  1. It works and Im done with my scenario and now i have the game. The assassination skill does wonders. Im vanquishing bosses with a high level of it. Helped immensely when i played a1, and now even more so with boa. Is assassination in the later games? i didnt see it when i fooled with a4.
  2. Hi, I am wondering if i play blades of avernum, save a group of adventurers on one computer, then copy the save and bring it to my home computer, will that work? Im on a long drive with my parents and i need to use the laptop.

The old system was either easier to exploit for me, or the new one is imbalanced-I take the latter. Also, that's not imbalance you're describing. You're basically saying that A1 was easier and more forgiving, and A4 is harder. If it was imbalance, you'd be saying "soloing A4 with a fighter is easy, whilst soloing A4 with a mage/priest is hard". Just because the two games are in the same series doesn't mean tactics in one should work in the other. Take Zelda; in TLoZ, you could quite easily just spam sword attacks to beat most foes - especially with full life. In OoT, that's not really the case: the game is more challenging and complex. And yet nobody is crying out that OoT is unbalanced. I guess that makes sense. Then i guess that might mean that the original avernums might be easier for me. I still dont think that would mean that im good at them. I simply think that the engine is more favorable to me, whereas the newer engine's dont work for me. Hopefully i get it someday.

This seems unlikely; I began playing A2 with no knowledge going in about the gameplay in terms of character skills and abilities. It was a little confusing at first, but between the game manual and the in-game tooltips I got the hang of it fairly rapidly. I wasn't frustrated; I was having so much fun that I was desperate to purchase the full game when I ran out of demo. You have to understand that the imbalance between characters is immense. In geneforge 1 and 2, you are almost forced to play certain characters as the other characters dont perform nearly as good as the others. In g2, the guardian is the king almost to the point where playing an agent was pointless. In g1, there are no protective skills to help against getting hit all the time. You essentially have to hope that you dont get hit for 140 damage, otherwise you reload numerous times. There are alot more people than you'd think that find jeff's quirkyness crazy. The geneforge series is very impractical, but you know what is funny-the original avernums are the easiest games out there. Take the first avernum, you can solo with 2 characters, then take any of the second trilogy games, try the same thing-you are screwed. Jeff hopefully gets this straightened out soon.
  6. I believe you are probably correct about the games. There is definitely an imbalance on the engines of all the games. Geneforge and Avernum especially. Ive played through numerous other games that were hard in the past-arcanum, fallout, and toee and all of them were turnbased action games where items are king. In spiderweb's games, skills and the right build are king and if you dont know what the skills are (which no one usually will) you will lose enough times till you cannot play the game anymore. The developer expects you to figure out how to make it through the game, to the point where he doesnt even give any advice. Its not you, Im having numerous amount of problems with a4.
  7. I went with a shaman class and am using the ninja guy Shima as an ally. After playing the game a bit, i am starting to understand how the game really works. It took a bit of time to read all the little tidbits that are read to you, almost like a book. Its actually very different from any turn-based game ive played. Unlike fallout's system where a certain group of weapons are the main way to get through the game, Avadon, unless im wrong, has choosing the right skills to be vastly more important to surviving than say getting the ultimate weapon. My improving weapons had less effect than say getting to level 6 of an attack skill which hits everyone for large damage. I am so far done with the beast of khemeria and havent really had many problems yet. The shadow walker class is extremely helpful in many situation. The only thing i would mention is the npcs in regard so far. Each npc is exactly identical to skills than say a class you make yourself of the same type. If there was a way for each npc to have an ability that is unique to them or skill, that would be really cool and would make the npc experience a lot more unique. Other than that, the game is a lot of fun so far.
  8. If i go with missile weapons, what should i put my stats into: I dont want to spread them out too much. I should probably work on two stats, right?
  9. Ok I read up a bit on avadon. Sounds like an interesting story after reading all the stories and intros in game section of spiderweb. Who would go well with a 2 man party with me being the shaman? I dont know the game's toughness but i know that its a 3 person game. So, any info on what class would mesh well with that, would be helpful.
  10. I just started out in the game and there are 4 classes i can choose. Of the 4, I'd like to try either the shaman or the blademaster. If i pick her or him, do I have to pick a fighter to join me to back me up like in icewind dale/baldurs gate? And if so, what would work as a good team of 2 for either of those classes?
  11. Just started playing the game a4 a bit, it's sort of ok. The only thing is is there any dialogue between your characters or can you get them to talk through modding? I wasnt sure. Im looking for something that has the mentality like planescape-torment. Im really into a decent story with parties that can be done differently. I want to make my character and then get to join with another warrior in a mission. I learn more about that npc and they progress, gain new abilities and other benefits. But it can be done differently, as mentioned before. Is that avadon game like that and could i do the sample 2 party that i mentioned before, or is it too much like avernum?

The 2nd character would be the trap disarmer, partial melee fighter and ranged weapon fighter. He will shoot out the little guys and make the main tanks life easier. Could i do something along those lines? I would like a challenge and might have to set the difficulty rating down a bit, if that works. Yes, it will work. I've done very similar parties, but Avernum has both Mage and Priest spells, so you might want to have some of each. And archery ranges from pretty good to nearly useless, depending on which Avernum you're playing. Playing with less than a full party doesn't leave much room for error, though; I hope you won't get frustrated on your first try. Oh, then im not sure how it will work. I dont usually use bows, when i played my last rpg i used throwing weapons instead and when i got too close, engaged in melee. I dont know if they will work in this game however.

  14. Hi all. I have spent some time away from video games and happened to cross your website in interest. Ive seen a few of the pictures of the games and am not really sure which game to start with. I like games with parties, but am not a big fan of the large party systems. I played arcanum and had just a team of 2 characters both casting spells and both fighting. Your avernum series looks to be promising however, the earlier games might not be my style graphics wise. If I could start at any game partywise, what would be a good choice. Im into plot mostly, but if its got a good party sysem then thats more important. Like I said, I havent played games in a while and am really just looking for something I can slowly go through.
