  1. I have heard of an issue with the newer Spiderweb Software games (Avernum 4, Avernum 5, Geneforge 5) where items don't show up in boxes, cabinets, etc. In other words everything is totally empty around you. Unfortunately, I've heard that it's a corrupted save file that's to blame, and the only fix is to go back to an earlier saved version of the game. I'm sure if you search around you might be able to find the other posts about it. I hope you don't mind killing the podlings again!
  2. Darkdread, you should also make sure your video card is up-to-date with the lastest drivers. If you go to your video card manufacturers website there should be driver downloads available, make sure you have the latest one. This helped someone who had an issue with the Avernum series of games, so maybe it can help you as well. Is 502 mb what you have available for your whole system? If so, you might want to upgrade to a 1GB of memory later on, as having less memory can make your computer slow sometimes.
  3. That sounds like a lot of work, why would they move it when they can just keep adding articles to one they've been working on for awhile? Why don't you just make a definitive one that has all the articles from all the wikis? Oh but then you would be redundant.
  4. I went and made an strong comment to the people asking how to get the game for free. I'll probably get some interesting messages now.
  5. I don't get the point of this thread. I find it hard to believe that people who have put time and effort into creating these Geneforge Wikis are going to listen to you and just take down all their hard work just because you tell them that it's redundant. Seriously, why would they listen to you or care what you think about their work?
  6. Ah, of course! Well it would have made a nice theory.
  7. Was Elner the one who lived that you find injured in Softport? If so, maybe that was still him. Crushed by his failure at exploring the surface, he turns to a life of crime on Avernum's frontiers....
  8. Alright, I just opened up Avernum 3 to test this out. Mode: Easy with Standard Party with no customization. The game opens with me in the little room. I equip the weapons and go to find Animaxander. After getting the quest from him to go and explore the surface, I equipped the weapons in the storage room and went straight away to the surface. Fought the obligatory slimes that you see leaving Avernum, and then went straight to Krizsan. After telling me that his job is a nightmare, I ask him why, he tells me about the slimes and I got the quest. My reputation was level 20 (neutral) which is what you start the game with. Therefore, your reputation level is not why you didn't get the quest.
  9. That doesn't sound right, why would the a quest in the demo section of the game need a certain reputation? Unless you've done something to lower your reputation? Or maybe you didn't do some things in Upper Avernum before venturing out onto the surface. Anyways, definitely check with the mayor once your reputation goes up a few points, maybe you'll still get the quest.
  10. First, did you go through all the conversational options with Mayor Arbuckle to get the slime quest? Second, are you sure you finished the Slime Quest? It doesn't finish in the Agate Tower, it finishes in the Slime Pit near Colchis. If you've done all that stuff, then I don't know what to tell you....I'm not good at editing the program to add "Stuff Done" flags. You might have to use the editor or restart the game.
  11. Ah, I see what you were thinking. However Strout is rather an unusual name to just think up out of the blue like that. That was my reasoning.
  12. Slarty, did you read my post about the servile named Strout in G1? I guess you don't think that's a valid reference as it wasn't added to the list.

What does being heartless have to do with it? It's only a game. I think people restart the game because Harkin's Landing goes hostile after you kill the drake and they run into problems with getting the bracelet to Tranquility.
  14. Yes, but if the town is angry at you, does that mean Carmine is angry as well? If he attacks you on sight, you can't get his help with the strange metal.
  15. I think if you visit a couple of towns and wait for a couple of days to pass they get over it. If they stay mad, you might have to use the character editor to make them nice again.
  16. Why don't you send it to someone that already has a geneforge website and they can host it for you? Great walkthrough, btw, I can see this will be really helpful!
  17. You're very welcome, glad I could help! Have fun playing Avernum 5, if you need help check the A5 forum.
  18. Wow, what a great post! It's obvious you've thought a lot about this. I'm one of the ones that like Exile 3, but it is for nostalgia reasons as it was the very first game I played from Spiderweb Software. To be honest I haven't played it in awhile, I prefer to play the Avernum games (all of them) instead.
  19. I always like the Blasted Vambraces. Here's a list of stuff you can get crafted in Melanchion's Keep: Crafted by Helft: Putrified Gauntlets = 5 × fine leather + 1 × demon’s bile + 4 × focusing crystal + 1 × eyestalk + 500 coins; Blasted Vambraces = 4 × fine steel + 1 × demon’s bile + 4 × focusing crystal + 500 coins; Wand of the Inferno= 1 × eyestalk + 1 × demon’s bile + 2 × focusing crystal + 500 coins. Taken from the Avernum 5 Gazatteer.
  20. Yeah, I checked the Avernum 2 book of secrets and it doesn't mention Cave Lore in the buyable skills section.
  21. You should be checking the Avernum 2 Gazatteer, they are an invaluable resource for listing shops, towns, stuff to buy, quest items, etc. http://www.anthonygoreham.net/text/a2-text.html Just do a find on the page and see whether Cave Lore is mentioned. Edit: Nevermind, it does not show where to buy cave lore. But it's still a good guide. I find the Avernum Gazatteers always helpful, and there's one for each game.
  22. I hung on to my stash, but I don't think I had used it all up at the end of the game. I also had items crafted that I would turn around and sell, they brought in some good change. I know there's a crafter at the end of the game that makes some nice stuff. If you don't mind some spoilers, check out the Avernum 5 Gazatteer. It lists the crafters found in each town and the items they make. http://www.anthonygoreham.net/text/a5-text.html
  23. Yeah, because you're not banging into walls / walking through walls like you do with the secret areas in A1-A3.
  24. Right, I think of them more as secret areas that appear, like Randomizer said, when characters tell you about them. For instance to get the Vahantai box from north of Fort Emerald and bring it back to the castle. And I believe there is the secret passage by Fort Saffron, but I could be wrong.
  25. I have a widscreen monitor too, could we also view the game in a window? Mind you, that would put the empty space on either side.
