  1. Maybe they were buggy, but the conveyer belts were way more cool than the mirrors and laser beams. It was a particularly nice touch they way they shepherded you into the furnace in the middle. I ♥ Exile.
  2. I do wonder how it is that we know what pronunciations were like 500 years ago. It's not like there were tape recorders around then.
  3. Trenton, now that you have destroyed all 4 power crystals, you need to make your way to the topmost level of the Tower of Shifting Floors, and destroy the mind crystal (which is powering all the golems), that's how to end the plague. Edit: A bit more explanation, you remember the floor with all the conveyers, there's another level above that. That's where you need to go.
  4. You keep mentioning a third crystal; make sure you have destroyed 4 crystals in total, as it would be shame to waste all that effort. They are approximately equally distant and one each located North, East, South and Weat of the Tower of Shifting Floors. ASCII representation: Code: North Crystal (enter via passage from ToSF) | | |West Crystal Tower of Shifting East Crystal(need Orb of Floors (Zalifar (in woods)Thralnai) tells you location) South Crystal (in woods)
  5. Agents have 2 extra points of dexterity, and that cancels out the cheaper cost of missile weapons skill.
  6. Do let us know how you get on in the ToSF. It's a long while since I've been in there...

  9. Actually, the map works the same way in A5 & A6. The difference is the color of the unexplored areas is, unfortunately, the same color as the plain terrain, so in areas with few features there's not much difference. Be grateful, in Avadon the map became transparent and it's hard to even see it properly.
  10. You know you can have as many saves as you like, right? You can save under a new name every time you do anything significant, and keep a step by step checkpoint of your progress. It's a good idea to do that while you're exploring, a few times you might get yourself into an inescapable situation.
  11. For me, the ability to retrain your characters is actually one of the things that reduces the replayability of the game. That and the fact that all the playable characters are the same as the companions, so a single play gives you the chance to experience all the different skills (as compared to Geneforge, where I would adapt play style to use different skills dependent on character class). (At this point I was going to quote Alo's misspelling of his own name for posterity, but out of charity [not to mention goodly fear of The Power Of The Mods] I decided not to.)
  12. Ok. Back up. Reload the game from before you went exploring. You're not supposed to do that. After you get thrown into your cell, just walk around like 20 turns and a message pops up: "Suddenly you hear the door outside being unlocked. Someone outside says, King Vothkaro will see you now. Then you hear footsteps receding down the hall. You don't hear anything else." This is your cue to leave your cell, and walk north. You get given a piece of paper and returned to your cell. 'Use' the piece of paper to read it. You will learn about how the trogs really, really want to get a tunnel opened up so they can resume their favorite activity, which is fighting the hill giants. This is important info. Now you walk around your cell again for a few turns. Another message pops up: "The door is unlocked again. You hear someone on the other side mutter 'King Vothkaro will see you now.' and walk away." You go north again, turn west, through the doors into the Throne Room and speak to the King. He tells you to go and kill the Khazi (Elhioc). You return to your cell, 'Get' the piece of paper, 'Use' it to read it, and it contains instructions on your Khazi-killing mission. That ought to get you started.
  13. I can almost see the $$$ signs in his eyes. One of the things I like about Jeff, he's always been very honest about that part. (Plus he makes games that are actually FUN rather than ones that make you want to poke your eyes out.)
  14. So are you still stuck, or what? Sounds as if you already met the King (upstairs). He sends you to kill the Khazi (downstairs). To get to the Khazi you have to pass through a machine, which I seem to remember, was a puzzle involving stepping on squares in the right order and then passing through a secret door (there's ALWAYS a secret door). Have you got that far?
  15. Yay, congratulations Trenton on getting the full Exile III, having fun exploring the new provinces. Edit: Especially have fun in the Tower Of Shifting Floors
  16. They should call it beer, everyone knows what that is.
  17. I think it includes some of those demons that drain your spell points, so maybe you need to be a *little* cautious. But by the end game they aren't so tough.
  18. Q: You are a doctor? A: I am. Q: Qualified in? A: Practically everything.
  19. There really is no reason for the anvil spell not to be featured in an Avadon sequel.
  20. I'm going with option A, the ultra sophisticated spambot that both asks and answers its own question...

You have to watch it though because sometimes the rules can be perverse. For example in the UK, neither Corporation Tax nor Stamp Duty (on home purchases) work that way. Fortunately for CT, the bands are tapered, but for Stamp Duty your tax rate is actually discontinuous (gasp!).
  22. I've been running through Geneforge 5 again, this time as an Agent. It's stupefying to think that this resistance bonus apparently went unnoticed until this year. It's hidden in plain sight - there it is in the text area, every time the PC gets attacked. For example, I'm resisting 2/3 of everything the Unbound hit me with. The main vulnerability remaining is poison/acid, which makes it easier to plan my wardrobe at least. For Guardians and Agents this is game-changing. (For Shapers it should make no difference, as your creations take all the damage anyway.)
  23. Kilts don't predate underwear; we know from letters at Vindolanda that Roman soldiers stationed in Britain wore underpants. I would believe, however, that kilts predate the Scots' use of underwear.
  24. I understand EvilEye's frustration, many of us feel the same way about A4-6. However Jeff is concerned that new/casual players of the games accidentally wander into areas too difficult for them, die, and dislike doing that. It would be really cool if the 'linearity barriers' were switched off at higher difficulty levels.
