  1. Does the MS works with the new GF1-M? I don't mean seamlessly, I mean mostly, whether the hex files are similar to those of GF4-5? The speed of the remake, with 1-2 zones per day, makes me think that the hex files are probably similar and the developers simply tweaked and added things. It would be next to impossible to remake a whole zone in a day. Let alone make it, test it, tweak it, test it again. The scrips I've seen are similar to what we've seen in the past (although I don't know how GF1 scrips were, I have experience with GF3-5 scripts).
  2. Man the game is scary... For starters the "Canisters are the main way to gain abilities" sounds a bit ominous... I mean, I value the choice and all, but I would prefer to keep my sanity. Anyway, gamewise: A door thingy that should be dead (it's 100-200 years apparently) gave me a warning and then there was a shade right behind the door running away. Further on, what appears to be a lot of bones and a rogue roamer. And then when you discover an inn: "What drove all the Shapers off? What took their place?" Impressive (+ a Shaper corpse in the next area). Similar to the Player character, I didn't expect that Sucia was once as settled as it appears to be. Perhaps it's just the docks, but it seems this was a decent sized town, bigger than the one in Greenwood island for example. And even the presence of the Geneforge (that I know it's in Sucia) does not explain what drove the Shapers away. The rogues could not have been that bad. We're told in later games that the Shapers cleared this island pretty effectively afterwards. And that's after over a century of rogue control of Sucia. Perhaps it's that I haven't played GF games for a long while, but this demo gives me a case of wonder and excitement that I have not felt since GF4 (the first GF game I played). It feels ... fresh.
  3. I just finished the intro text of the Demo. The pretentiousness of the Shapers was as irking as usual. Too bad there are no real rebels yet. Well, I plan to be one (it was harder to be a rebel in GF3, in all the other games it seemed the right choice for me). Question: Modified drayk? The boat creations are modified barred creations? That can shoot fire that takes down a ship (even if it was a lucky hit)? Good thing the Shapers exhibit that legendary wisdom and restrain we know and love. What could ever go wrong with that? If we breed them for loyalty, they will all be forever loyal, right? Like say... the serviles. Or the drayks that didn't end up as boats. Do we know how sapient and intelligent the boat-drayks are? From the other games where we see creation-boats (I think GF4) they ... didn't strike my fancy so I didn't check for clues of sentience or absence of it. Unlike my heroic boat in this game. I already lost the best creation in the game before the game started. I will find those people (I think they're the Sholai of GF5) and make them pay. Well, after I figure WHY they shot at us at first. If it was "Dude, we saw a boat-sized dragon on the water! We didn't stop to think it may be carrying someone! We are not used to your magics" then I will be more considerate as I kill them. Anyway, think about it: It's the boat. The catalyst for the Great Rebellion that freed the serviles is that heroic drayk-boat. If my poor drayk had not went above and beyond to save my Shaper, Lying Zachary the Deceiver and his apprentice would not learn about Sucia, Drakons would never be made, Litalia would never switch sides (well, bold words, she probably would but she's one Shaper), the Ashen Islands would never be free and the tyranny of the Shapers would remain unchallenged. It's the boat. The greatest hero in recent (and 20+years in the future) history of this world, is an unnamed Drayk-boat that will probably never be remembered. I finished the other 4 games and nobody mentions the heroic boat. Rest in peace, Heroic, unnamed Drayk-boat. Your death will not be in vain. My grateful character and my following characters will save your kind and countless other hapless creations.
  4. I prefer the green but man, you're quick! Thanks for your efforts.
  5. Welcome buddy! I also have tried my very best to avoid spoilers of Geneforge 1, and for someone that is haunting a geneforge forum for the past several years it was harder than it sounds*. AAAAALL these years of patience are about to be rewarded. *For example, I avoid reading most posts here in fear there will be spoilers.
  6. I have 113 games in my quene and I am downloading the demo right now. I will get the game the moment I see it and play it, skipping those 113 other games. It's how I got to have 113 games in my queue anyway.
  7. Oh. Ohhhh... Sorry for spreading misinformation then. I didn't do it on purpose. I just thought that there were differences in the various versions and apparently I am the only one that thought so in the googlable internet. Frankly, to me, it seems bizarre that there are no changes at all. I will try to remember in the future but if I forget in 2 years or something please don't hold it against me. It's just what I used to think (that versions are different one way or the other) for years.
  8. No? Didn't they try to fix the creation strength bug? Regardless, battle magic was a bit weak so it needed a bit of a boost IMO. And while going 4 spellcraft and 2 battle magic may end up around the same ... spellcraft increases mind magic as well. I.e. the way I see it is that you focus on mind / spellcraft and have 3 points in battle magic and you're fine as far as battle magic goes as your ice spray damage keeps going up - and fast - regardless.
  9. So spellcraft is x2 levels? Does this work for mind magic too? Frankly, I think it's not intentional and perhaps a bug introduced in later reintroductions of the game (i.e. making them for steam). If Spellcraft adds 2 levels to all magic skills, then it's insanely important. The only things you need magic for is to unlock the spells after all.
  10. Let's remain civil here. Rook has said something very interesting. He also stated that he's not that much interested to do more tests which is IMO understandable. A nice way to do the test is, in my opinion the following: Use the script in an area to turn an enemy's walking speed to near 0, resistance to fire to 0, give said enemy 2000 hp and enough XP for your character to advance 10 levels or something. Hit said enemy with firebolt 2, spellcraft 1 and battle magic 10 (<== XP bought) many many times and see how long it takes to kill him. 25 attacks? 22 attacks? Then load and hit said enemy with firebolt 2, battle magic 1 and spellcraft 10 (<==XP bought). See how long it takes to kill him. 20 attacks? 18 attacks? 25 attacks again? Then compare.
  11. Ahhh... I see I still cannot like posts. Well, TheKian, consider you have a +1 It would be funny if Ornks were available early game and you could win the game with a bunch of ornks, naming them "Meatshield_1" etc.
  12. Which leads me to believe the ornk has been replaced because I hope the cockatrice is upgradable.
  13. that is if the Cockatrice is not upgradable, which I think it will be. We will see when the beta tests start. Is anyone in this forum in the closed betas?
  14. So, from December update: They're done with the game, closed beta and after that betatesting for backers. They're looking at a late Feb release. That said, a few things from the update: " For example, you can make 20 different creations to fight for you. " OK, so that's 10 different creations. The level 1 to 3 ones + cockatrice. As such, I think Ornks can no longer be created in the game "The redone, expanded, super-pretty Geneforge world map. Conquer over 80 different regions!" Emmm... that honestly sounds more or less the size of the GF games I've played so far. Perhaps the "over 80" means 82 or even 83, but that's hardly a cause for celebration. I expected they would add at least +15% new regions. Well, I haven't played the original so every one of them would be new to me. In the screenshot, I see the agent more or less as we know her to look. However, her avatar seems different in the character roaster. Generally, from the screenshots so far the game looks much better but also... familiar. Not something that would throw me off. I am pleased with the looks of the map and the creations (with the exception that Fyoras are too big).
  15. And before we put the cart in front of the horse... is anyone willing to make such a modification that includes a patch for the ending? Or it's an academic discussion?
  16. Well, if Vinile or you or someone else makes it, I will certainly be willing to play it.
  17. Learning to mod the script is not that hard, just saying... and Kian's Zonelab could help you create / replace a couple of zones without too much effort, just throwing it there... I would certainly like to play a bandit that went against both sides and won.
  18. I still don't think it's legal even with a patcher. Unless there are parts in the discussion that I have missed.
  19. Unless you mod it, as I mentioned above. 😉
  20. So far, one or the other. And it would be hard to mod it otherwise. Hard, but possible. Not too difficult, mind you, just quite long. In effect you have to write a lot of text to explain it. Then in the first of those fights, you have to eliminate the Shaper or Drakon allies. Second you have to make sure that killing the big boss doesn't end the game but instead leads you to the 2nd part. Then you have to eliminate the Shaper or Drakon allies from the 2nd part. And yes, all those are possible through script manipulation. You don't even have to deal with zonelab or Hex editing as you simply remove allies and rewrite script. But it's a lot of work. What you CANNOT DO (or better, I don't know how it could be done) is to change the ending text.
  21. Why can't I like posts anymore? Anyone else has this issue?
