  1. Well, it is not nearly as simple as that. It would require some serious game-balancing changes if that were to take effect. Creations would have to cost a lot more, but then again, it would be difficult because all of the hostile creations would be much more dangerous too. Basically, it would involve a mini-rewrite of all the stats of everything, or else those feeble worms would kill you in the first area. It is not very practical to just boost the power of everything; it would severely damage gameplay. Sadly, as I would like it too, I doubt it will happen. You see, the idea is to just start off with creations ASAP so that you can keep them and make them strong until you can make a new, better creature. You may find that creations are actually more fierce than you think--if you keep them around for a while. That's all it takes. You just need to think about it.

But it would definitely raise the stakes of the game if we also saw shaping doing some unambiguous good — and not just in undoing damage done by shaping. Some idyllic place that had been howling desert before the landscape was shaped. Some gravely injured or handicapped people, perhaps so from birth, restored to health by shaping. Maybe even some intelligent creations that are neither slaves nor monsters. Something that makes shaping more than just a bad genie that should obviously be put back in the bottle if only that were possible. That's a very good point. It has always felt kind of evil whenever I play through joining the Shapers. I always end up joining the Rebels/Takers/Awakened first because it's a bit hard to get over the fact that Shapers are so impliedly evil. However, it may be partly true. What if all the Shapers really are corrupt? What if the real government of the Shapers is fully consumed in self-interest? Perhaps there should be a new sect, Shapers, but fighting for the goodwill of everyone. If you know what I mean. It would just sort of give a more realistic feeling to the game. Or even just small collectives of runaway Shapers who run a Shaping healing business, or something like that.

  4. And be prepared with lots of types of attacks. Unless you're a cheater of course... The Titan is a challenging, fun, and rewarding battle. Good luck.

  6. I actually don't know if you can even do both quests (as in from Hagfen and the Selkies). And I hate to say it, but that is very dishonourable! However, it's up to you, and as Romans, it doesn't seem as bad to kill magical creatures. With my Roman singleton, I kind of threw the morals in the trash. It's easier to ultra-powergame when you kill all you can, but it's very sad.
  7. Interesting. Do you mean Mac Automator scripts? And is it for the PC Editor or the scenario editor?
  8. Please do not discuss karma. It is against the Code of Community.
  9. You have to get the Lamp Key from "beating" Titus in the Circle Warrens, which is near Hagfen.
  10. It could also help to redownload from Spiderweb.

  12. You should also check out the Geneforge series. GF1 is excellent, and so is GF2. GF3 is not as good, but GF4 is a great, more modern game. Nethergate/N:R is also really good. BoE(Blades of Exile) has hundreds, maybe thousands of player-created scenarios to try. BoA doesn't have as many, but has lots of cool features and such. You should at least try all the games.
  13. Quote: Originally written by The Ratt: Actually, I think exec files might be graphic files. After all that's what the graphics for the game are stored as, and nothing shows up when i open it up in a text editor. .exec is a Windows extension for executable archive. It is similar to .app for mac.
  14. You're building your own computer!? Sounds very ambitious.

You Geneforge/A4 vets are spoiled. Back in the day of the Trilogy, back when it was a proper trilogy, we had one attack frame and we liked it. Exactly! But, change can be good. These games are evolving. And you can always replay the good oldies.
  17. Queer. Is this a Windows only bug? For I think I have encountered it on my Mac as well. And why does the .sav extension go away? Oh, and welcome to Spiderweb. Please leave your sanity at the door.
  18. You are most likely highly encumbered. Check the "Carrying x out of y lbs." on the inventory screen. If x ≥ y, you are encumbered and require to either rid yourself of junk or buy more defense skill.
  19. Beta calls will appear on the news page when A5 is close to finished. You have a better chance of being accepted if you gave some prior experience. I as well wish to test. The only experience I've had was beta testing a scenario by Enraged Slith and I've had some programming experience. I wonder if I'll get accepted this time... Edit: Ugh! You beat me orange!
  20. I've never heard of Basilisk or OS 9 emulators. Elaborate.
  21. Well, who is the member commonly known as Ed?

Good idea, but I don't think it could happen easily. Plus, you would need a surround sound system for your computer, wouldn't you? I don't think music is best suited to Spiderweb games. As long as there are nice, realistic background sounds. If you were really desperate, you could always make a funky series of GarageBand BGMs... Anyway, I can see why some would like it or dislike it. And there's always the matter of if the music is good in our opinion...after all, it's up to Jeff what the music is if he decides there to be music at all.
  23. I'm always a bit surprised at harsh criticism (heck, any criticism involving graphics) towards Spiderweb's games. Personally, I just don't understand what the deal is with the graphics! They add a nice touch to the games and give it a nice, retro-y feel. The current graphics (A4 and GF4) are excellent, wonderful, and pretty in my opinion. Perhaps I just haven't experienced "Hard Core RPG's" but I'm guessing they don't have moral dilemmas, a deep and involved story, or any of the other things that make me love games created by Spiderweb Software. Or perhaps I'm just the harsh critic! Originally written by Iffy: Quote: I find it interesting how the Japanese (in many games) give the characters revealing clothing. Especially the females. Ugh! I've noticed!
  24. Until now, I did not think it possible to make soooo many "typos" and be so stupid! That post is hilarious!!! (not Lifecrafter's!) *Dies*
