  1. With 10 essence, I can't heal my creations, remove mental stuff and cast daze. Using an essence pod to get back 10 essence seems a waste of an essence pod to me... should I re-evaluate on that? Leadership helps resist mental attacks on creations? That's awesome. Thanks. Do I have to keep Mind increased for Daze to keep up like the previous GF games? Or with mind 1 I could get by till I am level 10 or something?
  2. Hello, I am pretty early in the game, with just a few hours in so far. I would like some help from the "Masters" here but please avoid spoilers. I.e. if the advice is "Wait till you beat X in Y area" then please use something like "Wait till you do some other quests first." or something. I have not played Geneforge 1 (the original) saving myself for years to play the remake fresh. I play a Shaper on normal difficulty and I focus on Essence mastery and so far, on Fire Shaping with a bit of dabbing out to mechanics and leadership. In the future I will have a couple of blessing spells and I already have the two early healing spells and daze. I was having a relatively headache-free time in the early game. I went to Pentil woods with my two Cryoas (no melee cryoa) and my trusty buffed Fyora. And then, the Vlish came and I have to save before every battle! I didn't have nearly as much trouble with the roamers, having to run away from the Thorny Fen once I think (Roamer calling friends). I managed to cut my way to the entrance of Pentil (which I found early), with all my creations wounded and my char at zero essence. And I have 3 creations. Should I invest the Essence I have remaining to buff up a Cryora to be melee? Would the Leap ability allow my Cryora to jump on the $%^#%$@ Vlish and hit it before they call their friends? Or I should use my essence to make another Fyora? Or it is better to keep the essence to heal/bless my poor creations? (Reminder, after battling 4 or 5 Vlish, I ran out of essence - with bless magic at 1, war blessing barely gets me through a battle) Does Daze work reliably on the Vlish? I have mind magic 1, I don't put points in it. My control on the creations is not bad. Will that help them resist the Terror? Because none of them resisted so far. Or it's completely irrelevant and they will never resist?
  3. You can buff up the levels of the creations easily. I haven't advanced much but it's a single line of code. Put the Battle Beta the PC makes at +5 levels over the Battle Alpha and you're fine. Of course, then control may become a major issue. If you don't want to go that route, go and change their BB strength and endurance to be higher.
  4. What is the Spray baton? I play a Shaper. Would I need it? Or I can trust my trusty cryoas and Fyoras to spray cold and fire for me?
  5. You can change the color version similar to the way the game changes the colors from fyoras to Cryoas etc.
  6. That is absolutely correct. If something else uses the Guardian's sprite or the agent's sprite and you change it, you change it for all.
  7. Why would anyone join the Obeyers either? (I haven't met them yet but I like free serviles, not disposable sentient things)
  8. Wait, when you say they're a forgiving society, if they turn hostile and then I return, would they be fine? Or it requires a long time before I am forgiven? As for stealing that wand, which I plan to do and haven't yet, the game practically tells you to steal it.

  10. Another thing is that essence mastery as you said gives 10 essence with which you can boost Just two creations to+1 lvl. I would have a large party, friend. So essence mastery doesn't give me more bank for my buck but I raise it because it gives me more creations. I think it's better to have +1 cryoa than to have 2 cryoas at +1 lvl.
  11. What this is about: Changing the size of creations. Do you want your Fyoras to be half the size of what's in the game? Do you want Cryodrayks to be 40% larger than Drayks? This is what you need to do. Example is with a Fyora. Edit: There's also instructions on how to change the color of the Player Character (for example changing the Shaper's robes to blue) in this post. First thing first, warnings: (1) backup your files first (2) Game data files/scripts and saved games that have been edited, using cheat codes or not, are unsupported. Spiderweb Software cannot properly support game files that have been edited in ways we can't examine or control. How it is done: It is quite simple actually. There's a stat in the GFitemschars.txt. It's called "cr_scaling " It does scaling, in percentage. Keep in mind that some creatures are already scaled down somewhat. Thadlings for example are smaller than Thands. In this example, we will rescale the Fyoras to be 60% the size of the original Fyoras. What we need to do, is put cr_scaling = 60; under the Fyora's name in GFitemschars.txt. Like this: // imported for all fyora types import = 0; cr_name = "Fyora"; cr_scaling = 60; cr_graphic_template = 150; The purple is the added line. Now your Fyoras would be 60% of the size. Keep in mind that there are some Fyoras in the game that are larger or smaller. You need to adjust them too. I.e. if you see cr_scaling = 90 for the Enraged Fyora, you need to change it to say 55 for it to be smaller than your Fyoras. That's it.

  15. First post-Demo post! Some interesting things in Ellhrah's keep. People there are as shocked as the Viakki ones about the Spawner. Ellhrah says he can't think who would have made such a thing. Well, based on past experience in GF2-5, Only the Takers would be that daft to start putting up Spawners. But the Spawners here are new, which means that the invaders that killed my Boat-Drayk*, just recently figured how to make use of such things. Still, I can't imagine why the Sholai that killed would put up Spawners so deep in Succia. Perhaps they have an alliance with the Takers? Questions, questions... (don't answer the question, please. It's rhetorical. I will find out in game). Speaking of the Takers, a few steps in and a Servile wants to help me to kill Ellhrah, before I even met the guy. The Takers are presented (so far) in a bad light. The Awakened were the first I met, that helped me and all. And all I hear from them is that Takers kill them and what I hear from the Takers is ... they indeed try to kill the awakened. 😕 Not the greatest defense out there, although I have not spoken with the Takers. And as mentioned I suspect the Takers are cannister-bribing the Invaders to put up Spawners for ... ? . * still best creation in Geneforge. The unsung hero that created the spark that lit the fires of the Great Rebellion. Regardless, this is a nice game. I am not too deep yet to make a verdict but I am glad I play it in the new engine and I really hope it will bring a new breath to the series because the story deserves it.
  16. A single line that is copy-pasted doesn't make a good mod. 🙂 Perhaps we could make a thread about modding GF1M similar to the one for GF5. That's already possible. This thread is about updating the art assets (green UI) with different assets (blue UI). I have updated the sprites for serviles in GF2-3 with those from GF5 for example. Or Mike Prichard changed the art assets (Fyoras) with his own personal project (smaller fyoras). It is possible to put different sprites in there if you do the work in the right txt files. For example, You can get a giant spider sprite from here. Then, you "cut it up" in the right sprite files for moving, attacking, dying etc, name the new files appropriately, and add the giant spider in the GFfloorster.txt. Then you make an entry in the file for the creatures about giant spiders. In GF4-5 you can add them to the game using theKian's modding suite. In GF1-3 and GF1-M you have to figure out how to do it using a hex editor. But it is possible. If you know what you're doing, it would take a couple of hours to add giant spiders as monsters in GF4-5. If you want the player to make giant spiders, you swap out another creation the PC can make. For example, you could have the player make spiders instead of clawbugs or something. PS. The spiders are an example. There are more free sprites out there.

It does the trick. I changed Fyoras to up to 190% to make them big as dinosaurs and back again. It works. Keep in mind that there are some Fyoras in the game that are larger or smaller. You need to adjust them too. I.e. if you see cr_scaling = 90 for the Enraged Fyora, you need to change it to say 55. If you want your drayks to be impressively large, tweak them too to be 130 or something.

  19. No no! Do not assume it because I made an off-the-cuff remark without having even installed GF1-original. I am sorry I gave you the wrong impression. What I meant is that if you copy-paste the right images and tweak the GF1-original graphics to have the right sprites and the correct sizes, it should work - but I have not done it for GF1, or even checked whether it is possible. I have done it with Serviles for GF2-3 and for Battle Alphas in GF3 but never for GF1. Please remember that when I post here, I often post in a relaxed manner. Many (probably most) of my posts are not heavily researched with lots-of-thought posts.
  20. Got it. You have my sincere thanks. Dear Moderators: Could we have this mod added in the mod list for Geneforge 1 - Mutagen? (Not to mention that I think it works for the original GF1 with a bit of text editing.) EDIT: Going by the images at least, the "wobling" you describe is like 2 pixels. I thought I would have fun with the "drunken Fyoras" but it doesn't seem noticeable (again, going by the images, have not put it in the game yet).
