  1. I started looking through that really long topic, then I gave up... I'm running Vista Ultimate x64, so if it is still broken its in the Win32 Build. - Archmagus Micael
  2. Hey, While trying to clear all items using the latest 3d Editor Build on Sourceforge, it just brings up the remove special encounter call (which doesn't actually clear the special encounters if you say yes). However, it doesn't clear up the items either. It's not an end-of-the-world issue, but you still need to know about it . - Archmagus Micael
  3. As far as I recall the Avernum3 Prefs files are the same between the versions. Just copy out your prefs file to your desktop, install the newer version, and copy your prefs file back into the Program Folder. - Archmagus Micael
  4. Yes you should, as you can only buy skills up to a certain level. After that level, only rewards, books/tomes and canisters can increase your skill. EDIT: Alo says I'm wrong, so I may be on this case- it's definitely that way as far as I'm aware in the prior Geneforges however. - Archmagus Micael
  5. In that case, you could also say Erika's name came from hurricanes, if there's a link to Linda there; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Erika Quote: The name Erika has been used for three tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean where it replaced Elena in 1985 season. 1991's Tropical Storm Erika - lost tropical characteristics before passing over Azores, no damage or casualties reported. 1997's Hurricane Erika - came near Lesser Antilles but turned away. Drowned two near Puerto Rico. 2003's Hurricane Erika - weak storm that caused two deaths by flooding in Mexico. The Erika storms are kinda weak though, so I don't know if they really suit the character. The timing for the first hurricane should be about right though, if it was a name he heard at the time (I recall Erika being mentioned at least in name in A1- presuming it was the same in E1?). Also, I can't remember all of the characters off by heart, but here's a list of retired hurricane names, maybe someone recognises a character there? (that is if we're looking into some being based off of Hurricanes). - Archmagus Micael
  6. I don't know, I'm with Nikki on this one, the demo just felt really short. I've pretty much done all I can in the demo now, short of breaking into the repository. And I may do that before I buy it. If only the exchange rate wasn't so bad right now. But so far the game is really good, though maybe Jeff should open up an area or two more- because as Nikki said, we've only got an 1/8 of the game now, and if I hadn't already followed the series, I'm not sure how hooked I would be. As it is though, I think it's time to start saving. - Archmagus Micael
  7. So far so good, except though I'm not sure yet where the big difference is in starting as a shaper or a rebel, as you're pretty much treated as a rebel anyway. And I can't wait to get that control tool out of my chest so Rawal can feel the receiving end of my spells. Believe me, I want him dead. - Archmagus Micael
  8. Well considering that in Geneforge 4 you play a character (in my case the rebel version of an agent) who has been through the Geneforge, you can say that you have survived "modification" pretty well, and kept a pretty good hold on sanity (at least if you take the shaper path, dunno about the rebel path). On a whole children have been left out of the recent spiderweb games, though both the Exile and Avernum Trilogy, as well as both Blades games (and I'd guess the original Nethergate too) have had children in them, but Randomizer probably has it right with Jeff not wanting/ not feeling it's worth the resources to have children in the game. Resistance to mental abilities is probably also due to personality traits as well as any hereditary ones, certain personality types may be more susceptible to going over the edge and powerhungry, while others may have a strong will and a strong set of morals (hence they stay somewhat sane). And back to the notion of kids, whether their sex drive was inhibited or not, or if mutually-beneficial marriages occurred, I doubt they would be able to have children. Whatever changes have been made to their DNA I would guess to be somewhat significant (suddenly having it within your DNA to shape a creation involves you having their DNA stored somewhere within yours in one form or another), and we all know that if the DNA is radically different (as in the differences between different species) then reproduction does not occur. Therefore I'm guessing that two canister-users would have significantly incompatible DNA, therefore by this logic not so much rendered sterile, but that there would be no other individual within their 'species' for them to successfully reproduce with. Just a few thoughts. - Archmagus Micael
  9. Yeah, I'm pretty sure. Keeps giving me "Sound Error B", whatever that means... - Archmagus Micael
  10. Which versions of windows is the new open-source BoE meant to support? The program itself runs on my copy of Vista without needing compatibility, but the sounds don't. - Archmagus Micael
  11. Couldn't you just have an SDF called when they step onto certain spots outdoors, and allow the portal to teleport to that specific SDF. There'll be a limited number of places the party'll want to teleport to anyways isn't there? EDIT: Sounds pretty much like b doesn't it? - Archmagus Micael
  12. If I remember right, there's an "items" file in each save folder (Windows). Whether it will let you copy it over and work I'm not sure. Just back up your save and try- I would do but my only save is endgame. And if one of your files is corrupted, there's a chance that other file in that save are corrupted. How far into the game are you? If you're before theose annoying swamps (halfway or so), then you might want to just consider starting again. As a precaution, I always save two copies of my game every time, saving on one then the other as I save (that way I'm never far behind)- one save in the first slot, then one save in the last slot). Hopefully just copying over the items might work though, though you'll lose all the items you have lying around then. - Archmagus Micael
  13. Well, I'm giving it a go, though knowing my luck I won't get it. Pity too, as now my exams are over I have nothing else to be doing with my time. - Archmagus Micael
  14. Haste and Avatar. It worked in both E3 and A3 (though you use Arcane Shield in A3). If they can't hurt you, they're not a problem. - Archmagus Micael
  15. Hmm. I made it to 122, before the Artilas swarmed me. Great game- any chance we could get a highscore system in it- or won't it work because you're hosting it on imageshack and have to use a text file or something? - Archmagus Micael
  16. Have you tried re-downloading just to make sure it isn't a corrupted file somewhere? - Archmagus Micael
  17. In the screenshots, there seemed to be stairs, cliffs etc- the usual elevation. Has this system gone back to the old Avernum system- where we can walk off cliffs and hurt ourselves etc? - Archmagus Micael

Though I just went for a Wingbolt in GF4- they're almost on par with fire creations for their combat abilities. (Magic are normally "artillery" creations (powerful ranged attack and weak melee), Battle are "punchbags or meatshields" (strong melee but no ranged), with fire being a combination of the two). - Archmagus Micael
  19. An Infiltrator with a Wingbolt is just fun though. You can do amazing damage, and really crank up on the defensive spells- meanwhile doing lots of offensive damage to just about anything that moves (Mass Energize)- you can easily dish out 500+ damage to the right enemy per turn. - Archmagus Micael
  20. Well, so long as your character wasn't wanting food at the time it would be okay. Ofcourse, as soon as you tried making ornk dishes, I guess it would start hurting. - Archmagus Micael
  21. Even though it mroe often that not crashes my silly XP machine, I play when I want a decent scenario. - Archmagus Micael
  22. Is this Exile or Avernum 2? If Avernum2, you can just enter the SDFs in the editor, if someone knows what they are...? - Archmagus Micael

But remember that temple in the ghost town? The shade directs you to a room that contains a very old shaping platform, leading to the suggestion that the Shapers might have originated on the island! Looking at the events of Sucia Island would be very interesting, and could give palyers an entire new world to visit. Those old Shapers had to be very powerful, and probably far more advanced, than the current Shapers. Reminds me of one of those old Armageddon films where we blew up the world and our descendants lived in the dark ages again. - Archmagus Micael
  24. This is Jeff's world, and while I'm sure he may appreciate the fact that there are people out there willing to give him ideas, this is his playground. If you want to help give ideas then do so, by all means, but I severely doubt that he will pay them any attention (there are legality issues amongst others). If you have loads of ideas, by all means transfer them into a scenario for BoE/BoA, or give them to a scenario designer if you don't want to do them yourself. Or make your own game with your ideas... But leave Jeff his own world, please. EDIT: And if you are going to give ideas, at least make them legible. - Archmagus Micael
  25. I prefer 4 customs. A Fighter-Priest, an Archer Mage, a Cleric-Mage, and a Mage-Cleric. Add in Divine Touch on all of them, give the fighter Elite Warrior, the Archer Beastmaster, and the Mage/Clerics Natural Mage... For some weird reason they just don't get close enough to me to really hurt... Can't imagine why though . - Archmagus Micael
