  1. True, the reason why is that Geneforge 1 has a few things that I wish were in every game. The leveling system is perfect in G1 in my opinion. The classes are all powerful and makes me want to try each out. The game isnt really that long which makes replayability more likely. And finally the most important-the end boss fight continues to prove to be unpredictable, challenging and fun for characters I make. Geneforge 2 is runner up in my opinion. I think that is all a matter of opinion G1 and G2. I like them both. Oops, I am raving again.
  2. It depends. Ice cream is a necessity for me, a favorite past-time, a sport, whatever ya call it. Im still 130 pounds so I guess something's to give. If you could give stealth as a skill on item, I'd take that. Rogue in real life much harder than in the games. The save/load part is not functioning yet.
  3. Has anyone ever wondered why rpgs seem to never get the realistic logistics right on combat? Take dungeons and dragons for example. Strength will never Ever be the most important statistic for combat and meleers. It should still provide damage but to hit? Really? Endurance and dexterity should be the most important skills for a fighter. You need dexterity to act fast and not get hit. You need endurance to take hits and provided by that-be given a feint. Strength is only useful if you are brawling/grappling. For characters that use bows and other ranged weapons, to hit and concentration matters moreso than dexterity. Dexterity is only useful when ranged versus other ranged. A mediocre amount of dex suffices. Concentration is really a great statistic although its in like no games. Mages and spellcasters should stay the same-intelligence and maybe concentration as just mentioned. Rogues really need just some dexterity and some strength makes them deadly I am not saying that spiderweb did things wrong-the very statement provides jeff a checkerboard match with me with a diet pepsi (I Don't like diet and I suck at checkers) What I am saying is what does strength ever even do other than provide a bit more force to stab? And what does dexterity do other than provide you to flip like Orlando Bloom at the dance club in moria? If you have dexterity, then you can evade attacks and move faster, thus attacking more in melee. Just strength wont get you far. The 2nd part of argument is endurance. Believe or not, if you can stay around for a longer fight and the enemy gets tired, they are screwed. Its like that guy with the marbles in his mouth-Sylvester Calzone. He gets in fights with people that are tough. He stays around and right when they start getting tired, he warms up and unleashes war on them. It doesn't always work, but if your skills are similar you can take them down. Endurance should get mentioned with this. I would say the stats to use for a fighter should in lowest to highest order-Strength, endurance, dexterity The stats for an archer in lowest to highest order should be Concentration, Strength, Dexterity Spellcaster-Concentration, Intelligence, ? I'll always love rpgs games make me laugh sometimes when I see an item+2 strength or +3 dexterity. Since I was a fighter I took the strength. If this was real life I would take dexterity. Or actually if this was real life I would take a nice big bowl of ice cream.
  4. Actually I think I may have found a fix for this. I keep on normal mode for regular enemies. When I get to boss characters I switch to casual. Seeing as I haven't completed the game yet that makes sense. I am sure that other players have done that before. If I replay, a success will be me being able to do previous fight on normal. Makes sense?
  5. Normal mode should be impossible mode. Its too tedious and frustrating.
  6. It would appear that whenever I think Geneforge cant get any better, it does... in ways that make life a 2nd priority. I read that somewhere on internet that you get hirelings in ALL Geneforge series that function much like Arcanum. I knew that G3 had it but I wasn't sure if they appeared in the rest of them. That's kind of neat. I happened to notice when I was playing the last Geneforge. Is there a set requirement for keeping any of them in G1-5 like in Arcanum. I used to just do that when playing Arcanum. They would say that they needed to do something and I would just keep them from doing exactly that. Im going try when im done this playthrough with some of the npcs in G2. Hopefully it works.
  7. I was going to say Or Artemis but I realized that would be lycanthropic paradox and going way too far. And seeing as that makes little sense, I decided to say nothing. Well.. except that, heh.
  8. Jeff is hero to me. We should bake him a six-layer cake. Then and only then will Miranda not crash our party.
  9. For what it's worth, the game is very good and here's why. I played the game through with 4 characters first try, 3 characters, solo and now 2 man party. The nonlinear really makes the game go by fast. I haven't played a spiderweb game this good since Geneforge 2. Im usually a Geneforge fan but I would say Geneforge 2 and Avernum the Pit are my 2 favorite games by jeff. Both those games use different leveling systems but each is awesome.
  10. School was fun senior year and that's about it. Graphic Arts Design was easy because the teacher didnt teach anything. We had an elaborate cheating program that was in place. 3 People did the work in the class and it was their job to make the right stuff. From there we would take assignments which were always different, and change a few things each time. I got an A- in class and I didn't do one thing. It was clutch!
  11. Whatever the case. If Jeff sells his company the games will be 10% of what they are now. His writing is excellent as is his world creation. The only games that are just as cool are Planescape Torment and others from golden era. If anyone else starts writing them, they will be terrible beyond belief and I cant stress that enough. The only way it could work would be if his wife or child did it with his support.
  12. If Jeff retires I don't know what I'll do. He wont last long though in retired state before coming back. Pagliacci pizza is good but eventually you want to do other things (hint-retire and when kids go to college you can come back). Thinks to self: Were Avadon 2 sales that bad? Jeez.
  13. Running a shaper and I want to know if there is a list for creation bonuses on items. I cant seem to find any items other than strength, endurance, dexterity and intelligence belts. Are there any items that you can get mid game. I am level 15.
  14. Gamebanshee said that they would do a walkthrough on jeff's Geneforge games IF and only IF someone that knows the game very well provides assistance. I haven't considered myself to be an expert on the 1st game. I am better at Geneforge 2 and haven't played the rest yet. Does anyone have the knowledge to put jeff on Gamebanshee for the greatest series ever made? Its lame that curse of the azure stuff is on Gamebanshee and yet Geneforge series has better graphics, story and tactics than other ya know?
  15. I don't need to play as an ornk. It was one of my past lives and although I am not proud of it, it is still who I am.
  16. I think this goes back to the famous quote in Avadon/Farland history. A few traitorous hands tried to sneak attack the old guy. A message was scratched in to form a stated fact-"If Redbeard breathes; you cant kill it." He's not human anymore so don't forget that. He's like a monk in dungeons and dragons. He's reached that level and is no longer human. You can try and defeat him but if he takes just 1 breath, your finished. Haha.
  17. If you don't kill Drath he eventually just takes a bath. If he doesn't take a bath than you will feel his wrath.
  18. Artemis deals more damage than Drizzt. His sword can kill with 1 strike if it hit the little elf and cause him to wither away. However Drizzt could just evade it.
  19. Maybe one of the moderators is related, you never know. Hm... Someone reminds me of Craftmaster Nic and I cant grasp who it is. Give me a moment. Edit-Its Alorael. DoubleEdit-Sike! Real Answer-I forgot the question.
  20. I'm actually Redbeard's illegitimate Son. My hair isn't red though.
  21. Geneforge, Avernum and other older spiderweb games: You get health, spell points but mostly you get better at what you do. The only difference is that what you do changes from level to level. You are mastering different things but its all very similar to a d and d class. Is that what you mean with close enough to fallout 1 and 2?
  22. I want to solo Avernum 4 with a sword and bow wielding ranger. I will get at least some priest spells for healing and whatever. Besides that I will rely on my bow for range and sword for close up fighting. I am going to master in 3 skills Strength/Bows and hardiness. Does anyone know if I this build will work for soloing the game? If there is any ideas for the 3 skills I have let me know as they are not final.
  23. Randomizer, is a fighter/healer viable if I don't do all the side quests you mentioned or is it required to do a fighter/priest for main quests? I was just going to crank melee and all those skills out the kazoo and with elite warrior trait, I will block many attacks in Avernum 4. At least that's what the thread said.
  24. Is soloing possible in Avernum 4-6 or just the remake because of respawning enemies? I played a fighter/priest or a fighter who relies on priest attack spells. Would a fighter/healer work too? A fighter/healer is a warrior who relies on healing and moreso on fighting rather than attack spells. Should I go a different avenue on traits. I was hoping to take elite warrior for the parry but divine touched sounds good too. Edit-Oh and which should I solo, Avernum 4 or 5? which is easier. Thanks chris kringle.
  25. My Fighter did it with strength and intelligence and no endurance or dexterity. Melee 12, 10 hardiness, 4 quick action, 6 lethal blow. 8 Priest spells and some resistance and tool use. The only spells used were smite at lvl 2 and the first heal you get at lvl 2. The slith king was somewhat tough but mostly because when you are alone, that berserker swing is much too risky if it hits. If he hits you with that thing you are finished or possibly out of the fight. Another thing is that the throne defenders are worse than the king. They can corner you and not getting away from swing means dessert for king. I will possibly try a fighter/healer in future who only deals damage with melee and heals before jumping back at king. Its possible I think I just need to find another fight room next time. I mostly dealt damage at beginning with sword and then let a throne defender come in front of a tunnel. The king sat there and was frustrated and did a Vogel face at me (he knew he lost). I then to make it realistic, killed the defender and finished off slith king with my sword. It was a tough fight and I got it on my 3rd try. Is soloing the king supposed to be like that or should I have done something else? Oh and smite rocks. Do I suck at the fight or should I have been able to melee him the whole time.
