  1. Most of them are only hard if you are unprepared. I'm an extremely casual gamer, and I was able to beat all of the fights on normal after a single reload.

    Spiridon

Even after you get the quest, he still shows as armed prisoner. You need to speak to him and ask, "Are you Spiridon?".
  3. Ah yes, that's the one. That topic should be linked above.
  4. Did someone make a list of the medals and their requirements?

That was the idiocy. It left a gaping hole in security of personal computers, i.e. any program running under the normal user account had full admin access. It has always been recommended that users should log in under a non-admin account and only switch to admin when absolutely necessary e.g. to install programs. But few people ever did. So finally UAC was introduced as a way to address poor behaviour (by users, and by developers who got used to assuming all programs had admin access all the time). Now, logging in as an admin account doesn't give you admin rights anymore. Admin rights are only granted for specific tasks with the elevation prompt. (You can make it more secure by requiring password protection at the prompt.)
  6. Heh, that happened to me too...
  7. On windows, the map is accessible from the start menu (the icon called 'map of lynaeus').
  8. One potential gotcha is that, at a certain point, you are forced to rely solely on the combat skills of your main PC (with no aid from other characters). If you have been developing a passive character build i.e. all blessing, cursing or healing, and minimal offensive capability, then this moment will cause a lot of cursing.
  9. I'm not a lawyer, but the principle should be that the residual assets of a company when it's dissolved belong to the shareholders.
  10. It gets better later on when you have more abilities to choose from, then you can use 5 or 6 different attacks (tactically selected). At that point, if anything is still left alive, drink a recovery potion, then start again.
  11. The main reason to clean out the monastery is to get the knowledge brew recipe. (The other reason is for fun.) That's the most difficult alchemy recipe and only intended for higher-level characters. Usually I would do this one as a way of preparing myself for the golem quest, so that's quite a lot later in the game than the demo. Does Jeff still offer the Exile Trilogy CD-ROM? That was one of the best purchases I made. I.e. all three Exile games, for the same price as one more recent game.
  12. The price is less than a dvd box set (at least, over here) and entertains you for at least twice as long.
  13. To be fair, the confusion is excusable. Dragon sexing must be one of the most dangerous professions ever invented.
  14. Unless you count the dragons. Originally Posted By: steelytan A1 is just plain cool. QFT.
  15. You can still edit files in "Program Files" provided you launch your favorite text editor with the "Run as Administrator" option. (Right click on the icon, or is often quicker Ctrl+Shift+Enter when using Start Menu search.) If you want to edit the files often, it's more convenient just to give yourself ownership of the Avadon folder. This is easily done in the Security tab of the folder properties.

  17. Except that apparently the scarab icon is always grayed out for Tcheedchee. Which does sound like a bug, except that no one else is able to reproduce it. In my game I had the opaline scarab in one of my slots and was able to use it several times without any problems. (Pesky monsters... always charming my fighters... grrr)
  18. Apparently, that was only ever on Windows. Jeff seems to have removed that advantage now. But, to put in context, we never knew the exact health in A1-A3 and we survived all right.
  19. Then it sounds like it's system specific, maybe even a hardware issue. Whenever I've had regular blue screens (not Exile-related but speaking generally), it always seems to end up with buying a new component and/or reinstalling the OS You could try posting the system specification, in particular your graphics card model, and googling the same, just in case someone else has found a solution.
  20. So to confirm: your OS is windows7 64bit, you have downloaded AvadonDemo.exe from the spiderweb website (and not anywhere else), but it still fails to install? Assuming you have administrator privileges and there is a sufficiency of disk space & memory, it's hard to see what could be causing this. Can you post more details of your machine and its configuration?
  21. The versions you have on CD are out of date - Jeff released an update compatible with vista/win7. Download the new versions from the spiderweb website. Once installed contact spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com in order to register your games (give them the name & address from which you originally registered).
  22. I really liked this feature, it used to be so tedious in Geneforge having to work out how many spaces you needed to move in order to attack (especially with the old AP system).
  23. Are you sure you downloaded the right game?! Try downloading again anyway, it installed fine for me (on win 7 64bit).
