Since a fair few people have seen The Hobbit recently, I found this pic this morning.

On the other hand, spending ridiculous amounts of money and time just to bring that one asteroid might not necessarily drop the price of gold and platinum straight away. One factor of the cost of producing anything is how long and how much it cost to produce and or acquire the resources.

The moon and Mars' higher gravity would make construction and livability a lot easier, as well as Mars being a lot closer to more asteroids for mining.

How tall would be built? There isn't anything can really you attach it to. Fuel is part of any form of propulsion or locomotion, or any sort of motion. Improving the propulsion would not only help go a wee bit faster, but also fuel efficiency would come into it somewhere. Less fuel needed plus faster engines, anyone? Patience with jetting around space is fine if you think you can live for 2 or 300 years.

It would be nice if they cane develop a decent propulsion system while they're at it. It seems and awful amount of fuel is used just to get out of atmosphere, and once in space it takes months, sometimes years just to get seemingly small distances.

I seen The Hobbit the other day. So far, it's the only Lord of the Rings movie that I liked and didn't fall asleep watching.

I just misread the quote in that last post as "I stabbed my toe". Was confused.

I would like to take part in another AIMHack, since the only one I was involved in was sadly cut short. Although lately, I haven't had the time since my newest job involves 12-15 hour days, including a tiny bit of travel time.

I got to sit in my room and drink all day, for lack of anything better to do.

If someone has sufficient imagination, then they could possibly come with a few variations. All within reason though. You have to consider some sort of balance. As a brand new shiny party you aren't going to fighting in the Ragnorak or anything, so generally you aren't going to have anything to strenuous to fight, nor are you going to have overpower armour and weapons to start with.

This I can agree with partially. It is extremely difficult to get a gun in the first place due to licencing laws in Australia, and they are never sought after as something stupid as "self defence". It's that million year old right to own a gun that is getting people armed to the teeth and scared silly in the first place. It's that ridiculous that if someone has a rock thrown at them while sitting on their front balcony, that just "have the need" to own and AK-47 for "self defence", and all because they have the right to. Its the same mentality that people can just walk into K-Mart, buy all their ammo and then go rampaging. Whatever you do, stop winging over nothing.

Never trust a computer you can't throw out the window. On that note, throw yours out the window and find something more useful. I heard hammers are pretty useful.

If that was the the case, Thuryl would have 2 geese, one for the apocalypse and one for Christmas. I'd love to see what she does for New years.

I can understand the hunting thing. There's a few guys I work with that do it when they can. Although they do own a couple rifles, they are still dumbfounded at how anyone could bear themselves in the U.S to walk into a school armed to the teeth. As for self defence, you don't need a weapon. I did Taekwon Do for about 3 years, and since there were always kids attending the classes, we were always told that running away is your best defence.

I'll have to disagree with this. There's very little from the last 10 years that I like, and its seeming to get worse.

I could of sworn I heard something about it being today. Could of just been my imagination.

Wow, I musn't be paying much attention today. First Melbourne Cup (which I don't care about anyways) and this. I completely forgot or something about both until after it happened.
