  1. You cast Far Sight spells in the wrong places. You missed a treasure in the extreme SE. You also missed a secret passage at the end of the eastern lava river, a back door into the treasure room. You should go to Gale, use Ernest's teleport if necessary. In the Lower Giant Caverns you will be meeting some really fun monsters called Dark Wyrms. To beat them I was using Invulnerability Potions and Elixirs.
  2. On day 1, Colchis has no human inhabitants, so it is destroyed from the very start. It has a few slimes but no shade in the hidden room.
  3. Near the altar with the quickfire, there is a secret door but it only opens when the trap has been activated. You missed two secret areas, this may impact your ability to finish the Bruskrud quests. Giant Forge is full of painful places as you will soon see... Your Mage could presumably cast Mage spells while wearing Plate Mail, given enough Hardiness.
  4. A3 Manual does not seem to say that Hardiness reduces your Encumbrance! There will be plenty of good and encumbering armor before too much longer.
  5. If you are looking for ways to offload money, the Xian Skull said something to the effect of "I hear Gale has a nice library". In the Lower Giant Caverns you will be meeting some really fun monsters called Dark Wyrms. To beat them I was using Invulnerability Potions and Elixirs. Their melee attack may be easier than their ranged attack but it is not easy to survive long enough to get close to them.
  6. Barter is a useful skill, it increases the money you get from selling items, see the notes in the topic "Avernum 3 - Skills FAQ (Rune Reading, Nature Lore, Tool Use/Unlock Doors, Barter)". One convenient way to use the Orb of Thralni to explore is to keep the Automap showing and access the Orb by the "Show inventory for (PC Name)" button. If you are about to drown on the next move because you went too far from land, you can use the Jewel of Return to save your party. There are two types of rocks in the water: one is a single rock, its graphic is the rightmost graphic in 750.bmp the other is a group of three rocks, its graphic is the seventh in 795.bmp. When flying you can't land on the first one. But you can land on the second one and then take off from it. Your flying range from the shore can thus be extended by the occurence of the second type of rock.
  7. With Ernest's teleportation hut you can travel to Gale. As you can't bring horses with you, this idea is for shopping trips not exploring the countryside around the city. Then you can use the Jewel of Return (or a Recall Crystal) to travel back home. Once you return, it is only a short walk to retrieve your horses from Ernest's hut. "This is denied you", there is no access to this room before you kill the Haakai. In the tower you missed a pool that gives you a point in Gymnastics. Vlog: Avernum Remakes have different game mechanics, this might make for an interesting discussion of how to actually play the remakes.
  8. With Ernest's teleportation hut you can travel to Lorelei and Gale. Then you can use the Jewel of Return (or a Recall Crystal) to travel back home. Some dungeons are not immediately accessible, you must find an item or pay someone to learn the location. There is an unexplored area north of the Inn of Blades.
  9. You missed something near Fort Emergence, in the map to the East of it. When your cash exceeds say 10,000 you need to find things to spend it on: spells, potions and skill training. Vahnatai Lore is an example of the last expenditure.
  10. Tool Use and Unlock Door synergy, it's nice but you get level 3 Unlock Doors without too much delay. To access the level 3 version before you get the Dispel Barrier spell, try using a Piercing Crystal or Scroll of Dispel Barrier.
  11. Mad Monks are tough but they can be beaten. Cast Haste and Radiant Shield on your party. Cast War Blessing on your front two members. Cast Slow and damage spells on Monks. Divine Restoration is useful for a lot of healing in one go.
  12. I saw no increase, in money obtained by the party for selling items, for 32 Barter, after I used the Character Editor to increase the scores.
  13. Radiant Shield is the best protection against petrification...
  14. I keep a Bar of Silver in my front PC's inventory. When party visits a given store, this enables me to check how good the prices offered for our items really are, default price is 111 coins. (Each party member has 5 in Barter.) I think Vahnatai Lore is checked by itself, so you must have enough of it or you won't learn the spell.
  15. Radiant Shield gives a lot of protection against charming and petrification. A3 has Eye Beasts and Gazers, you might want to give your front two PCs some spells. Monsters will then cheerfully keep blasting them with dumbfounding rays, sparing your spellcasters.
  16. Lennus and Squiggus are violently, murderously, racist. They are in the southeast of Valorim.
  17. Radiant Shield is just the thing if you are surprised by foes with magic, missile weapons or nasty melee damage.
  18. Original 3D Editor infallibly crashed whenever a port was attempted. Recent versions usually port BoE scenarios properly. They have a better porting function that is more helpful and accurate. Editors compiled under DevC++ may do funny things...
  19. Remember Jewel's True Site for Blades, the link is found on the main page of this forum.
  20. Are you on Mac? Check the Data folder, they should be going to a sub-folder in there. Examine the Bas file and make sure it is the correct size, check that *all* of the Exs file was ported. Original editor, Windows may have a Compatibility feature for that.
  21. You missed a few routine treasures in the Filth Factory, but nothing you really needed. When you return to the Fort you will get a surprise quest...
  22. In E2 and E3 you had a spell: Word of Recall. In the first Avernum trilogy you had an expendable Recall Crystal. In A3 you eventually get a permament item, the Jewel of Return, that returns you to the start, if you are not too far from the start. I tried to replicate the Return to Start function in my Avernum Templates, see: http://thelyceum.yuku.com/topic/1905/Word-of-Recall-spell-v10 You could only recreate the Return to Start function if there was viable A3 legacy code found in the BoA engine. I don't know if there is.
  23. BoA is very limited in some areas, this is a shining example. I can't get any closer than that, he will have to settle for that or drop the whole idea.
