  1. You will get a key, which you may not already have. I just checked the script, the beach is the place with the three bodies.
  2. He means the area with the three corpses, thieves who starved to death. This is just to the NE of him.
  3. Original Nethergate, she had 4 in Craft and 0 in Beast. N:R Rhian should have 2 in each! She can then cast Word of Recall if she gets a Craft Circle scroll. Carefully played, a Roman party should be alright with their lousy spell selection.
  4. 2,5,6 are rooms that are never accessible: they have no items, creatures or placed specials 4: one needs Key 5 and one needs Key 6.
  5. "1 - At the topmost center area of Under Goagh-Nar... I simply cannot figure out how to get there. Maybe it's Romans only?" It is state 24 in the relevant town script, it is only Romans only. "5 - The other locked chest, located in the small gray rectangular room just above the Eastern gatehouse (the oblongly-shaped maroon room just to the right of the path leading North from the very bottom. I assume this is also simply a chest that can be unlocked by the 5th or 6th key." States 31 and 32 are being called, they require Sylak keys 4 and 5 respectively. "6 - In the Upper Goagh-Nar (2nd map) it's right next to the Eastern staircase. " There is no way in, the two chests are both empty.
  6. It is a Celt-only Easter egg. If you are Roman, stepping on the right squares does nothing.
  7. Some of the level 3 spells are harder to find in A2 than they were in A1. A2 is harder than A1 sometimes. You will have tough fights and tough puzzles, as you will learn the hard way...
  8. That is the Test of Speed for sure... You can always come back later to do the Test of Battle, you are doing it voluntarily not because you need to. Other two tests are easy enough. Test of Battle can be passed without hassles if you use wise tactics. Stockpile wands, scrolls and potions. Make sure only one opponent can attack you at any one time. Bless, Haste and Shield yourself, if you can. Use healing pools. (You can flee at least some of the fights and still pass the test.)
  9. This was a problem in A Large Rebellion as I recall. It could come from issues with impassable terrain inside the town, near the town entry points. There could be a problem with impassable terrain in the outdoors, near the town entrance. Alternately the size/shape of the town entrance rectangle could be a problem.
  10. This is the set of maps, presented in the form of a BoA bas file: http://www.freewebs.com/ishadnha/BoANethergateResurrectionData.zip Open "Resurrection Shared Data.bas" in a BoA 3D Editor. You will find the first placed special at square 21,10 in outdoor zone 0,3.
  11. He should not need to do the three trials because he did three substitute actions on the way to Vahnatai lands.
  12. Preset items, those placed in towns, can be edited to give them unique properties. There are 500 canonical items. An item with a "(+)" after its name is simply a canonical item which has been altered to give it a unique property. Town preset items in BoA have 8 Bytes each but in A3 they have 10 Bytes. A Spell Tome that gives you knowledge of a spell is simply an altered Book or Tome.
  13. "set_attitude(1300,10);" I figure the first number is meant to be between 4 and 119: void set_attitude(short which_char_or_group,short which_attitude) - Sets the attitude of the character/group: 3 - friendly to party 4 - neutral 10 - hostile A 11 - hostile B which_char - Many calls expect to be given a value for which_char. This expects the number of a character, which will be from 0 to 119. (Note that you are not entering the character’s Character ID or the personality. To find the number of a character, in the editor, select the character and look at the number in the first description line.) If you use such a call in a creature script, if you enter a value of -1 for which_char, the function will act on the creature whose script is running. In such a case, you can also enter ME for which_char. This does the same thing. which_char_or_group - When a call expects a value for which_char_or_group, it wants the number of a character or group. This is exactly like which_char, except for one difference: the call can also act on every member of a group. If you want to have the call act on group x, give which_char_or_group a value of 1000 + x. (And remember that group 0 is always the party.)
  14. "but I can't physically exit the town" Town entrances/exits can be tricky. Here, in the direction(s)you are exiting, make sure you have a gap of two squares between the town boundary and the edge of the map.
  15. Spellbook you can't read, you need an item that you won't get till Chapter 4. Ent Bel Tor, you will learn what this means later on. Alice mentioned other libraries, check all unexplored edges of the map, you will find a concealed room... The Clearing that Rose mentioned, you would call it a "difficulty spike", I would call it a death trap.
  16. I did not find the Aranea Cave to be as bad as all that, granted you had to keep alert at all times. Difficulty of game is presumably based upon you going to Formello and upgrading your spells as soon as you can.
  17. Go to Formello, get Bind Foe at level 2, that should make a lot of battles much easier.
  18. Uncursed never did anything to make the item useful when I tried it in A1, it does enable the item to be dropped. Chapter 1 takes place in an area that is roughly 2x2 outdoor sections in size. Hence Chessrook can walk or boat to Formello right now, when he wants new spells or Identification of items. Walking or boating will also restore health and spell energy. (If he has not played Exile 2 or Avernum 2 before, the Chapter 1 area is bounded by those cubic magic barriers.)
  19. You won't get Level 3 Curing for some time, hence it is a good idea to bring down Cave Slimes before they hit you with the acid. Said acid takes a while to wear off. Healers can tell you if an item is cursed, you will see the Uncurse Item entry for a given PC's healing-required screen. Apart from cursing, no item ever has any negative effects so you can wear it immediately.
  20. Today I finished A2 and I feel that A2 is tougher than A1. You will sometimes need Control Foes to get the monsters at each other's throats. Bind Foe is needed a lot. Cave Slime can be beaten with a party full of level 8 Custom characters. Start the fight as soon as you see the Slime, Haste the Mage, Slow the Slime and use ranged weapons. It probably won't get acid on anyone.
  21. ID, identification of items can be done at Formello. Ditto another place you will find elsewhere in the demo, it is a small town consisting of a shop.
  22. A Robe is armor enough. If the armor encumbers the Mage, he/she won't be able to cast any Mage spell beyond Slow! (Unless the Mage has the Natural Mage trait.) As for experience found between Fort Draco and Formello, Chessrook is not using a party of Custom characters... Nor has he bought any spells or spell levels yet.
  23. You need a password to open the gate linking the cave at the rear with the main fort. This is obtained after a fight breaks out at Fort Ganrick. (Leaving via a side entrance may cause you to miss the fight!) Travel between Fort Draco and Formello is quite safe if you buy a boat...
  24. ID is done at other towns, places. (Formello had that service in A1.) Money limit is 15,000. If someone is getting fewer Action Points they have the Sluggish trait or they are overloaded with gear?
