Ineffable Wingbolt MMXPERT-seraph of thermodynamics
and this glitch applies to ALL of the games (except avadon, maybe) increasing the skillfor missile items does NOTHING,gems and staves always do the same damage in ALL the games. And no, I am sure, when i noticed this, i rigged up cheat engine and set the skill value to 2000, it STILL didnt change the damage inflicted at all. Beware,do not invest in missile item skills. Understated Ur-Drakon Sudanna
Why would staves be affected by missile weapons?
Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
Gems, staves, rods, scrolls, wands (with one exception) and the like are not affected by any skills in any Spiderweb game. Bows, thrown weapons, slings, batons, and crystal wands in Nethergate are. That's by design. —Alorael, who excepts Blades of Avernum. That lets designers make anything into a weapon based on any stats. There is, in fact, at least one wand he can think of that is a standard ranged weapon. (It's not based on throwing or bow skill, though.)
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Changing skill values to 2000 also can cause you to exceed the limits on table look ups or in some game where Jeff uses a small word for the integer variable go into negative complement giving a wrong value. Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
Geneforge 1 did claim that Dexterity and Missile Weapons increased wand/gem damage. This was presumably an error in the documentation.
Hatchling Cockatrice ex post slarto
G1 (and a few games after it, I think) had a number of errors in the skill descriptions. Most egregiously, the game tells you to make a fyora at the beginning, and it tells you to increase its Dex because Dex increases damage for "missile-based creatures like the Fyora." Except that Dex doesn't increase damage for any creation attack ever, Strength does.
Seasoned Roamer Xazo-Tak
Wait, you thought that would work? Lol. That's like increasing magery expecting to get higher melee damage. If I were you though, I wouldn't use wands at all, I'd just learn the spells. And I prefer the fury crossbow to any number of blessed javelins. Well-Actually War Trall Micawber
Several times wands/gems have abilities for which there is no equivalent spell. There is also a significant difference in AP cost. Ignore them at your peril.
Ineffable Wingbolt Erebus the Black
IMO the only useful wand is the wand of alacrity, the other wands just don't have enough of a punch.
Well-Actually War Trall Micawber
Corruption Baton, Wand of Succor, Wand of Death are all worthwhile. In certain games, items are the only way to get speed effect, acid spray, diamond spray, mass madness, etc.
Easygoing Eyebeast Trenton.
What about the disipline wand. It killed all the creations I used it on with ease. I think I killed a spawner with it once with one blow
Magnificent Ornk Student of Trinity
Which game, and which difficulty level? If I remember right, discipline wands were deadly in G1, but almost useless thereafter.
Easygoing Eyebeast Trenton.
It was in geneforge two. I always play on easy and it was the first spawner you fought. After going out of the west gate of the first populated town you visit then go a space down youl be in the rouge HQ. I took it out with a disipline wand
