  1. Actually, it was sort of implied in Nethergate that the GIFTS came from Avernum. Though obviously that makes no sense.
  2. If power-gaming, you're absolutely right. But presumably the game is balanced to be beatable on Normal with a sub-optimal party. One thing I really like, new starting positions for outdoor encounters. The box formation is hugely superior to the line.
  3. Actually, there is a Priest spell called Move Mountains, and the matching scroll called Stoneshatter, that can break cracked walls and certain boulders. NOT all boulders, though, so save before you spend a scroll. There will probably be some visual clue, that is, breakable boulders will look different than unbreakable ones, but I haven't come across any yet, so I can't tell you which are which.
  4. Which does less damage than the steel spear. OTOH, the steel spear is almost overkill in my slith's hands atm anyway. On normal, I've encountered little so far that he can't one-shot. I'm sure that will change. In other balance notes, Cloak of Curses seems to have gotten an upgrade. At least it seems to go into effect a lot more often. And I notice that the early spell tomes have much lower AL requirements than was typical in AEFTP. Guessing this is to encourage people to actually put some points into AL instead of waiting for Sage Lore.
  5. Well of course. The point was that if Jeff wants me to behave morally, he shouldn't put so much temptation in my path.
  6. This made me smile. Oh Jeff. If you didn't want us to steal, why would you leave a Gleaming Dagger, steel shortsword, and steel spear just lying around in Boutell's forge?
  7. Yeah, the missile disciplines are pretty useless. Slarty improved them in his mod, and Jeff was cribbing some ideas from that, so hopefully they'll be better in Crystal Souls.
  8. Keep in mind that many of the threads in this forum are about the original version of Nethergate, rather than Nethergate: Resurrection. Both Nimble Fingers and the inability of Celts to wear body armor are features of N:O that were not included in N:R. And the scale is around the back of the building where the dragon's lair is.
  9. Any mod can change the topic title. What would you like to change it to? Oh, and I found an alternative avatar for you: In other news, when you search Google images for "ball of spiders", about half of what you find is edible. The other half is... also probably edible, in a reality that is too horrible to contemplate.
  10. Congratulations, Nalyd, have some cake. If it exists, there is cake of it. If there is no cake of it, it will be made.
  11. Call the Storm is slightly cheaper than Lightning Spray, but you're probably going to need your priest to be mostly healing and buffing rather than attacking. The best strategy is not to get mobbed in the first place. In outdoor encounters, Daze (level 2 or better) and Slow are will reduce the number of hits you take each round; summoned pets are good, especially shades. Actually, the ensnare effect of level 2 Daze, combined with Call the Storm, can give you good control of the battlefield if you can get your priest positioned right. But on higher difficulties, outdoor encounters with large groups of sliths are going to be brutal no matter what. In dungeons, you can advance slowly and carefully, trying to draw them off a few at a time, using the terrain to your advantage. Try to get the fighter(s) to do the majority of the damage, and protect your casters. Withdraw as needed to return to town and recharge. If you have a high-Dex missile character, they can draw attacks as well, since they will seldom get hit.
  12. Welcome to Spiderweb Software, Rugila, and please leave your sanity at the door. We need it more than you do.
  13. IIRC, all you get is the word "encumbered" briefly appearing over the character's head at the start of its combat turn.
  14. Can't really help you there, I just wanted to say... I choose to believe that the mouse is sitting on a tiny whoopee cushion.
  15. I would be very surprised if his situation wasn't resolved one way or another in Avadon 3.
  16. :puts mod hat on: Let's keep it civil, people. That includes not accusing people of saying things they didn't actually say, and preferably easing up a little on the condescension. Or in other words, discuss; don't escalate. Nice thread you got here. Shame if anything happened to it.
  17. Not that I know of, though you'll find some interesting tidbits here. Some of that is the same, some different. Let's see... Shamans still suck in Avadon 2. Though perhaps not quite as badly. As Valdain sort of mentioned, Dex got nerfed slightly because it was OP for evasion in Av1, but you weren't using dex-based characters anyway. I think the biggest change is the addition of a new class, the Tinkermage. Which rocks.
  18. No, they never go away. There are plenty of hammers to be found in Ft. Draco, I believe. Probably some in the Nephilim fortress. I think I remember one in the Bandit outpost, and you can steal one in Ft. Duvno if you're really desperate. Really they're all over the place. You'll find dozens of them when you're not looking for them anymore.
  19. Well, the Empire rules the surface world, and they use the vast underground cave system called Avernum as a prison colony for criminals, malcontents and misfits. That's you. Beyond merely surviving in the harsh environment, while fighting off an assortment of monsters, bandits, and Nephilim (cat-like people also exiled from the surface), Avernites have several major obstacles: 1. Slithzerikai - These intelligent but savage lizard people are apparently native to the caves. They were here first, and for some reason don't want to share their scarce resources with invaders. They mostly express this reluctance with pointy sticks. 2. Demons - This is more of a long-term threat, but in addition to the usual assortment of imps and such, there are some seriously bad demon dudes down here, who would be only too delighted to kill you all for their own amusement. The powerful mages of Avernum seem to have these guys more or less contained. For now... 3. The Empire - Seriously, what a bunch of jerks. First they throw you down here with nothing but a dagger, not caring whether you live or die, then they still try to boss you around and manipulate your leaders. Okay, so they're not so much an immediate threat, but it sure would be nice to get back at them somehow...
  20. Very important if you want to be a Heart: Don't sass Redbeard! He has no sense of humor.
  21. Most spells can be obtained for free if you're patient, but it's probably too late for that now. And yes, you'll be missing out if you don't see the ending. If nothing else, there's one uber-powerful item you haven't seen yet.
  22. It's in Selkiehome, 3 corpses by the water, just NE of the chief's room, as Ishad Na said. I believe there's a key on one of the bodies, but I can't remember which.
  23. I searched the for an item or ability that would function like an Avernum-style wisdom crystal - that is, just give more skill points - but it hasn't been defined in the scripts, so it doesn't exist in the game. Unfortunately. But I can see why Jeff didn't include it; skill points are worth a lot more with the skill tree.
