It hurts me to think that the average gamer dislikes politics despite it is present in almost every game plot. To be fair, a lot of people play games to escape from reality. People who might otherwise be interested in world politics just don't want to deal with it while they're slaying Dragons, collecting/stealing loot, and rescuing various damsels from various distressful situations. I try to stay active in my own local county political scene as well as the rest of the country (US). But when someone tried converting me to join the Red Cross while I'm playing Xbox Live, I get pretty jaded.
  2. There's really no point in speculating how good the sales are for Avernum until Jeff definitively says how many copies it sold. That being said, I expect we'll get an A2:CS around a 13/14 new years mark.
  3. Also, just because humans have settled one series of caves, that doesn't mean there aren't other distant caves across the world that aren't connected with Avernum proper.
  4. Speaking of killing Micah, you can also kill Erika without her doing anything. Jeff must of forgot to make some characters essential.
  5. Not to spoilerize the thread, Click to reveal.. but I like the ending with 4 brooches better. Gives the game a nice cusp and puts the players conveniently out of the way for A2. It also lets them die as Martyrs and adds to their whole "legends" spiel.
  6. Then you need to go kill Pyrog and get hers. She's east of the Giants. You'll also need the thief's brooch, which can be found in the southeast part of Mertis behind a building. You'll need to buy it.
  7. The thief is in the southeast corner of Metris. Remember to talk to the thief in Dharmon before you go there, otherwise there won't be any options to get it. Since you didn't state where you got the other 3 from... 1) In a cave near Motrax. Ask him about any treasures/adventurer's coming to see him. Just ask him a bit, and he'll tell you that you can go into the caves west of his next. Get the Ivory brooch past the fire lizards. 2) The second one is in the cave of the Giant Intelligent Friendly Talking Spiders, west of Motrax, near fort Draco. Ask the leader (they're all called "spider", so you just need to keep talking to them until you find it) and it'll send you on a quest to kill the Aranea to the west. Complete that quest, come back, and the spiders northeast treasure room will open up. Inside you'll find the Malachite brooch. 3) Go to the Spiral of the Undead east of Metris to find the Peal brooch. Can't remember exactly where it is, but I'm pretty sure its in the center. 4) The final brooch is in Pyrog's lair. To my knowledge you have to kill her in order to obtain it. Her lair is east of the Giants land. If you've got this quest at the time I did, you shouldn't be too challenged by her. Kill her, nab her treasure (and her papers, since a couple people want them), and look around for the Chalcedony Brooch. Good luck, feel free to ask for more help.

    Avadon II ?

I have to agree with Jeff's reasoning. You're not stock-and-file grunts or adventurer's with questionable backgrounds. The story plays you off as a soldier, serving under your commander and doing what you're told. Soldiers who go AWOL generally get the boot. Also, Hearts are the Keepers advisor's, not his elite Hands. They're supposed to be acting as lieutenants for Redbeard. Eyes only go out on missions like you, so for the same reason you can't, they aren't going to village-to-village asking for cellar rats to slaughter. Note that I do hope Jeff makes Avadon 2 bigger, in terms of how many places we get to explore. I don't need 3 trips to the same place. You gave us a new world, I want to go poke it!
  9. I would recomend getting Dispel Barrier Level 3 anyway for future barriers, but it would be a waste of time to go back to each one to get some o-k items.
  10. There's no money cap, so you can stack as much cash as you want. Money is pretty tight in this game, from my experience. A few bought spells can blow away your entire life savings fast, so it pays to plan ahead on what you want. Also, I wouldn't recomend buying any items from stores. You get plenty from dungeons and it will only drain your income.

The second trilogy runs just fine and is probably close enough to the current trend in graphics and gameplay. —Alorael, who would expect remakes of the earlier Geneforges first. They're older, after all, and Geneforge 1 is beloved enough that it might merit the treatment. On the other hand, it has also already made the leap to Steam. At any rate, these decisions can and probably will wait until the A2r and A3r. I asked Jeff in an email a few months back and he said he was planning on remaking the Geneforge series as well with the same engine upgrades as G5, but not within the immediate future. We'll probably see Avadon 3 before a Geneforge 1 remake. I do hope that he adds some skills and creations to the game. Specifically Battle Disciplines (and maybe additional creations to make up for no Drakon/Gazer/Rotghroth). Give us Guardian lovers some grace.
  12. Are you thinking of Avernum 6? That was Jeff's only game that made you eat food.

  14. Thanks, didn't know other people wanted it. Might hold onto it.
  15. Hey, how do I turn in the Password quest for the Scimitar's? I have all 4 parts but Erika doesn't have any new text, nor does the Scimitar lady.
  16. here we go again Where is the Empire orb for the join the Scmitar Quest? I've stormed the outpost, killed the captain etc but can't find it.
  17. Well my Bow-guy can shoot you in the face before you can swing your chop-sticks, so blaw
  18. I've been playing on Normal-Hard in my first game and so far my Archer is doing decent damage. 40 points per shot at level 23, probably mid-way into the game content wise. There's a couple of Quicksilver/Action-Point increasing items in the game that take away Strength I've given to her. Add that with all the skill points used and she gets a second shot 3/4 of the time. Also note that when the number-crunching folk say that so-and-so isn't "viable", they're talking about on Torrent. Guardians were playable in G3 on normal. I don't think I've ever played a game where something wasn't the best or the most "efficient", so don't be too hard on SW.
  19. Quote: 4. Spiderweb Software desperately needs a new series. Avadon is NOT it. Avadon is too similar to the Avernum series. (Avadon should be a "one off" like Nethergate.) Spiderweb Software needs a new series that is as different from Geneforge and Avernum as Geneforge and Avernum are different from each other. This part kind of confused me. What, preciously, do you find in Avadon that is "too similar" to Avernum? I can't even say that I see more resemblance to Geneforge - because I don't. Avadon is its own entity - several "world" maps, a major struggle involving politics as its center, it's own universe, party members with stories and personalities. Albeit the Bioware influence is pretty clear I don't get what you're getting at. I mean, what's the same? "Av"? Unless you're getting at the graphics. Meh. If they looked fine in one game they can look good in another, imo. (Also, while I have a few gripes about the narration of A:EftP and the opened-ended nature of the game (which I don't prefer over the more linear pace of Jeff's recent titles), it's still quite a fine game. The combat and engine is at its best in my opinion - all the changes introduced in G5 as far as buffing and such have been finessed excellently) Edit: Also, Nethergate didn't sell very well. Had it sold enough to merit a sequel, you can bet your bottom dollar any developer with sense would have made a Nethergate 2.
  20. Sup. Where's that old guy Khoth hanging out these days? Need his Dispel book.
  21. *headdesk* 18 hours into the game and I didn't know the staircase. Thanks, at least I know this now as opposed to another 18 hours in.
  22. Quote: Dikiyoba is currently optimistic about the Avernum: Subtitled series, though. A:EftP seems to have whatever it is that A1 lacks, while the Geneforge series is hurt by the age of its earlier games, the unoriginality of G3, and the fact that G5 is just one retcon after another. Don't forget missing continents. Although, some of the retcons seemed more like re-con's to me, particularly Litalia's backstory.
  23. Me again. When will I be able to use the Pylon's?

Ergo, skipping certain fights such as the Castle commander in Kellem (can't remember the names). If you spend your resources on those fights, ones that would ideally make you seem like a loyal hand, and then fighting Redbeard, the battle will be much harder to do.
