A:EftP - Too hard

This is fair, although I think it's also fair for the more experienced gamers to ask for there to be an option to switch off the 'fence' between zones. It could be turned on by default for teh newbies. -

Avernum: Escape From the Pit Announced

Ranting thread Counting thread - I'd forgotten this started out as a poll. -

So kudos to Alo for simultaneously attaining the upper bound of postage and the lower bound of spamage.

A:EftP - Freaking out over this game
Micawber replied to Death Knight's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2011-2018 remake versions)
I usually click to skip the splash screen and soundtrack. -
It has never been possible to shape during combat.

Avadon is the first game to have medals, in earlier games it really wasn't an issue apart from sharing saved slots (and even in Geneforge 1-2 with only 14 save slots my household at the time still managed to share among 3 different players!) For newer games, on Windows anyway, the saves etc are stored in the "Documents" folder specific to each windows user, so if your household uses separate logins then there is not a problem. Don't know whether this is the same on Macintosh.

Voice acting is warmly welcomed by actors because they don't have to learn the lines. This, of course, just makes the fan's antics referred to in the first post more ridiculous.

Originally Posted By: Actaeon Don't most of the older movies fit into the established chronology (perhaps not the right term in a time travel series)? Not quite. There were only ever 2 movies (the Peter Cushing films) and they were both remakes of episodes that had been shown earlier in the series, with William Hartnell. They really aren't regarded as part of the series. The TV Movie, on the other hand, was broadcast in 1996, seven years after cancellation of the original series. It was viewed as a pilot for a potential revival, and it does follow on from the old series in the sense that it explicitly shows the Sylvester McCoy Doctor regenerating into Paul McGann. The success of the TV Movie can be gauged from the fact that it was the last serious episode of Doctor Who until the new series began nearly ten years later. The new series does acknowledge Paul McGann's Doctor in various places (e.g. the book in Human Nature) so I guess we have to accept, however reluctantly, it does fit in to the chronology.

I hope it will be more like the Cushing films, i.e. actually somewhat good. I fear that's not likely though.

Quote: If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? This seems appropriate for the Drakons somehow. I wouldn't be volunteering to tickle one though.

I read 10-15 pages of a hardcopy newspaper on my journey to work, most days. As well, I have an online subscription to a different newspaper, which I read on my smartphone and on my office and home computers. I like to read some of the same stories from two points of view, if for no other reason than that it helps me to remember a bit more. The physical newspaper is nice from the point of view that it doesn't require batteries and is better for burying your head in, thus avoiding the need to interact with other commuters. I am also able to dispose of the paper at work, which avoids the drawback noted by SoT.

Avernum 5/6 and a precipitous drop in some skills at 10
Micawber replied to Brocktree's topic in Second Avernum Trilogy
Not unless he was just trying to mess with us Actually the best way to do that would be with the lookup table; if no pattern exists, imagine all the false leads when you try to find one. -
Yes, each item now only gives a chance of an extra action point, not a sure thing. Same thing for the haste spell, which no longer gives an extra attack automatically. Even with the stability suit, quicksilver bulwark and assassin's boots (that's +4 AP in total), I still got only 9 APs in some rounds.

The shapers will die - but in which order?[G5]
Micawber replied to Lord_Shaper's topic in Geneforge Series
Just kill first whoever you hate the most (for me that was Rawal). But bear in mind that after you kill the first councillor, all the shaper towns will go hostile, so finish off all other quests first, get whatever training you need, etc. The councillors themselves all have some gimmick (like pylons or summons) but they are eminently killable. I did most of them in using acid shower/corrupting baton; that was without creations, I think it would be even easier with creations. -

Perhaps someone can explain to me what exactly distinguishes suburban from urban. Because I am having some difficulty deciding how to classify my current address.

Just met Taygen. Can't wait to kill him.[G5]
Micawber replied to Jerakeen's topic in Geneforge Series
Yes, it works if you have seen Taygen's ending. I did it just for completeness; can't think of another reason why you would side with him! My first instinct on meeting both Rawal & Taygen is to want to kill them. Pity that joining Ghaldring's faction is the only way. But I actually like "his" ending. -
I thought we were sticking to Spiderweb games. Oh well. My recommendation is Geneforge - there was a similar thread only a couple of weeks back so see that for the reasons.

Try to get into a conversation about his temple, and follow up when he mentions the weather.

That depends upon your character and your playing style, I think. It is likely you will not be able to cope with the Unbound until after you have reached the lower map, so avoid them for now (i.e. run away when one approaches). Edit: I'm not saying it's not possible to beat them when you first encounter, just unnecessary. They are tough, but not unbeatable. But the game works perfectly fine if you avoid them to start with and then come back later.
