  1. I'm in Illinois for college, so I had to vote by mail. My return envelope was prepaid, although it said that some postage may be required for out-of-country mailing. At least, I hope that's all it said...
  2. As a Maryland voter, I am able to write in any name for a general election. There were also questions for ratifying appointed seats, in which I could approve a seat or not, but not actually vote for a candidate.
  3. You wanted to know how long it would take to get this one locked, right? Well, don't open the spoiler!
  4. Exorbitant. I don't think I've heard a person my age use this word, and I always get strange looks from my peers when I use it.
  5. I was in my social sciences class the other day, and we were talking about the natural tendencies of a two-party system. The candidates tend to go extreme during the primaries in order to win the ticket, but then they go as close to the middle as they can so that they can get everyone who is on their side of the issue. Thus, the two candidates end up being very similar on many issues. This is a problem for some people who care very strongly about certain issues. In short, I'm sick of having two people catering toward as many people as they can; I'd rather vote for people based on what they actually represent in terms of the issues.
  6. Self-fulfilling prophecies explain many superstitions.
  7. It's official - after reading that post, Alorael no longer sounds like a name in my head. Just gibberish.
  8. I cannot agree more with this statement.
  9. As that's about a block away from me, I may have to check it out. They have a Charlie Brown exhibit coming, too.
  10. You can still do it. You just have to do it manually. Testing... This was done by drag-selecting and copying the desired post, and then pasting it into the framework provided by the "quote" button. edit: and it doesn't quite work the way I'd hoped. Let's try multiquoting the various posts: This was done by hitting the "multiquote" button on each of the appropriate quotes, and then a little copy-pasting to nestle appropriately. So yeah, it is possible, but not nearly as easy, nor as much fun. I will soon master this technique. I wonder if there is a limit to the size of a quote pyramid. Yupp, if I embed the initial quote another layer deep, it says that I've exceeded the limit and it no longer renders the pyramid.
  11. I just noticed: when you quote a post with a quote in it, the initial quote disappears. IPB doesn't allow for stacked quotes! We can't break pyramids anymore!
  12. Here in Chicago, we have flood warnings near Lake Michigan. In a bit, I'll be going down with some friends to check out the 20+ foot waves. Sandy is set to collide with a winter storm, combining a huge storm with winter into an enormous winter storm. In other words, for those hit, there will be as many as three feet of snow.
  13. I remember that topic. I was confused by you having three accounts. Also, now I miss eph.
  14. Look at Nikki, trying on his new mod pants!
  15. Hooray! Congrats, Aran. Your spam has been successful.
  16. So is this form of necromancy better or worse than topic ressurection?
  17. Really? I could have sworn that, just recently, those two names were listed as aliases of TM! Where on earth do I come up with these misconceptions…
  18. So here I am, in my fourth week of college, when a friend tells me that she was "stalking" my profile pictures. "You like Spiderweb software, don't you?" It turns out that she had an account way back in '04. Does anyone remember Shards of Fire? We talked about forum lore, and I felt like such a noob! She had left before I got here, so she was familiar with TM, where I only know him from his ET and Sleeping Dragon accounts. It was all together a strage experience. For these past 5 years, I was convinced that I would never meet someone else who knew Jeff Vogel by beard, let alone someone from this community.
  19. Goodness gracious! With all these new moderators, we won't be able to set one finger out of line! Congratulations!
  20. I prefer Sylo, but I'm sticking with Spiderlicious, as it is currently the only theme that displays the topic in the post line (Thanks Sylae!).
  21. Obviously it's different using this forum than UBB. I knew how to do exactly what I wanted there, and I haven't bothered to figure out all the details of IPB. I don't think it's any worse, though. It may well be better. For now, though, it's just different.
  22. Congratulations Sylae! I'm really only making this post to try out these fancy new forums. Although it is awesome that you're a mod now. I'm sure you'll be a great addition to our team of overlords mods.
  23. There are a few members that have tracked the posting frequency of members here. It's no longer done or talked about on this site, as it apparently led to posting wars, which are in no one's best interest.
