Kyshakk Koan RaustBlackDragon
I've heard a lot about blades of exile and blades of avernum, and they sound absolutely awesome, but apparently my computer can't run them Has Jeff said anything about whether or not Blades of Exile/Avernum will be remade along with the main trilogy eventually? That would be AWESOME.
Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
Blades of Avernum nearly sent Spiderweb bankrupt, so the official word is "no no no no no no never again".
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Jeff has expressed no interest in a new Blades or even fixing the current Blades of Avernum. The sales numbers just don't justify his time. Sure he could release the editor he uses to write games, but then he would have to spend hours on fixing bugs that beta testers catch and writing documentation. Anyone that beta tests knows how much Jeff hates writing documentation.
Easygoing Eyebeast Xaiya
I run Blades of Avernm just fine on windows 7 with compatability mode switched on for it. Although if you're on mac, then that info is worthless.
Magnificent Ornk nikki.
Blades of Avernum runs just fine in Windows 7 without compatibility mode, too, for what it's worth. I even got Nethergate working on my computer without having to use compatibility mode, so it seems as if it's just the Exile Trilogy that won't run. Easygoing Eyebeast Xaiya
I suppose it does, huh. Don't know why I set it, then.
Easygoing Eyebeast keira
CBoE should run fine on any windows machine, no compatibility mode. Please provide details on your machine.
Understated Ur-Drakon Tyranicus
The latest Mac version of BoA and Tridash's Intel Mac BoE build both work fine on Mountain Lion.
Unflappable Drayk Death Knight
Blades works just fine on mac/pc of both my mac and pc with the good old games version. I don't think its on there, but whatever you do, avoid steam at all costs.
Well-Actually War Trall Harehunter
Blades of Exile runs perfectly on my Windows 7 (but I did load the 32-bit, not the 64-bit), no compatibility mode needed.
Ineffable Wingbolt BMA
Yeah the only problem on the Win7 32-bit was not being able to easily view the help file - you've got to download an additional something from Microsoft.
Ineffable Wingbolt Mosquito---Slayer
the official word is "no no no no no no never again". That makes me curious for the unofficial word.
Well-Actually War Trall Harehunter
I don't remember having to do anything to see the help files. They work fine here. I even checked my archives and I see nothing that relates to the help. But then again, I have slept since then.
Easygoing Eyebeast Enraged Slith
That makes me curious for the unofficial word. I suppose if Jeff started getting a lot more business and there was a large call for it, he might consider it. Maybe a simplified version of what BoA was, if that's even feasible. This is true, the file in question that reads these is WinHlp32.exe. I guess MS removed it because they didn't want resource bloat, and a program smaller than 1 MiB was really taking up space on that DVD win7 ships on. In any case, BoE docs are also available in the SVN or online here. There is an in-progress project to start including a PDF version of the documentation online (among other things, see the BoE forum for details. BoA has docs included in both doc and pdf, iirc, and all the good third-party docs (like the cookbook) are also PDFs. Harehunter
Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
Maybe a simplified version of what BoA was, if that's even feasible. That's BoE, really. —Alorael, who does not think the unofficial response is fit to print in a family-friendly forum. Especially since Blades was almost famliy-unfriendly enough to get in the way of feeding children.

Maybe they wanted to inconvenience users with the old help files so that the developers would create newer versions. cunning old microsoft
