  1. It's item #295. No idea about save edits, but you can edit a script to give yourself the item. First, locate the scripts folder - where it is depends on your platform and probably where you bought the game. Then, locate the dialogue script for a friendly town that you are in or is near you. Town dialogue scripts start with the letter 't', then a number, then the name of the town (possibly abbreviated), then 'dlg'. So the dialogue script for Formello is called: t1Formellodlg (possibly with a .txt extension) Make a backup copy of the script. Seriously. Do this. Open the script (with a text editor of some kind), and locate an easy to access dialogue node. If you tell me which town you're near, I can recommend a specific one. Dialogue nodes start with "begintalknode". At the end of the node, append the following code: code = reward_give(295); break; Save changes. Then trigger the code by talking to the person in-game. Each time you do so, you will get one focusing crystal. Or you could repeat the reward_give line to give yourself multiple crystals at once.
  2. It's not about carrying the weight as regards mages - the term "encumbered" is a bit confusing, since it's also used for when you are carrying too much weight and lose AP as a result, but this is different. Any piece of armor or gear that comes with a to-hit penalty (5%, 10%, whatever) counts towards total mage encumbrance, regardless of weight. An encumbered mage is unable to cast spells. The base threshold is 5%, which is like a bronze helmet or a pair of heavy boots, not much. Anything over that and the mage is useless. You can raise the threshold by choosing the Swordmage trait, which adds 10% per rank, allowing you to equip more/better armor, even shields if you raise it high enough.
  3. You forgot nephil pirates vs. slith ninjas. Or is it the other way around?
  4. Not the same. On normal, most worm things are fairly trivial to beat even in numbers (ice excepted), but stumbling across 3 giant slugs meant a world of misery.
  5. His office is in the barracks by the west wall.
  6. It used to be that you could target any mapped space, even if it was in another room, as long as you couldn't see an enemy on it. There could be an enemy there, as long as you couldn't see it. Now you have to be able to see the spot you're targeting, though if it's empty there's no range restriction.
  7. In my first playthrough I forgot to go after the rats under Ft. Draco, so I missed a bit of xp there, but in the second, I invested more in CL, and I think I might have had fewer outdoor encounters. Other than that, nothing that could have made much difference. All doable quests done.
  8. Okay, this is not exactly what Slarty requested, but it is a data point. I gave every member of my party of four both XP traits at the first opportunity. Luckily, I had a convenient save of a previous party just before the Dark Waters for comparison. Result: an extra 909 xp for all four characters combined, which is an average of 227 each, or about 1/4 of a level by that point. It may not sound like much, but it was the difference between hitting level 10 before or after confronting the hidden ogres. The fact that I didn't have to use any consumables in that fight this time may be partly due to that, and partly to the fact that the second party consists of all casters.
  9. At least in CS, a dual attack gets two separate to-hit rolls. IIRC, missing one attack in AEFTP meant missing both.
  10. And as long as you can still use the keyboard to pick up items - by selecting a letter which could be 'i' or 'g' - it's still not going to happen.
  11. On the plus side, both of those spells are ones I can live without the third level of. But who knows what else is out there?
  12. You have to train Spirit Claw to level 6 to unlock Spirit Charge.
  13. I think in Avernum 2 you lost a point of rep for doing that. Not sure if that applies to CS.
  14. Or the nephil who posed for that picture could be a victim of FTR (Feline Toe Rot), caused by a fungus that flourishes in the damp environment of Avernum. It would explain why he looks so angry.
  15. Assuming it's the same in CS as in EFTP, you can theoretically get as many extra AP as you have ranks in gymnastics. Each rank gives you a separate 10% chance of an extra AP. If you have two ranks, you have a 1% chance of getting 2 extra AP each round. The odds get better as you raise the skill, obviously, but they're never going to be great.
  16. Love the new crystal soul sprites, floating above their pedestals.
  17. They're actually throwbacks to the original Avernums 2 and 3 (not sure if they were in Exile). They were dropped starting from A4. I was soooooo hoping they'd be brought back for the remakes. Yay!
  18. Apologies, Superba. In my version, it is literally impossible to attack a friendly character. That's a bigger bug than the anomalous spider. I wonder if you can flagrantly steal in yours - we can't.
  19. Right, but what Slarty was saying was that that question doesn't come up in Crystal Souls at all. You're just not allowed to attack friendly characters, period. So are you in fact playing Crystal Souls, or something else?
  20. If you had read the text carefully, you would have seen reference to the empty boxes. Reporting the find to the quartermaster, not the captain, fulfils the quest.
  21. Here's a minor boo-boo: Apparently Caius was supposed to give me a shield, but he gave me a Wisdom Crystal instead. I'm not unhappy about that, but I was momentarily confused.
