  1. One way to find the switch is to use the 'u' command while in the northeast corner of the tower (outside the chamber with the talking statues.
  2. The emerald is certainly convenient and limitless. But there is one use for the pool near Formello. If you really need both the Cloak of the Arcane and the Ward of Elements and you don't have the spells and don't want to use scrolls you can get the Ward in the Castle and take a boat to go to the pool near Formello without entering any towns or forts. It is tedious, but I used it for the Spectral Commander once when I was low on consumables.

  4. It's in the Shattered Fort west of the Tower of the Magi.
  5. The drake with black fangs is outside on the northern shore of the lake with the Giant Boats dock.
  6. Actually, Taoism was founded by Lao-Tse (or however they are spelling his name these days). Not that that matters at all. It might be fun to see how to map the factions onto the Marx brothers, with Zeppo being the Sholai. Or maybe not. Did I mention that I hate Mondays.
  7. From your description I assume you are in the Final Gauntlet. If that is the case then to the south of the bridge there should be a secret switch which opens a path for a wheel for you to turn. Once you do that you should be able to pass.
  8. The giants have some boats you can use, but you have to kill them to get to use them. You need to get a key from the Giant Castle either from the Boatmaster or the Overseer. Then you can open a gate to the east of the Castle, kill the giants in your way, and head north to the dock with the boats.
  9. But Skatha isn't the leader of Gnass. He's the blacksmith. Sss-Schai is the chief of Gnass who gives you the mission to raid the fort north of Emerald.

But realistically any opponent would have had to start the process of getting on the ballot far before now in order to force the incumbent party to hold caucuses and primaries. Even when that happens the incumbent president usually crushes the opposition. The last time I can recall that it was more than a formality was in 1980, where Jimmy Carter and Ted Kennedy had a tough primary battle. Carter had a majority of delegates, but Kennedy refused to concede and at the convention there was a "Draft Muskie" movement. Before that in 1976 Gerald Ford had a tough battle with Ronald Reagan, but of course that was a bit different in that Gerald Ford was never elected president or vice president, and so was incumbent in name only.
  11. ...and then return to the island that ends the game, and discover how this time it won't.
  12. Yeah, I could have included CCR in "Heard it through the grapevine", but it seemed too many artists and it is the version I like the least. If you haven't heard it, do yourself a favor and at least listen to Gladys Knight and the Pips' version. It is a lot different than the others and really rocks. And speaking of CCR: Nina Simone/CCR - "I put a spell on you" (Screaming Jay Hawkins) And another trio I just remembered: Bill Haley and the Comets/Elvis Presley - "Shake, Rattle, and Roll" (Big Joe Turner) Although for this last, I actually like the original best by far, with Presley's take a distant second. (The same goes for "Ball and Chain")
  13. A few more (showing my age I am afraid): Elvis Presley - "Hound Dog" (Big Mama Thornton) Janis Joplin - "Ball and Chain" (Big Mama Thornton) Janis Joplin - "Me and Bobby McGee" (Roger Miller) Marvin Gaye/Gladys Knight and the Pips - "Heard it through the grapevine" (Smokey Robinson and the Miracles) The Platters - "Smoke gets in your eyes" (Gertrude Niesen) Talking Heads - "Take me to the river" (Al Green)
  14. One way to find those really annoyingly hidden switches/corpses/containers is to use the 'u' command. All visible switches/corpses/containers will now have a letter next to them, which you can type to move your party and access them.

  16. For the Chevyn's ring mission, any platinum ring will do. The particular platinum ring in the Castle is in a barrel. Go to the door that leads to the the stairs to the cells, go through the door, take the door to the right, and the barrel will be to the northwest. You can continue the game after finishing any of the main quests, but you also have the option of ending the game by escaping to the outside world after finding the exit.
  17. Quote: Speaking of which, some rats took one of my presents, tried taking it throught their little rat hole, couldn't fit it through so they left it behind. Wierd thing is they only ended up taking the wrapping paper. Well, rodents use things like paper for their nests, so maybe it was only interested in the paper. Perhaps doing some holiday decorating for the home.
  18. For the barriers you need a ritual from Khoth. For the fountain you need to find an annoyingly hidden switch after getting through the barriers.
  19. Other than those Randomizer already has mentioned, there are a few other easy ones to clear out: Scout the Sliths: Since you already have completed The Slith Menace I assume you wiped out the slith island fort SW of Cotra. In that case I assume you have the slith plans (if you don't they are in a chest on the second floor) so just go to Rosie and get your reward. Intentions of Kyass: Pretty much just go north to the Freehold, talk to the guy, and return to Houghton. Bargha's Library: Just head north of Fort Saffron to Bargha and visit the library (it's in the first floor in the back of a shop selling scrolls and stuff). There is even a portal so you can quickly go back to X and report success. And while you are there you can go do The Scimitar as well. And for the Graymold Patch I don't think you have to give him any Graymold, just let him know that the patch is there. Another tip: Turn in the Anti-Poison Brew before the Aranea Fangs, since Aife in Fort Draco will take all of the Aranea Fangs you have in your inventory, whereas the guy needing the fang for his brew will only take one. If you turn in the Aranea Fangs first, remember to drop one so you can turn in the Anti-Poison Brew afterwards. I don't know the difficulty level you are playing, but you probably could handle Savage Gardening and The Walking Dead based on character level. EDIT: Oh, I didn't notice the two character party. Savage Gardening is probably OK still, but maybe not The Walking Dead.
  20. It is not a bug, though it is a bit confusing. The level you get at the Aranea spell-web will only count toward the first two levels you get and can not be the third level. You get the third level somewhere later on in the game.
  21. Excellent advice, Vent! Here are a few more tips: Summons as a rearguard: Sometimes you will run into ambushes where opponents are generated all around you, or cases where enemies' reinforcements come at you from the rear. One way to protect your fragile spellcasters is to have them generate summons to keep the opponents at bay. Summons in the doorway: A slight variation on Vent's advice to use weaker opponents as protection is to put a summon in a doorway. This allows you to use missile weapons and spells, but you can also cast cone spells through the doorway without killing your protector. Yo-yoing tough melee monsters: When the front is completely blocked, melee opponents will often try to circle around and hit you from the rear. Sometimes you can use this to your advantage by letting them circle for one turn, then knock a hole in the line. The tough melee opponents tend to move early, so the next turn they will see the hole and run back to face you. But usually they won't make it all the way back and another weak opponent fills the gap, so they circle next turn, and so on. Watching the boss triggers: In the boss fights, many events are scripted by boss HP triggers. Some of these triggers generate summons, and if you cross more than one trigger in a single turn, you could be faced with a lot of summons. So it is often better to cross one trigger and deal with the summons before dealing serious damage to the boss. Give your meat shield scrolls and crystals: It may seem more appropriate for your spellcasters to have these items, but it is often profitable for your dumb ox to have a few as well. Many of the offense scrolls affect nearby opponents, and no one will have more nearby opponents than your meat shield. The damage they do is weak, but when you hit a lot of opponents the overall effect can be great. For curing/buffing scrolls and crystals, having your first character use it means that everyone else benefits from it immediately. And remember since using these items only costs 5 APs, you will usually be able to use one and attack as well.
  22. Quote: For item collection quests where the number isn't specified in the quest description if you have more of the items than needed to finish the quest in your inventory the NPC will still buy all of them before telling you that they don't need anymore. Not sure that is true. I went into Spire toting 33 ales, I got the mission and sold them, but was left with 3 and told the mission was complete when I tried to sell the rest. I also bought 83 bottles of wine in Almaria and tried to sell them to Bill and only was able to sell 40 of them. Note that I had already sold a substantial amount of wine (but probably less than 40 bottles) to Bill by this point. So the way I think this works is that if you have any left to sell, you can sell up to the maximum total for the mission in one go, but no more. So if you have sold < 40 Wine to Bill in Fort Draco, you can sell 40 more in one go, but that is all. So in reality you can sell up to 79 bottles of wine or 59 bottles of ale if you plan it just right. In early betas it used to work like Randomizer said. This was abusable, particularly back when Bill gave 20 gold per bottle of wine while one could buy an arbitrary amount of wine for 19 gold per bottle in Almaria. I bought over 300 bottles of wine in Almaria and sold them all in Fort Draco, making a profit and gaining half a level of experience for my level 18 party. Since the Jeff seems to have tweaked it.
  23. Yeah, I love the summon porcupines (summon pets + spine shield) ability of the Shaman. Do that, use the porcupines to pin down the baddies, and heal, heal, heal. The more the baddies hit, the more they get damaged.
