  1. I believe you are referring to Dionicio. If you kill him, you will make the surrounding people upset, and he will not appear further, but no other consequences. He does play a very minor role near the end. You would want to join them because you believe the Empire has become weak and decadent and the powers that be are parcelling up the Empire and giving it to their enemies.
  2. This area is pretty hard. Investing a little bit in endurance might be wise to up your HP a bit. Doing some side quests and raising your levels would be a good idea. A useful strategy is to have your fighters run up and try to engage the fire sentinels in melee so they do not use their ranged attack. Also, use slow and battle disciplines like shield breaker and leg sweep with impunity.
  3. If you did a frontal attack, you are bound to killing the Giant Queen unless you revert to an earlier save. Of course, you can skip this quest line entirely; it is optional.
  4. Thanks for posting that. I'll get that on the strategy central.
  5. Quote: People on these boards really need to start READING posts in threads before firing off replies. I suppose I am just telling the old timers what they already knew though, even though they completely fail to make these obvious observations over and over again. As for me...this post marks my last effort here. This place is far to unfriendly. Peace. Of course I am aware of this, I just did not think to write it at the time. Thank you for appending this useful bit. I suspect berating people for not giving the advice you would have given leads to the place being "unfriendly" for you. On this issue, if you have any instances where people have violated the Code of Conduct, please forward them to me. I am more than willing to help deal with that.
  6. No, the numbers are not the costs, those are the numbers of that skill you need to train in. The cost should (within 1 point) give you an estimate of how many of the skill you have trained in. A good way to find this is to draft a new party, go into the editor and train until the skill opens up and then go back and look at the cost.
  7. Those extra skills you gain from traits, items, or other bonuses do not count. The only thing that counts are skill levels you actually train in.
  8. Yeah, I do wish the Character Editor was not so hyper literal and allowed us to do more with the nice GUI. Although I suppose having the cheat codes is enough.
  9. Yikes. This fight is tough, but I do not recall it being that bad. First of all, what difficulty level are you? Secondly, are you using Shield Breaker, Leg Sweep, and Battle Frenzy in addition to Slow and the usual buffs?
  10. While having artistic value, I think I would prefer Jeff get the main storyline of GF 5 finished earlier.
  11. It should be possible to edit av5objsmsic to get some interesting difficulty/balance adjustments. Be careful with this because the things in here often affect both PCs and monsters.
  12. Quote: First I would like to ask...if you have nothing constructive to add to this topic, and only wish to poo poo the mere idea of modding, please don't bother to leave a comment. It adds nothing useful to the conversation, and only servers to derail this as a useful thread. You may ask, but I decline your request of enforcement here. Criticism of script editing is just as valid as posting how to do it. If that disappoints you, I apologize. Their right to post is as much as yours so long as they do not violate the Code of Conduct. All I said was that if script editing is possible and if one enjoys it, go ahead, but any losses in terms of challenge/gameplay are the fault of the person doing the editing. Quote: My next observation about the above three responses is that they seem to completely overlook the potentially wonderful applications of modding. The entire point of this thread was supposed to show how to go about modding certain aspects of the game with a fair amount of ease. Granted, the example I chose to post would amount to no more than a mere cheat, but that does not render the methods used, nor their potential outcome, necessarily cheats. If anyone were to bother reading the entire post you would notice the end of it, which hints at the possibility of creating a much more sophisticated crafting system that enhances game play. Indeed, many aspects of the game could be expanded by modding the scripts. I'm quite aware of the power of script editing, I've made several BoX scenarios, as have many others. Speaking of which, we have two powerful tools called Blades of Exile and Blades of Avernum that will allow you to write scenarios to your heart's content. I suggest checking them out. Anyway, I think most people are aware at what you are "hinting" at. To most people who have been around here a while, it is sort of obvious. Not trying to be dismissive or offensive, but you are telling us things most of us already know and have known for years. I'll discuss in detail what is and is not practical below. Quote: I have been taken somewhat aback by the prevailing anti-modding attitudes here on the Spiderweb forums. Every other game I have ever played, and that is many, that could be easily modded have been; enthusiastically, and copiously. Why are most players here so against a little script exploration? <---rhetorical question; if you want to answer, start a new thread please. I think I will reply here as it is relevant. I'll give a quick breakdown: 1) I don't think anyone is against script editing in general. Although it is a fine line to tread. There is this license thing that you implicitly agreed to when you install the software. Technically these sorts of things violate the license. Jeff, to date, has been okay with these things. However, some care should be taken here. 2) I agree that there are things that could be improved, as with anything. However, what you posted here would make the game "easier", but not necessarily "better". I think people are more dismissive of the former, but not the latter. 3) Part of it stems from the availability of BoX, as discussed above. So I think there is a lot of, been there, done that, syndrome. Quote: Just to expand on my point a little bit...with script modding: -You can add new quests. -You can create new items -You can create new spells -You can create a much better crafting system And, if someone with much better programming skills than I -which are nearly nil- it may be possible to: -Create new maps -Create new towns -Create new monsters -Create new graphics -Create new skills/attributes -Add enormously to this game we love -Etc... I just wanted to try to open up people's eyes to what IS possible. You're going to "open [our] eyes"? You underestimate us. :-P There are some things in the binary itself, no amount of coding skill will be able to edit those. Within the scripts, you have limited powers. You can potentially create new items and improve the crafting system. New graphics is fairly easy. New monsters are partially possible, but they would have to replace an existing class of monsters. The same with spells, although you are a bit more limited there. New quests, maps, towns, and skills are out because they are in the binary. Hope this helps!
  13. My thoughts too. However, I suppose that some crowds get a kick out of modifying the game. The way I see it is that it is ultimately their loss.

  15. There is the ability to edit posts to add content. Please do not triple post.
  16. You can put the question back, just put (SPOILER) in the title of the post.
  17. From my understanding, for each fatigue reducing item, you get a roll to remove a point of fatigue. So if you have two fatigue removing items, you can, at most remove 2 extra points of fatigue per round. I am not entirely sure how blademaster works, although I know it can remove multiple points, so perhaps there is a 5% chance of each point of blademaster of removing a point of fatigue.
  18. No, that is actually pretty good. 75% chance of fatigue removal means there is a 75% chance of removing one additional point of fatigue from using battle disciplines. Note that for multiple fatigue removing items the percentages do not stack, and each point is a separate calculation. It really is irrelevant, because unless you cheat, you cannot keep this sword.
  19. I know it would be more work, but perhaps putting in some flag to remove the quest from dialogue, quest log, and job boards after it becomes impossible to complete would be nice. I think this would alleviate a lot of the pain expressed while not having to bend over backwards trying to restructure a plot line.

  21. Energy is essentially electricity or lightning damage that you receive from lightning spray and related attacks. Many of the most crushing attack spells are of this form.
