  1. Shaping is a teachable art more than a super power. I would love to be able to do it, though.

If I do, then I can't see anything. Even if I say that light can still propagate, do I let other people absorb and emit light? If I do, then time is not totally frozen for them, but if I don't, I can't see them. You have no idea how glad I am to see that I am not the only person on this planet to have wrestled with these issues. I still want to find a way to make it work, though. And the internet. I need the internet to work outside of time. Plus, would we be able to prove the Arrow Paradox and disprove the derivative (calculus meaning)?

Are all you people that are against it also against telling people that you care? And of course, it isn't always nice being single when everybody around you is un-single, but you can feel sad/bitter/wrathful about that on any other day of the year (yes, people who are coupled do have every other day of the year too); it's just nice that there's a day where people who might not normally tell each other they care for one another get to do so. I had a friend say today that Valentine's Day isn't about being with someone - it's about loving. Whether you're in love with someone or not, you can still love people (in non-romantic ways). Today is just a great excuse to make sure that you let them know.
  4. The trick is that Jeff's games pre-Avadon are coded differently, so it would be a big pain to port them to iOS. However, all new games are planned to be ported for iPad, and there is a good chance that he'll start remaking Geneforge games in the next 5 years. It'll be a while, but your wish should come true in the future.

(Sorry if this is a tad late, but I used to make unsupported claims. I've been thrashed too many times to do it as much, and now I find myself demanding evidence for claims.)
  6. Also, it takes time before the games go on Steam. To get the game at first release, you have to pay Jeff directly. Plus, there are those of us here that will always buy directly from Jeff (unless that option is no longer possible someday).

  8. Just to make sure everyone knows, while Santorum and Romney were very close in Iowa, the actual delegate spread is 7-7-7 for Romney, Santorum, and Paul. People always seem to forget about him. Even Dantius ignored Paul in his list of GOP frontrunners, while including Herman Cain.
  9. I have no doubt that he is very smart. Still, 6 courses is 150% the normal course load. Even if the classes are easy, the sheer amount of time required seems overwhelming.

How do you plan to manage that?
  11. I believe Jeff said that he doesn't get unlimited free keys from Steam*, so there is no way he could provide them for everyone that purchases directly from Spiderweb. *He may have been talking about the MAS, or both.
  12. I certainly see the dangerous potential of an EMP attack. But if we go with Ron Paul and stop getting involved in wars that don't involve us in the first place, there would be far fewer groups that would want to attack us.

I stopped listening to Gingrich after the first debate, when he warned against EMP attacks. Also, the party of Lincoln began to lose it's way much longer ago that "recent years."

Silly point to make, since we are living in a limited span of time. The universe is going to die someday, but I should still do what I can to make my life enjoyable (blah blah blah, philosophy). If these bills do pass in their current or slightly altered forms, I intend to drive down to D.C., enter the LoC, slam a pair of scissors on the desk, and ask to see the Constitution.
  15. Rawal has spent years manipulating the corruption of the Shaper government. Any sort of destabilization would allow him to take control. Therefore, you must be either very cautious in your ending, or get rid of him. I get that no one really likes Rawal. Unfortunately, he's quite good at what he does.
  16. Kill him. There is one ending that allows for that. Certain Shaper endings should also leave Rawal out of power.
  17. I feel like SOPA and similar acts are sort of like bad DRM. All they will do is make things harder for those of us that do things the right way. The dedicated hackers and pirates will always find a way around the blocks. That said, I haven't done too much looking into the specifics of these acts.

  19. I figured I'd give it a try. I always have a copy of Win XP I can set up on a dual boot if it doesn't work well. The wrapper I found claims to work well, and my computer shouldn't have trouble running anything. I just have to wait for the end of this semester...

The best is the wrapper I have for Skyrim, once I buy the game.
  21. Wine and dual-booting are both reasonable options. Wine is free and doesn't require restarting your machine. Dual-booting is probably simpler. Wine can be a pain, but so is Windows. It depends on what you want. If Wine is easy and you only really want a few applications every so often, it's probably the way to go. If you intend to play Windows games for long times, dual-booting may be better.

First of all, the words don't look too bad, but the way she said it in a cold, annoyed voice really made my jaw drop. When she said it, we were having a good time, chatting about whatever came to mind around a campfire. Then the topic shifted to science, and I started talking about CERN and their recent neutrino experiment (and other weird physics stuff), which flew over the heads of... everyone else but us, I guess. Take her to CERN, nice skiing in the winter and good cycling in the summer. Then she'll let you spelunk about neutrinos faster than the speed of light to your heart's content. I have firsthand accounts that the more available areas of CERN are rather unpleasant. Just about all of the funding goes into the big fancy stuff that you can't see unless you work there. When my uncle was there for a conference, they all had to huddle around the outlet to charge their laptops whenever the room had power.
  23. I would imagine (I still haven't gotten around to playing) that the Dragons are verbal. Whether they explicitly state their gender, I'm guessing there are clues in their speech that could indicate their gender, if only to a limited degree.

  25. I suppose I should have been clearer. I meant what Soul of Wit said. Jeff doesn't want to do more work than he needs to. Jeff makes a living on these games, and spending another few days of programming a little tiny feature and making sure there are no bugs with it may not be worth his time.
