  1. *checks forum header* Wow. I was right by accident. You'll have to use specials from the town in which the portal is, although you can use Call Scenario Special if you need extra nodes. EDIT: Okay, I *thought* this was in the BoE forum at first and it looks like I was right. Why was this topic moved to the BoA Editor forum?
  2. Scripts? Imby, this isn't the BoA forum. Quote: Originally written by Bard of the Soul: I have an idea in mind that involves a portal that the party must go through, but each time it sends them to a randomly selected location. Now, what I need to know is this. Is it possible to rig it so that this will work? If so, how many different locations can I squeeze in? I did exactly this in Hunted!, a BoE scenario that you can find here . There's no password, so feel free to open it up and take a look at how I did it. Among other things that it does, the cave entrance in town 0 randomly takes the party to one of 16 different locations within the town; it could just as easily transport them between towns by using Stairway instead of Move Party. The number of different locations you can randomly send the party to depends only on the number of special nodes you have available in that town, and on whether you're willing to go into scenario specials as well.
  3. Scenarios outside the Avernum world are fine. Most of the best BoE scenarios are only tenuously connected with the Avernum storyline, if at all.
  4. It'll speed up again once we see some really good scenarios coming out.
  5. You may need to refresh the screen.
  6. They're roughly similar, but don't expect to paste a script from one game into the other and have it work. Sorry.
  7. I doubt that your modifications to corescendata are the cause of the problems you describe, unless your text editor is doing something subtly bad. It sounds like BoA just doesn't like your computer.
  8. It might also happen if the stackable items are from different scenarios. Beyond that, I'm stumped.
  9. This will happen if one or both of the items aren't identified (or weren't identified when you first gave them to the character), or if you have a stack of 100 already. I'm guessing the former is more likely.
  10. I believe in one of the series Exiles, somewhere in Interchangeable Undead Crypt #36, you can talk to a spirit who saw someone change into a lich via a ritual.
  11. It's been done before in BoE, but be warned that SW refuses to host scenarios that replace core files.
  12. Unless you want them to help out in outdoor combat or something, it might be best to just tell the player via message that the group is travelling with your party.
  13. Quote: Originally written by Archmage Alex: I am planning to make a versatile party building utility. I started about 16 scenarios on BoE and figured I might actually manage to finish a utility. You'll have a hard time making one that's better than Kelandon's, but I suppose people can't be dissuaded from these things and it's good scripting experience anyway.
  14. Please don't. I'm quite sure one thing we won't need is more bad scenarios.
  15. Spies and strangers are neither mythological nor monsters, Alec.
  16. It's all explained in the documentation. Nobody is going to walk you through it, so just play around with scripts and learn for yourself.
  17. Quote: 2) The sneaky-stealth type thing. Have guards that, when they see your party, instead of trying to kill you set an alarm off. This alarm could either be instant end-of-scenario or just signal every guard on the floor over to you. This was done in Babysitting (although the guards try to kill you as well once they've set off the alarm).
  18. Alternatively, it's possible you don't have enough free space around the entrances and BoA chokes when it tries to place your characters.
  19. I don't think anyone can make debug mode work. It seems to be just plain broken.
  20. Just to be perfectly clear, this means you have to make items and characters in a text editor, not in the BoA editor. Have fun.
  21. Jeff still sells copies of the Avernum series. He would have you lynched if he found out that you were giving away remakes for free.
  22. There's no randomness involved either. If you can bash a particular door, you will succeed in doing so every time. Anyway, it tells you the strength of the door when you fail to open it. If it's 200, you won't try again.
