Giving this man a podium validates everything he did, which is a poor message to send to others who might be willing to do something similar. This is a complete atrocity, for sure, but I don't think anyone is suggesting we let this guy get a spot on CNN. Anyone suggesting that we "learn" from this man is surely meaning we give him a serious pyscho-analysis and determine what got him to that mind state to begin with. If he was just born crazy, then its important to know why he's crazy, to help other people who are crazy to stop them from doing, you know, crazy stuff...I also think it's a little naive to think he could influence other people into doing something like this. Also, the details are still coming in. We aren't aware of the exact motive, so making assumptions about his reasons before the Doc's have looked at him is a little counterproductive, isn't it?
  2. Yay, new story! Enjoying it so far.

    Book Club Poll

Everything was Probably Participate, except for "Cat's Cradle", which was absolutely yes and "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" which was probably not.
  5. Not being really familiar with a lot of literature, I'd like to participate even though I have nothing to suggest. Is that alright?
  6. For the second question, I voted "Other". It depends on who I'm celebrating with. My family finds all possible excuses to temporarily shake off responsibility on birthdays to celebrate human aging. They're really annoying about it, and with them, I tend to fall under the Dislike/Hate option. With friends I tend to have a bit more fun because they don't go as overboard about it and talk about all the things I can start doing/will be responsible for. At least not to my face, which is good enough.

    Age

This poll has reminded me how I've been reading/participating on these forums for nearly 5 years. All because I wanted to know what Luck did.
  8. The more I play RPGs the more I realize how much I like linearity more then openness. I'm one of those casual players that needs some strong direction in order to stay interested in the game and plot. If I'm given to much freedom I find myself loosing interest in the game and wondering off to the next one. On the flip side, for me at least, atmosphere and setting has a lot to due with it. In a game like RDR, having an open environment fits the setting well. Avernum:EFTP is another example of providing me with a world interesting enough to merit wandering around. A game like Minecraft, however, is really hard for me to get into, since it has pretty much no fixed progression and gives the player damn near all the power of what to do first and how to proceed.
  9. I think I was level 26 when I went for Drath. You gotta go do some Giant huntin' ^>^

I'm not familiar with Gateway so I don't know where'd you find the files unfortunately.
  11. What level are you at? I remember Drath being a pretty hard boss to beat at the time I got the Demonslayer quest. You may just have arrived a little too early to be that effective, because Drath is definitely the hardest fight of the three. IIRC, doesn't Drath have an AoE attack? Keeping your spellcasters on the corners of the room can help avoid damage. Not sure how much I can help though, your party should really have a dedicated healer. What I did was use summons and my soldier to box him and force him into Melee. My priest healed him constantly and my Rogue/Mage flung spells and razordisks at him from a distance, also targeting the summons....I guess don't be too stingy with potions/scrolls? Sorry but its going to be really tough since you don't have a full Priest character. Also, about 3/4ths into the fight Drath will offer you a chance to spare him and skip the rest of his health. You miss out on a great robe for your Mage but if its frustrating, you technically don't need to plan all the way through his health if you'd rather skip it.
  12. What difficulty are you playing on? Also, if you can post screenshots of your characters or tell us their skills we can help you build them better. In my personal experience, its better to use Melee characters more defensively and use your slingers/casters as your offensive batteries. For instance, if your Blademaster is going first, put him in between enemies and your slingers/casters. If you see a target across the screen don't run up to him/her/it one by one. That will get your characters surrounded and beaten pretty bad, so try to move in unison as a group. If you're using swords, you may want to consider switching to Pole Arms since they're pretty much superior to a Sword-Shield combo in every way. I never found shields to really cover all that much damage anyway. Edit: Oops, I was thinking of Avernum.

    Hello Ladies

In my experience, girls interested in pursuing science fields as a career are some of the vain-less people ever, so the idea that there's a demand for this, or that it will generate interest from females, is quite absurd.
  15. It depends on the horse. My sisters creature (I refuse to call it a pet; it smells like sewage and is the most unfriendly thing on the planet) has a of thick, short coat but I've seen breeds with large belts of hair running across its body from snout to booty. As for Pokemon, Drakon's and Charizard's share a great deal of resemblance. Roamer's look like mangled Growlithe's without the fur coat. And I guess Artila's can look like pale Caterpie's in the right light.

We'll be seeing Avadon: The Corruption this year and A2:CS next year.
  17. Hey all. I was looking through the scripts and I'm having difficulty finding the files that the Geneforge (the one you use in the game) are located in. I was playing through G5 and wanted to have a little fun with it. If anyone would happen to know where/how I can edit the files to change the skills the Geneforge gives you, I'd appreciate it. I'm playing in the Steam version btw.
  18. 1. I'm pretty sure you either need Khoths spell or the Empire Insignia. One of the other should get you in. 2. I'm also pretty sure you double back around and can come through the other side after getting to the other end of the Tower, but I'm not 100% on that.
  19. A Mage in Fort Dranlon will be willing to teach you Dispel after completing a quest for her. I don't remember what the quest is but I don't remember it being that difficult. The spell book for Dispel Barrier is . If you're only level 1 though, you should try and do some other quests in the mean time. I wouldn't recomend trying to get to Fort Dranlon until level 3-4 in case you run into Bandits or Sliths.

  22. I didn't get the impression that Erika was so blinded by her hatred for the Empire/Emperor that she was becoming it (though I did feel like it was suggested). What makes you think she's so cruel? As far as I'm concerned, she's only done good things for Avernum and there's no law against being doorknob to people.
  23. Not quite. You can switch out the available creations with each other to get other creations (ie, switching the Fyore for an Unbound etc.) Don't know how to do this though. And as always, messing with the scripts can mess up your game so remember to back-up the files.
  24. After the two towers, you should get to this circle-looking area with a building to walk into after Erika teleports over. Are you entering the doorway? That will actually send you to Emperor Hawthorne.
