meme you accidentally created with an off-hand quip. ;-)

  20. Makes it a bit more tedious, probably, as you run around gathering the supplies to make lots of Wisdom Crystals. On Normal difficulty, a party of level 30 characters easily overpowers much of the end game, which I think it the level Jeff was going for. I think Randomizer said he got his Torment Singleton to the mid 50s to handle everything.

Here's a laugh. Go to Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl ) and click on Quest in the upper right.

The other character wears armor with a total -15% penalty and also wears a +12% items total bonus. In spite of the -12% and -3% the second character miss more often than the first one. What other factors/stats influence the chance to hit that could explain this thing? Levels with weapon and associated skills. Strength (if using melee weapon) or Dexterity (if using ranged weapon) or Intelligence (if using spells). Luck.
