The Ornk Lord: I need Infos
Randomizer replied to MagmaDragoon's topic in Geneforge Series - Originals
Just be sure to be ready in combat mode since he has a lot of quick action or dexterity to attack first and do high damage. You have to do over 400 points of damage to get him to back off and survive to round 2. Nice gloves, but I was in finish up mode and didn't need them any more. -
Have I been playing too much Geneforge?

Dock Ruins , and Boat -- Geneforge 1
Randomizer replied to LadyCroft's topic in Geneforge Series - Originals
I tried the one you mentioned Thuryl, I saved far enough back to get a few others. I'll try them tomorrow. -
I'm still waiting for Jeff to get around to installing my free spycam so I can ask him whose been playing with my computer when I'm not around. I see Apple has them in the new computers so Jeff just has to download the images when you log on to the boards. Didn't you ever wonder why there are more delays when you open a thread?

I only used cheats three times. Once in Exile 2 when my saved file had a glitch where I was trapped through no fault of my own. In Blades of Exile I accidently rolled past the money cap into negative money and didn't want to collect enough to give me positive cash flow. The last was in Avernum 2 where it was my fault and i didn't want to start over so I recharged my spell energy and went out to redo the dungeon properly. I hate to use a cheat, but sometimes after weeks of work you just need to do it.

Big-Mondo Spoilers: the Big Secret
Randomizer replied to Nick Ringer's topic in Geneforge Series - Originals
The one who tells you the Big Secret is barely able to talk. There was one big hint in the Temple to the north on a pylon and some minor hints scattered through the wastes. It does resolve the Geneforge and Avernum worlds are probably separate. Still it was worth the effort. -
Some damaging floors can be skirted to one side to get less damage.

I enjoyed the Exile versions more than Avernum. I agree that you should play the games in order because the older games seem poorer because of the interface. But play whatever seems fun since you might as well enjoy yourself. Each game has something fun.

Am I screwed?
Randomizer replied to Harkell's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
I think the fort you cleared is west of the Abyss. If so that is the one Khoth destroyed and not the one you want. -
A Few More Advance Words On Geneforge 4
Randomizer replied to Spidweb's topic in Geneforge Series - Originals
A better idea would be the Return of the Sholai, where the survivors of Sucia Island in GF1 make a boat and return to their homeland to tell of what happened. Now years after GF4 and the war between the Loyalists and the Rebels, they're back to gain power. -
Regarding Athron's lair, you give the dragon a chance to step aside and who cares about a demon. Besides there isn't much loot except for the Infernal Shroud. The books are still there for Athron.

Where is the third drake fang?
Randomizer replied to Crowley's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
Jeff did it deliberately to make you choose which quest reward do you really want. -
It really depends upon the player. I've played in Torment mode and found that you can get through the games if you think a bit and take your time when playing the tough fights. Geneforge is easier to die in and you have to stay in combat mode most of the time when exploring. Avernum is more forgiving of mistakes and lets you spend most of the time out of combat mode and just exploring. Jeff thought Avernum 4 would require a team effort, but it's possible to play as a singleton. You can make the games as challenging as you want by choosing how to approach the games.

what's up with the spiral crypt?
Randomizer replied to Johannas-Visionary's topic in The Exile Trilogy
Go look at the "Spiral Crypt" thread. It's not that old and has what you need. -
The Alien Blade and Mithril Broadsword in Footracer province
Randomizer replied to Carl_dup1's topic in The Exile Trilogy
You can obtain the mithril in 3 different places. Then you have the choice of making it into a mithril sword, a beastslayer sword, or fulfilling a quest. The Alien Blade is hard to get even with the hint book. You have to be in the right place after certain things have happened and figure out what is going on at the right time. -
The best that you can hope for is that most of the town is not actively hostile. At least then you can trade, train, and fulfill minor quests.

If you kill an isolated guard...
Randomizer replied to MrAndersonMan's topic in Second Avernum Trilogy
There's a really old post about the chest on the upper level of Formello with the guard blocking it. It contains some javelins and other minor stuff. There are a lot of things like that are just there to annoy you. -
Learned Darian Speculation
Randomizer replied to Mr.Bookworm's topic in Geneforge Series - Originals
I bet she's been working with the sane members of the crazed Taker cult from GF1 that were learning magic. She's been learning magic and getting power. -
Go back to the corridor that runs from behind the quickghast throne to the ruby skeleton/wight area. Start searching for secret passages going towards the center. Magic map helps show the area you want. The sealed corridor on the east side is useless.

There are some threads that calculate tool use and unlock door with mage abilities so you can figure out how difficult a door you can get through.

Monir Quests: Portmaster Pirro and Lost Mages.
Randomizer replied to sasprin's topic in Second Avernum Trilogy
Don't forget to go back to the Tower Colony after freeing the mages. One of them is there and has a reward for you. -
I want my other two characters back!
Randomizer replied to Naomi's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
The two extra characters in Exile are useful because of how the game engine deals with treasure that falls on the floor after killing a monster. In Avernum, unless it's a wilderness encounter from A1-3, the treasure remains to be picked up later. In Exile the treasure is always gone when you leave the area. The extra characters allow you to pick up more loot so you can finish off a dungeon and never need to come back. OR you can keep redoing a dungeon for the monster treasure and experience, but that becomes boring. -
Have I been playing too much Geneforge?
Randomizer replied to Michael Pearson's topic in Geneforge Series - Originals
19. When you are carrying too much you drop the extra stuff in a pile expecting it to be there when come back later. 20. You keep trying to use cheat codes and wonder why they didn't work.
