  1. Well, that just made the Alorael canon a little more flavourful.
  2. I split all of my unshackle mind crystals (and scrolls of sanctification) around my party, so that everybody had a shot at uncharming. Fortunately only my first PC ever got charmed, and her attacks never connected - she always targeted PC2, who was a missile user with a ton of dex.
  3. Hmm. I just installed and ran all three of the second trilogy games. A4 and A5 automatically started with the right resolution. Whilst I was able to go into the settings and make A4 ask me at startup whether I wanted to change resolution or not, A5 always went full-screen. Both ran fine though. With A6, I got the option of picking resolution on startup, and again, it worked fine, I dug around in the Tech Support forum and found this thread: http://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/index.php?/topic/17714-steam-avernum-5-cant-change-resolution/ Seems to answer your question, though it's not ideal.
  4. i was just going to say that i'm paler and older than in my previous adominable photo and leave it at that, but that was an age ago. so here are two recent pictures sometimes i wear glasses (this is about four months old which is when i got my glasses): sometimes i don't wear glasses (this was taken about half an hour ago):
  5. It isn't - I went about the fortress backwards because I wasn't strong enough for a frontal assault and ended up getting the letters long before I fought Gaddika/read the other book.
  6. Oh. So *i isn't Jeff. Jeff posts under the Spidweb account (it has a picture of a dragon as its avatar). *i is one of our administrators. As for that thread, yeah I'll take a look at moving it to the right forum. Cheers for the heads up.
  7. So, I'm pretty certain that Tool Use has no impact at all on Unlock strength in the original trilogy. In fact, as far as I recall, that thing only existed in A4, right? After that total party TU started being a thing. I think the habit of sticking TU on to your mage/priest was just because they had more skill points free. Edit: Yup. Found this: http://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/index.php?/topic/19642-will-this-party-work-in-avernum/#entry262036. I think I'm more inclined to trust Randomizer on this one. If you're having trouble figuring other things out, BoA is pretty well-documented at this point, and it shares a whole ton of things with A1-3.
  8. It's been a while since we've had a desktop thread. So, take a photo and show off your desktops/wallpapers/collection of icons scattered across the ether. Bonus points for pictures of the tops of your desks, too. (Also, to avoid stretching the board, please post your images as links or in spoiler tags. Thanks!) I'll start: - This is the corner of my room where my computer lives. - This is a closer view of my desk. It's not usually this tidy. - This is my wallpaper and icon layout.
  9. 1. Is there code for checking to see whether there are humans in a party? Presumably so - that guy in Gnass won't train you unless you are of his people. He uses this code to determine if you're a slith = "condition = slith_present() == 0;" Browsing through the Olgai script, I can see that "nephil_present()" is also a call you can make. Yay. That means you want both those to be 0 to check for human-only parties. ...It just struck me that you might mean 3 sliths and only one human, say. I don't think there's a human_present() call, or at least I couldn't see one in any obvious scripts. 2. If anyone can figure out the code to make a poor leather helmet no longer a requirement for entering the starting tunnel in Fort Ganrick, that would be great. I'm thinking it must be this line of code. Might want to remove the "party_has_item_equip" and give it a whirl. 3. Is there any way to make the door in the Barrier (Pyrn's) Tower openable through tool use or a key? If doors work the same way as they did in BoA, no.
  10. So I should've closed this thread with my last post, rather than letting it struggle on a little while longer. There really isn't any potential here for a worthwhile discussion, and whilst not all spam is inherently bad, this is unimaginative, humorless spam. Because of that, and because this is essentially just a postcount-inflating thread, I'm going to close it now. I guess that means we all lose the game.
  11. I found Mahdavi problematic: usually, asking her about EVERYTHING (i.e., going through all her conversation options) cleared quests for me.
  12. I remember when posting games were banned, and anybody caught posting in them was publicly flogged. O Spiderweb, whatever happened to you?
  13. nikki.

    Vahnatai?

Most likely, it'd be about humans first settling the caves and surviving the onslaught of demons. That, or the First Expedition.
  14. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I remember something about the 3D editor being unable to port anything without breaking. The original 2D editor should run under Windows without messing around with any compatibility stuff, though running it under Windows XP probably won't hurt it.
  15. Yeah, the new chitrach graphics are awful!
  16. On the other hand, I have seen a few instances where what's being described is not at all what I'm seeing. One example is in Tor's homestead. We are told that we meet a 'radiant, red-headed woman [...with] translucent white skin', and yet what we see is a tanned brunette. I'm sure there'll be more - I'm barely level 3, and still in the starting caves.
  17. I've downloaded it. I'll probably have time to look on Sunday, but if not, I'll play it on Monday.
  18. There are dozens of you! Dozens! I could meet at least three more members with relative ease. Maybe I should save up and attempt to do that.
  19. Avadon 2 is also currently part of the Humble Bundle, so you can pick it up for literally any price you want. Definitely works out cheaper than Steam, plus you get extra games with it, PLUS no DRM.
  20. Uh. yes there are. Every single Geneforge game autosaves as you leave a zone. Avernum 4-6 (and possibly Avadon and Avernum: Escape from the Pit) also have autosaves, though I believe those are triggered by time rather than events. I mean, sure, Nethergate doesn't have an autosave, but saying that no Spiderweb games does is completely false.
  21. I didn't know I'd miss hearing Zizek's voice as much as I did. What a guy. I can only speak hypothetically here, but I'd much rather be allowed to die with nothing than have my miserable existence prolonged by the scraps of charity that are only being offered to me because somebody wanted to feel better about themselves for a while.
  22. Any coffee that causes 'permanent disfigurement' and leads to somebody being 'partially disabled for up to two years' is clearly FAR too hot. The entire cup of coffee ended up on her lap - not a little bit, and she was aware that it was hot. She was simply attempting to remove the lid of the cup to add milk and sugar. During the case, McDonalds admitted that hundreds more people had been burned in similar ways due to the temperature they served their coffee, and that they served their coffee around 40 degrees hotter than other places. ...and, as I was typing this, Slarty sniped me. Read the Wikipedia article. And curses for being too slow.
  23. Hey, so there's another Steam Sale, and Spiderweb games are, once again, on sale for next to nothing. All of the games are on sale at 75% to 80% off, or you could get the entire lot for just £5,99 (or the equivalent in whatever pretend money you other people use).
