    Wow

Likewise I think I sent some USD banknotes in the post from the UK once, a long time ago. I think that's what the bank clerk recommended; for a low value purchase, the bank fee for getting a proper international draft or cheque would've been too high.
  3. I seem to remember it's command-click. Command, shift, option, whatever, its one of those.
  4. A few comments make it sound as if Mieville's books have no plot at all. Really not true. However the plot is much shallower than the surrounding context (to the point of being almost incidental). In a way its a bit like Exile1, or Morrowind, you can explore a lot of the world before the plot makes itself apparent... Edit: back on topic, what I am reading now is a book called In Our Time, (Melvyn Bragg), based on the radio series of the same name.
  5. My own experience was that, except in the early game, creations were just a burden (keeping them alive became tedious). I absorbed them and I ended up putting most points into strength and endurance to get a tank. I do think melee is most powerful, with lots of quick action. I think though it depends on the difficulty level. On normal, with enough endurance and the best armor you can ignore the attacks of all non-scripted enemies. Not so much on torment I think. Otherwise items are key. Things become easier once you get assassin boots as you get 2 turns quite often. Firesteel gauntless give you the ability to cast acid rain which is the most useful attack spell. Corrupted batons are also excellent. Buy, steal or craft as many rods of succour, alacrity as you can.
  6. I seem to remember that you can use the character editor to change the day counter. Seems a lot simpler than the other options. BTW it's not always exactly day 160. It's a few years ago, but I think I set the day to 160 and then had to wander around for 2-3 days until the event triggered.
  7. Trouble is, the way we are all conditioned after the last half a dozen games, no trainers = no point in money. The merchants would have to be offering pretty compelling merchandise to get me to buy it. Maybe if all the best items weren't available by searching pots/killing monsters...
  8. Well I finished slaying the Shaper council and decided to look for it after all. As well as the one Goldenking posted I found this. More.
  9. I loved those puzzles that involved pushing barrels around. </nostalgia> Oh! oh! and the moving walls were cool too. It's almost enough to get me playing Exile III again
  10. We did have this topic before, but I'm too lazy to find a reference to it. My answer is the same as before.
  11. Actually it means you made a mistake and he fixed it. FYT used without being sarcastic, which must be some sort of first for these boards.
  12. I miss Aran. Pied piper could have produced all sorts of funky stats. Off the top of my head, given the posting history per month for all users, I think some kind of EWMA could be used to measure oldbitude.

This topic went insane remarkably quickly.
  14. Exactly. Back in the days of Exile it was important to rotate your party members (especially the fighters) so that your #1 spot got shared out, to try and retain some balance. Also there were times when I needed to force myself to fight an entire battle using the priests' wound spell (sometimes that could take a while...). Happy times
  15. Probably not even Jeff remembers now. ISTR a few of the debug keys from Blades of Exile also work in Exile 3.
  16. not a speed issue, its more to do with the sheer size of the image (width x height) overflowing the browser layout edit the post and link to the image instead of inlining it

Induction works on well-ordered sets. Being well-ordered is completely different from being countable, although the natural numbers happen to be both. But uncountable well-ordered sets are much studied. The rational numbers in the usual ordering are not well-ordered.
  18. So did I miss the part where it was explained how it came to pass that Fort Haledon moved from deep within Vahnatai lands (where it was in Avernum 2) to become ruined at the site of Camp Samuels (from Avernum 4) which itself had improbably relocated across the Almaria river (compared to Avernum 2). Just wondering.
  19. No, you cannot use skillpoints for spells. You can either read a spell book or pay lots and lots of coins to a trainer (usually a priest or mage in a major town). The list of trainers is in the strategy central link.
  20. The way I have it, you have to talk to the inn keeper in Lorelei before speaking to Foxfire. Think that's her name (not a browser).
  21. Sorry, thought you were farther on. Go to the white/yellow mushrooms on the north wall. Then walk directly south. The stalagmite in your way disappears.
  22. Like the map says, the stalagmite is the key. Did you notice the 'Click' when you stepped on it? Walk into every wall.
  23. The map only helps when you are already in the cave (it's only a minor help, even then). The cave itself is the Remote Cave, in North-western Valorim (north of Midori province). Once inside, standard rules apply, i.e. walk into every wall.
  24. This was a 'novelty' feature that would've been more fun if we hadn't already had it (in Nethergate).
  25. Strong Daze. Unlike Daze, Strong Daze affects all visible enemies. They remain unable to attack you for several turns, allowing you to pick them off one by one. Unlike the later games, in G2 nothing can resist (not even major NPCs like Barzahl and Rhakkus). It's a total game-breaker.
