  1. Does it say anyone can do it? I always assumed it was more like a rare talent than only some people possessed.
  2. I'll assume the Rawal ending involves you doing his quests and simply not joining anyone else. Would the unaligned ending basically be killing every single faction leader including Rawal? I'll save that one for a rainy day.
  3. Well, that Fyora in the picture Dikiyoba posted still exists when you die, despite what you may think it's 'supposed' to do I'm not sure why you think that, as I don't think there are hardly even any examples in the game of any Shaper's creations dying upon the death of their creator. I also I don't understand why you assume the PC is different from every other Shaper with this whole link to creations thing. Other Shapers invest a lot in their creations just like you do, like Guardian Makar, and his creations also continue to live even after he dies. As for releasing creations, this is just something Jeff didn't program (your own army of rogues was too much I guess). I think you should be convinced by the fact that other Shapers make loyal creations all the time that they either release or even give to outsiders (who can't use essence) to control. I believe that essence link is only there when the Shaper is exerting extreme control over that creation and when he chooses to he can release the creation at any time and replace that essence again.
  4. True hardcore players do five complete playthroughs, one for each faction. Is there an unaligned ending in this game? Or a Rawal ending?
  5. I still have to humble disagree with you, Alorael. There is simply no evidence to suggest that your creations are any more reliant on you than are rogues in the woods. I believe their complete obedience comes from the fact that you are concentrating so much essence into controlling them. And I also note that when you die, they continue existing, which seems like pretty good proof that they are not as dependent on you as you seem to think.
  6. He will wait for you patiently by the Northern entrance to the Hatra Ruins.
  7. Nice research, the Lurker. Though I must disagree with you on the golem point. The new game, at least, says multiple times that golems are in fact a living creature within a stone shell. I get the impression that they're a lot like heavily modified living tools or something.
  8. Even if you cheat and have 30 mechanics skill, some doors will still require a living tool or two to open. Generally, these are doors that you can find a key to at some point (that one clawbug mine for a quest in the Storm Plains is one that comes to mind), but there could be exceptions to even that rule.
  9. Got your answer here: http://www.ironycentral.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=120160Post120160.
  10. Ah, did you only do the lower part of the secret tunnel? Once you pull the lever, another tunnel opens up directly North of the new exit. There you will find a drayk that is the true disrupter of the tunnel.
  11. Thanks Randomizer. Any word on that door to the Southeast?

  13. Try spelling it 'dang.' That version appears in my dictionary widget, at least. It doesn't even say it's slang!
  14. I just checked an Shaper Andrace is right. There is a strange door to the Southeast that is not one of the repository vaults. I don't know how to open it either.
  15. I'm no expert but... wouldn't changing your appearance also change the appearance of all the characters in the game that use the same graphic as you? (I think I had this problem once before, with an earlier game, perhaps an Avernum.)
  16. The golem will let you by if you have a key, but you can just fight it and enter anyway if you wish. You can explore pretty much everything inside except for five locked rooms, all clearly labeled with signs outside of them. Like Thuryl said, you need those keys to get in and they are available only much later and only to certain factions. The first key I found was... Click to reveal.. From Litalia. Do the quest for her to kill the Trakovite hunter and her next quest will be to go to the repository with a key that she gives you. Edit for the Ratt: No, I believe they can all be reached by different factions, though the one I describe in the spoiler is actually available before you even join the respective faction.
  17. Just so you don't need to ask later, you can't get to Illya Province when you reach the Southeastern border, either.
  18. Go south of the entrance area, avoid the patrolling soldiers. In a corner you'll see a rock sticking out of the wall. When you approach it, the passage wall will open up.
  19. That sounds like a bit much, Uber Unbound. I do believe, however, that people have posted what they called text dumps on these boards in the past. It wasn't very organized, but did provide a way to quickly search the scripts all at once for information.
  20. In the Geneforge folder, you'll see a folder that is called "Genforge Files" and in that folder in the "Geneforge Scripts" folder. You can browse the dialog in the game using these, though it isn't terribly efficient. You can also use these scripts to alter the game if you know what you're doing.
  21. Astoria responds better if you have a high reputation with the rebels. I found this a bit disturbing, and I felt bad that I had to work for the warmongering rebels for the majority of the game in order to get her more peaceful ending. I imagine I'll feel the same way when I go for the Trakovite ending. Jeff really should have had those factions require a neutral reputation, you know?

This might be a stretch, but when you die one of the older Geneforges, the screen shows what I assume is your fyora burying what I assume is your body. Very considerate of the little guy, no?

The cost to shape is exactly the same as the cost to maintain. Unfortunately, that's exactly what I think. Look at spawners, they are able to create creations indefinitely because they have absolutely no control over them. Use some goo from the pool to make a creation, gets some more goo, repeat. Then look at Guardian Makar from Kratoa-Kel... Click to reveal.. He struggles to fight you under the fort because the game says he has to also concentrate on all the creation in the fort above him at the same time. It definitely takes a lot of concentration to maintain creation loyalty. Especially if you are a true Shaper like he was and you value control that much. Considering the massive amount of control the PC has over its creations (drakons even!) it makes sense to me that it keeps all that essence capacity tied up. It makes sense that the amount it take to control would equal the amount it takes to create since, if you have total control over that creation as the PC does, your are still using all of that essence.
  24. It helps to hold tab sometimes. It shows you the name of everyone currently on the screen.
