  1. Actually, I remember reading something once (hah! the most trustworthy of sources!) that basically said that Valve would 'attempt to make sure users get access to their games', regardless of what happens to Steam as a platform, and Valve as a company. It's nice that they've at least thought about that eventuality. And, in the meantime, I'm happy to use Steam as the sole keeper of my games because it's easier than managing it myself.

    Sadness

There was a sale on Steam/in the App store during October, so I think you've missed it. Each series of game sold in those stores got a big discount for a week at a time. So one week Avenum was cheap, and the next Geneforge and so on. It was in the newsletter, but I don't recall seeing it advertised anywhere else. Sorry, GG.
  3. So. You've downloaded the demo of Geneforge 1 from Spiderweb's site? Awesome. You like it enough to want to buy it? Great. Spiderweb only sells the Geneforge games in a bundle - the Geneforge Saga bundle. That means if you buy from them, you're going to get all five games for $30. Sweet as. They'll be full, registered versions, and you'll most probably get a download link for the whole collection. I guess it's possible you might get a set of registration keys for the games. Either way, you're getting all five games of gooey Geneforge goodness from that one purchase. Same thing with Steam. In other words, my first post was correct, and I guess Randomizer wasn't aware that SW only sells older games in packages now.
  4. They should all come registered, regardless of where you purchased them.

    Artemis

Erm, that video is a recording of a group of Spiderwebbers playing the computer game Artemis. If you watch, you can see it's a spaceship bridge simulator. The different voices with 'confusing' tones are people who visit here - I heard Sylae and Dintiradan and Lilith, and I think Nalyd and Sarachim.will probably be there.
  6. The FIRST trainer is in the northeast corner of Silvar. There are plenty of other trainers too, so don't mistakenly think you have to keep travelling back to Silvar to train!
  7. I had some trouble with Slith raiders when I played A:EftP. If you can avoid those, buy from Dranlon, as Jerakeen says.

    ISIS

Well, allow me to reassure that it does, in fact, exist. Also allow me to point out that derailing a thread to point out that you have nothing to contribute is spammy. Please don't be spammy. Thanks.
  9. To answer your question more directly, try speaking to Carol in Fort Duvno for some priest spells She's in the NE corner if I recall correctly. For mage spells, you'll need to head up to Formello. You'll have to go there fairly early anyway, to do the quest for the Mayor, so speak to Mother Claudette for any more priest spells you're missing, and hit up Miles (in the library to the south of Claudette) for your mage spells. I'd recommend buying from Carol before Claudette because Carol is cheaper, but it's not that big a loss if you just do everything in Formello. (I found the information here, which is linked from the Strategy Central thread: http://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/index.php?/topic/16401-trainers-avernum-escape-from-the-pit-spoilers/)
  10. I had some trouble with this in Discord (though I was doing something slightly different). Make sure there's enough space around the town entry point for a party of 4/6(?) characters. I guess it could also be something to do with the way BoA decides which direction you enter town from from the outdoors? Might be worth looking at Chapter 1.7 of your docs.
  11. Which one is the quickfire one? I think I usually have to do one, and I always chose that one. Send a mage in, haste her, and leg it.
  12. (Sent a PM) (I only mention this because not everybody gets email notifications, and also because it's important to show outsiders that BoA isn't dead. )
  13. How will you grab somebody elses? All deposited sanity is devoured by the fluffy turtles.
  14. I know I already told you, Excalibur, but I'll stick it here too in case other people miss it. After getting your lever to do what it wants, you need to use the call end(); to kill the script. Otherwise, once you've set the sdf, the script will just continue and undo all the changes it just made.
  15. In the last couple of weeks I've been busy keeping myself myself so I've not read too much. I did finally read Catcher in the Rye, though, and thought it neat, if over-rated. I also read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, which quickly became one of my favourites. I've loved Blade Runner for years now, but DADoES is superior in almost every way. I plan on writing an actual review at some point, so I won't wax lyrical about it here. Finally, I'm about two-thirds of the way through The Martian Chronicles. I've never read any Bradbury before, and I'm not as sold on SF as other people here are, but by god... The early Martian segments were beautiful, and whilst I've become less interested in the 'plot' ('Usher II' aside <3) as the novel has progressed, I've found myself fawning over Bradbury's prose increasingly often. The homages to Wells, the attacks on realism, the language of loneliness. This is an excellent book, and whilst I am loathe to recommend something I haven't finished, you should read this if you haven't. Bradbury's style of writing alone make it a perfect addition to your mental library.
  16. Maybe Avernites just don't like crystals? There's a perfect crystal formation with purported magical powers near Cotra in every Avernum game that takes place in the main caves. I've sure several NPCs comment on it, and your party definitely travels to it, and yet it's never studied or claimed or anything of the sort.
  17. He did, however pointless it was (since the question had already been properly answered). No need to add to the pointlessness with your own pointless post.
  18. I did exactly the same thing. I think I was able to choose pretty well for every other question, but this one was more tricky. Anyway: Healthcare: Yes Education: Yes Internet: No Reproduce: Yes Torture: Prohibited Euthanasia: Yes (any circumstances) Death Penalty: Never Abortion: On request Human Rights: Birth Nukes: No.
  19. Hey, so I was being nostalgic and looking at the PPP earlier, and I was also being stupid and using Facebook earlier at the same time *gasp*, and I noticed two things. First, that it was Archmage Alex's birthday, and second, that Archmage Alex made some awesome cartoons, some of which still pop in milestone threads.. So, on the off-chance that he still lurks around here from time to time (since he clearly does not reply to FB messages) have this, Brody:
  20. A pretty light summer for me. In chronological order, I've read: Helen Edmundson - The Heresy of Love Vladimir Nabokov - Lolita Edgar Allen Poe - 'The Purloined Letter' John Buchan - The Thirty-Nine Steps Ernest Hemingway - The Old Man and the Sea George Orwell - Down and Out in Paris and London Charlotte Perkins Gilman - 'The Yellow Wallpaper' Simon Armitage - Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Tom Holt - Expecting Someone Taller John Williams - Stoner John Steinbeck - Of Mice and Men Of those, five were re-reads though, so my number is alarmingly low.
  21. I'm working my way through Parks and Recreation because somebody mentioned I reminded them of April. It was accurate. It's an alright show, and it beats doing dumb things like reading or eating or playing computer games. I'm also watching Batman: The Animated Series, which is the greatest cartoon of all time. edit: except maybe A:TLA and Cardcaptor Sakura
  22. 1. What is your age? (Be approximate, if you'd like) I'm 26 and change. 2. What part of the world do you live in? In which part of the world were you born? What countries have you lived in? I live roughly in the middle of England. I've only ever lived roughly in the middle of England. 3. What is your native language? In what languages are you proficient? I speak English, and can swear in about half a dozen other languages. I don't do that often enough to say I'm proficient at it. 4. Describe your ancestry. English and Welsh. 5. Describe your gender identity and sexual orientation. I think the problems started when I got lumped with the name 'Nikki'. 6. Do you have any religious or spiritual beliefs? If so, describe them. In what religious tradition(s) were you raised, if any? We weren't raised to be religious, and I continue to be atheistic. This was more due to laziness/apathy on my parents part, rather than with atheist stances - I actually think my mother is Christian. 7. What is your relationship status? Do you have any children? Single-ish. No kids. 8. Describe your social class. Have you always been in this class? Working class. I think probably we used to be below that but I don't know. "Poor (relatively)" seems a fair way to describe it. 9. Have you ever served in the military? If so, what division? Nope. 10. What is your occupation (or former occupation)? What is your highest level of education (and your degree, if applicable)? Currently, I continue to waste my time, and my mind, in retail. This spring, I achieved a BA in English. Hopefully, with that degree, I'll be able to persuade somebody I can write, and that they should pay me to do so.
  23. As Ernie has implied, this topic was way dead a few days ago. Can we all just let it return to its (hopefully) eternal slumber? If anybody wants to start a new discussion about gender/identity, then, of course, feel free to. Just let this old-timer pass on. Cheers!
  24. I don't think I ever used a recall crystal in ANY of my many games (both Nethergate and Avernum). They might be cool, but they're really not an essential item by any means.
