If he's not already, try setting him to "administrator" privileges, just to see if this is the case. - Archmagus Micael

Once you have a newer version than 1.0, any future patches you may need can be installed as any normal patch would be, but this one does need the v1.0.1 install minimum (the full download will be your only option). - Archmagus Micael EDIT: MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP YOUR SAVES FIRST, ELSE YOU WILL LOSE THEM!!!
  5. Pyro, I put the file up here on my site for personal ease, but it won't bother bandwith or anthing like that if I host it permanately for you (gotta be better than that thing you're using. Just tell me if you want to use it or not. Pyro's Trainer: http://micael.tamarvalleyart.com/spidweb/Avernum/Avernum_4_Trainer.zip - Archmagus Micael

I personally love the new engine with everything being more or less on the same map. No more listening to stupid fanfare when I enter a city for example. I have to agree. I know it sounds awful, and I relaly like the old Avernum system, but I surprisingly loved Avernum 4 (except for the Lightning that isn't lightning). I ordered it a few days ago, and am just waiting for JV to see and then email me the code (darned weekends). So, apart from a few graphics issues, which I'm sure the spidweb boards have enough voluunteers to fix, I think Avernum 4's one of their best out. Not quite THE best, that's still got to be Exile 3 (my first) or Av2, but still good. - Archmagus Micael
  8. I thought Vahnatai were tall and spindly, yet the Something-Boh guy I killed in Motrax's cave was larger than a slith, both heightways and sideways! Also, which picture is the one with the "lightning" spray on it. I can't seem to find it (windows version) but I want to change it to something more lightning-like. Thanks, - Archmagus Micael EDIT: I nearly forgot: I'd heard that the cheats were practically the same as in GF, but I don't now how to heal and energise myself using them. i need that for when I really can't be bothered to walk all the way to a friendly town past an area I've already completed. That the problem with no "rest" funtion!
  9. Guys, Since I've now got half-term I was considering finishing off ETS. However, my BIG problem is dialogue. I just can't seem ot make dialogue work - ever (as anyone who's played UV can tell). Is there an easy-to-learn dialgue guide (not the cookbook or the docs) that someone stupid like me might be able to use. Also: What is the POINT of INTRO? - Archmagus Micael
  10. Okay, I'm playing the Forsaken, and have got two real questions. One isn't as important, but the other is. 1) WHO is the murderer in that town near the beginning, and how do you Confront them? 2) Is there a way into the waterfall maintenance place in the west part of that HUGE city (gosh how I hate that city)? Magic map says it's barren, but magic map didn't help in the Spine one bit, so... Thanks! - Archmagus Micael
  11. I doubt they'd put BoE as open source, but if they madeit open-source to a bunch of designers who want to upgrade it, but let JV still sell it, it would benefit both the community and JV. I still playBoE, even though it's outdated, but, like others, I think a patch (or totally re-done version) is well in order. - Archmagus Micael

They probably exterminated any threat to them a long long time ago. - Archmagus Micael
  13. Quote: Originally written by Spidweb: I was out of town, so I was slow getting back about the chitrachs. Like those great-looking chitraches (I couldn't imagine playing Avernum and fighting Clawbugs). Perhaps we could have a few more character models? I've read that there are so few of them it's like playing Exile 1. (or worse) - Archmagus Micael P.S. Could someone email me the graphics for Avernum 4 (only a few of monster + character). I'd personally love to give it a try. The only problem is I can't download the pics for teh game etc.
  14. Ah, Okay. That clears a few things up. One other thing though: will this NPC stay with the party in Outdoor combat, or will it just simply fail to appear? - Archmagus Micael
  15. Quote: Originally written by Thralni, chicken god prophet: yes, it can be done, you just didn't look closely enough in the docs. Look in "NPC's joining party calls." Adobe claims npcs don't exist anywhere in either of the docs. I'll redownlad the docs and see if they have it. Perhaps my verion got corrupted somehow. - Archmagus Micael
  16. Guys, I've been looking for a way to get certain npcs to join the party (if the party has a free slot). It's kinda like those people in A2 who join (Becca or something). My only problem is - I don't see it in the documents. Is this capability even in BoA? Thanks, - Archmagus Micael
  17. I am working on the Emerald Tortoise Scale still, but I had to stop because of massive schoolwork, and the fact that my dialogue scripting sucks. However, it's holidays at the moment, so I'm planning on carying on. I mean - with only the dialogue to play with, I'm nearly done - and then there'll be another of my scenarios around - hopefully a far better one than UV. So yeah - I'm around a bit, and will work on it as I can. That means robably a LOT of posts on help with the dialogue. - Archmagus Micael
  18. Guys, By any chance could any of you mac users who have the game (us win lot can't ) take some screenshots of the Game and then post them up here. Just any old screenshots at random places in the game would REALLY be appreciated. I just really can’t wait – and the pictures on the main site haven’t been updated yet! – Archmagus Micael
  19. Personally, I found that simulacrum and summoning were the most effective. I would just simulacrum a few Vahnatai Warriors to hurt the "GINTS", while blasting the Giants with Divine Thud/Firestom. If there were too many Giants for this I would use summoning spells, and THEN the above. - Archmagus Micael
  20. Like Thralni said (ish): Have you gotten a newer OS (like Win XP), or have you installed any lrge programs lately. Also, you could just try re-downloading your graphics drivers. Or your screen res might be too high (eg 64 Bit. - Archmagus Micael

This works fine as long as the next state in the script is the state you want to run next. But just to appease you, I've added a completely pointless set_state_continue and break statement. Thanks! I was wondering whether it needed a few of these: { or not, but I always thought the game refered to those as parenthesis, not brackets. Anyhow, I think I'll leave it without the break in, just cause it looks nicer like that. Thanks! (until my next evil problem). - Archmagus Micael
  22. Quote: Originally written by Thralni, emperor of Riverrod: Yes. After every ending of a state, no matter if there's a set_state_continue call, there should always be a break. That's what I normally do, but Thuryl's code seems to do it differently, so I thought that I might as well do it as Thuryl's example shows. As it is, I think I'll just have to wait for Thuryl to post a reply anyway. - Archmagus Micael
  23. Ah - Thuryl, The game's now whining about a while loop not having a bracket. Also, should there be a break or not before "beginstate 11 (in my caase 29)? Thanks! - Archmagus Micael
