  1. Mechanics wise I would have to say that an Avernum party would have the most power, from any point of the series. Presuming we're talking about the standard fantasy set up of Warrior, Rogue, Mage, and Priest, each character would ideally have access to a specific role, that put togethor, could definitely defeat a Geneforge Shaper, even with a full squad of creations. It really comes down to who gets the bigger guns, and while a single Geneforge character has access to more then 1 Avernum adventurer, 4 Avernum characters have more pooled power then 1 Geneforge person. Again, it's impossible to say for certain because the combat systems are different. As for plot wise, I think the obvious winner would be Geneforge. Any one who plays Geneforge should take that the amount of power they get to use are for balencing purposes; basically the reason why Geneforge PC's can't make creations in combat or have more then 7. The series has shown that a single shaper can take a lot down with him/her. Quote: In Avadon, you're personally powerful, but not on a national scale. Most of what gets people scared isn't you, but what you represent and who's behind you. Yes, at the end you can try to take down Avadon single-handedly... but a lot of the groundwork has been done for you, and you still aren't really on your own, just the last and biggest cog in the rebellion. I'm inclined to agree. Throughout my playthrough of Avadon I was getting a very distinctly feeling of "I'm just another piece on the table," something I've never thought in Geneforge or Avernum. In the latter two games I (fondly) felt like I was the deciding factor and that by the end of the game, I'm equal to everyone else or above them, more Geneforge then Avernum. That's the not case for Avadon, at least for me. Have to say, I liked the change of perspective.

    Avernum on Steam

Hi. This has probably been discussed before but is there any word that the old Avernum's will be on Steam in the future, or was the Geneforge bundle (which I bought and loved) just a one time deal? Thanks.
  3. Most people don't realize that Dr. Thrasher was indeed a scholar among his people. Despite his short life time, Dr. Thrasher published several notable works that earned him great respect as both a thinker and a scientist. Such works include The Great Art of the Act of Punching, You Can't Get Nuff Ornk Meat, Return of the Five Finger Slap, Why Hungary Rogues Need to Eat, and let us not forget, Squishy Humans - Proper Edible Techniques. Our generation truly lost one of its greats that sad day in the Whitespires. We should carry in our hearts Dr. Thrasher's efforts and use them to guide what we do every day. Rest in peace old chap.

  5. Oh, I completely agree, it would be proprosterous to have Drakons, Rothgroths and Gazers on Sucia. I just don't see the regression on the creation amount being appreciated by most of us, myself included. Maybe we'll have the 9 creations we started at but also have 2 different versions plus the base version.
  6. In an Email I sent Jeff he's said something like, "You can be 99% sure that there will be a remake of the Geneforge games." As for whether or not there will be a remake before the rest of the presumed Avernum remakes (technically speaking Avernum's 2-3 haven't been confirmed I don't think,) remains to be seen. If G1 gets a remake though, it begs the question of will the creations we get in 2-5 be recannoned into existance. I'd be sad to loose my Eyebeasts
  7. Happy holidays folks! Hope everyone gets a nice break.
  8. George Lucas really loves trolling his audience..
  9. If I remember right he just sort of fuses and says it's still got to get done, whether he likes it or not. The outcome is the same regardless; you need to enter the tunnel on your own.

I thought the reproducing bulwark could build me a wall to hide behind but the only thing i've gotten them to do is to fill my pack with a bunch of worthless bricks. the speed pods don't get you far enough out of the way and past. stealth is impossible in that area. I've just been thinking maybe let a wolf take all the action and let my party run by to the entrance. I don't believe Jenell will get mad at you for killing the guards outside of the building. The ones inside are the ones you are supposed to save.
  11. Recently after getting back from camp I've stumbled across a slew of youtube videos and blog sites about "Bill S.978". Now from what I understand, this bill will make it a felony to upload any footage of media to online video sharing sites (ie: youtube) without the explicit permission of the publisher of said material. It's actually a pretty reasonable bill; companies definitely loose plenty of revenue to streaming sites where people air, say, the latest episode of Family Guy right onto the internet, so people can bypass actually watching the show on the television (thus not watching commercials and bringing the ratings of the show down). The same goes for movies and music. Under the bill, people will now be fined and can even be sent to jail for up to 5 years if caught streaming or uploading a movie to be accessed without paying the creator. For TV and movies, this bill would definitely be a benefit, as it could prevent if at least cut down on the availableness of the latest media on the internet. The problem however lies in the vibrant LPing community thats grown on youtube. If you aren't aware of what an "LPer" is, I'll try to sum it up. A commentator records himself playing a video game and, obviously, offers opinions and comments in the form of live or post-recorded audio. Given the interactive nature of games, this is not to be considered the same as a live stream of a TV show; each persons experience in a game is fundamentally unique, so even though you are being shown the game, you are definitely not getting the same experience as playing it. Back on point. This youtube community is responsible for many games getting large amounts of exposure to the general public. Indeed, if Seananners had not recorded himself playing Minecraft and given the game a huge amount of exposure (he has hundreds of thousands of subscribers), the game would surely not have the same amount of publicity and attention that it has now. This is just one of many different examples of this community's amazing benefit's to the gaming community, which is the chief reason why gaming companies rarely interfere with people putting gameplay online. In the last few weeks there has been a major push from gaming communities all over the world to have this Bill stopped or at least amended. If passed, most material on youtube will now be considered a felony by the federal government. Here's some other videos and sites I found that can help explain this bill: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=s112-978 http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-s978/show You can definitely google this up and get some information yourself. If I made an error somewhere above, please point it out so I can amend the post. Did anyone know that this was going on? If so, do you have any opinions to share? I'm of the opinion that this bill is too vague and loosely worded to be passed as it is. I'm not opposed to a bill that affects just TV, Movies and Music however. In the case of video games though, this bill could hurt the industry, and nobody wants that.
  12. Go back and talk to the Carstal guy, the one who's running the fortress. Ask him about the wizard and he'll tell you he's probably gone to his fortress. That will unlock the area which will allow you to finish him up.
  13. If I recall correctly, you aren't required to steal the research, you need to stop it. You can do this by either killing the two shapers or sneaking into the northern tunnels where you're getting the radiation damage and overload the system of one of the pedistals.
  14. I honestly didn't enjoy it. It was probably the worst part of the game for me. I've got no trouble with difficult battles, but I broke down and started using cheats to get my way through it half way since the thought of starting all over again made me feel sick.
  15. Nope. You've innitiated the endgame. Took me by surprise too.
  16. There's really nothing to be added to the Geneforge universe that would have any subsistence. Remakes would be nicer.
  17. If you commit to finishing his quests, you will alter what happens to him in 4 of the endings, excluding rebels. Same for the control tool, but you don't have to remove that until right before the final battle.

Where is the traitor Hand Gavin in the Beraza Woods?

    Knock out?

I know that I was just expecting G5 or A6's leveling speed. By the way, where can I find this Runner Faiga for Jenell's Ideal's quest?

    Knock out?

Good to know. Instead of making a new topic, I'll just ask here, what's the level cap? My guys are leveling suspiciously slowly. I just beat the Shadow Beast and he's only level 10.

    Knock out?

Are there any penalties for getting your guys repeatedly knocked out during conscience (reduced stats, lost exp, etc)?

  23. Drayks and Rotghroths always stood out in my mind. I usually like to have a couple of them in my party if I'm playing a Shaper class.
  24. On a semi-related note, there's a small preview for Avadon here, to wet peoples appetites. Any day now folks, it's coming Edit: All these Av's are getting confusing. ._.
  25. If you aren't already, kill Ghaldring's top and bottom Drakons to reduce the amount of creations coming at you. Also, if you're careful and slick about it, you can get into fight mode with only 1 of the Drakons on Ghaldrings flanks; they're much easier to kill and can (if I remember correctly) even be drawn away if you position it right. Since you seem to pretty much have a deadweight shaper, use all your essence to heal/buff you War Tralls. Two War Tralls can take on the Ur-Drakon with a little practice. Also keep in mind that you can exit the area and go back to a town to recharge/heal. Save pods for the actual fight. As for taking out Ghaldring himself, besides killing off his helpers, try and use the NPC's a meatshields. It doesn't matter if they die or not, and Astoria is pretty strong on her own. I would personally focus all attacks on Ghaldring and skimp on the pylons altogethor but that's up to you. Hope this helps.
