  1. Yeah, if you need me, I'm here! Fractal Mac OS 10.4.11 I've tested Night at the Sol Tavern Inn, which was never released. I think I've tested something else, but I can't remember. thefractalman (at) gmail (dot) com
  2. So, I'm working on my first scenario I plan on releasing, and I've run into a slight problem. I know there's an obvious answer, I just don't know how to do it. Here's what I need to do: I've made a dialog box with two options. However, I don't know how to activate code when a certain option is chosen. I know that run_dialog() records it, I just don't know how to retrieve it. I already looked in the appedices, but I failed to find the answer. Maybe I just missed it? I'm clearly no script genius, and any help is appreciated.
  3. At the end of A2, my Mage could do around 300 damage with an average spell. My fighter could only deal a mere 102 or so per hit.
  4. This topic doesn't make sense. Too many lols!
  5. By Classic, I meant the Mac OS 9 Emulator found on older versions of Mac OS X. Wait a second...do you have an Intel Mac? I don't think the Trilogy can run on the newer Macs.
  6. You're not running Classic, are you? That sounds more like an error from older Macs. P.S. I realize that Classic no longer comes with Macs and that Apple has abandoned it.
  7. I usually make two Mage/Priests in A3. I've found it very profitable. However, I'm about to try my first two-person party. I have a couple of questions before I begin. In a two-person party, is it worth investing in bows? What exactly (statwise) do the disadvantages do, and how bad are they? Should I invest some magic skills in the fighter? I'm thinking about using a Slith and a Nephil. Is that ok? (don't worry, I can take a throwdown if that's bad) I've never done this before, so any advice is much appreciated.
  8. Even at 12 Bows and 8 Dexterity with a Blessed Bow and Steel Arrows? Perhaps my skill points were not well spent. (This is an A2 party.)
  9. Yes, I've noticed this kind of thing too. I usually make a balanced party of a Slith Fighter, a Nephil Archer/Fighter, a Human Mage and a Human Priest. However, the Nephil usually ends up not carrying their weight. I know Archery isn't the best, but isn't it a little odd to be doing only 20-45 Missile Damage at level 30? Their Melee seems to be impaired as well. This is something I've mainly noticed in the old Avernum Engine, since I don't play 4 and 5 as much. This doesn't seem to be a problem with stats or weight or weapons.
  10. Not to stray off topic, but in Geneforge, I always steal everything. It's usually much more profitable than in Avernum. Plus, I use up my supplies way faster in Geneforge. On an average Avernum game, I don't steal unless I have to. Which is rare. In fact, sometimes, just to please my strange mind and OCD, I put valuables in peoples houses, or food in animal pens. Strange, I know, but I enjoy giving.
  11. Well, I'm no Windows expert, but there have been problems running certain games. I think there's something called compatibility mode that helps. I've never heard of this kind of error before. And what's the deal with the hex weirdness? The only thing I can think of is running it under compatibility mode. I think Avernum uses Thousands of Colors mode, but I don't know for sure. Or if that exists on Widows. Sorry if I'm not much help!
  12. You don't have to steal at all. However, especially on Torment, I enjoy shamelessly ripping from my allies. There are some nice things to steal. There was a discussion on the meta-morals of Avernum a while back. It is an interesting topic. To be honest, I find myself...a little vacant in the meta-moral department. If I'm struggling to survive, or I need supplies, or I want treasure, I greedily rob everyone. Sigh. But seriously, if you don't care about stealing, it can be really helpful. I usually try not to steal, because...well, it just doesn't feel quite right. But on Torment, if I'm low on cash or supplies, I will rob. You better lock your doors. Tight.
  13. I'd love test it. That is, if you need me. Name: Fractal OS: Mac OS 10.4.11 E-mail: thefractalman (at) gmail (dot) com Experience: Night at the Sol Tavern Inn, (currently untitled), can't remember the others.
  14. Hm, that's interesting. Thanks for the tip, Diki. I was wondering why my avatar kept disappearing. I was using one of my online Picasa pictures. I think I might have been stealing bandwidth by linking to it. Woops. Sorry, Google.
  15. Indeed. Funny, I have the same problem with the purple cloaks, and I hate the brown pants. They look like old man pants. Very unappealing. In A3, I collected every potted plant in the game that I could and decorated Hawke's Manse.
  16. I just completed a similar game. I used a Loyalist Warrior with canisters and shaping on Torment. I'm not even sure how I managed to balance everything, as I ended up having lots of combat skills, general skills (endurance, strength, etc.), mechanics, leadership, Magic Shaping, and Healing Craft. I found Healing to be quite useful with enough time put into it. Augmentation has saved me countless times, strangely enough. I didn't make any creations until I could make Wingbolts. I made one, and added another when I had enough essence. Sine I had been balancing all my skills, I didn't have enough essence for anything else. I would definitely increase your Endurance, but it may not be as necessary with all your creations. While it is troublesome, it can be invaluable to have spores, rods, and pods. Without them, I surely would have died. I'm assuming that you're already collecting these, but if you're not, you might want to look into it. I used crystals and wands as well. Even though wands are annoying, the higher-level ones are very useful. While impractical, some of the crafted artifacts are worth working for. You might want to start leaning towards increasing your Mechanics, because I found it much worth it. This is all the advice I can think of right now, so enjoy!
  17. By aliens, he probably means the Vahnatai. If I remember correctly, several characters in Avernum refer to them as aliens.
  18. Actually, I was wondering about ticks in general. Outside of BoA. For example, what is a tick in Geneforge? Do all programs define ticks differently? In Revolution (a slightly high-level programming language), a tick is 1/60 sec. In Ares, a dying but great game, a tick is 1/20 sec. In BoA (obviously) a tick is a turn. But does a tick have one master definition, or is that up to the programmer?
  19. Quick question about ticks: How is a tick (in general) defined? For example, in some programming languages, a tick is a unit of time equal to 1/60 sec. Others define it as a 1/20 sec, or a turn (like BoA). So, what is a tick?
  20. Just keep in mind that reinstalling can cure many bugs.
  21. I'm not so sure that they will. The GIFTS are a joke, you know. So far, the largest plot role they got was in Nethergate. On the subject of the topic, I don't know what to expect. Jeff could go all out and make a crazy-huge game, but that seems doubtful.
  22. Reading The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene and then his other book The Fabric of the Cosmos.
  23. Well, I'm not sure about on the web, but you could always buy the hintbooks! Hey look, post 200!
