  1. Except for advice on specific parts of the game like locating items, there is no right answer for creating a party and playing. Do try to use proper spelling since you will get picked on about it.
  2. This is going to make my new singleton game more fun. I have to check if I still have some of the stat enhancing weapons left. I can't wait to see how it works with leaving the +1 AP Cryos spear in the quick action slot so I can keep my shield for combat.
  3. Since Jeff posted there's no point in posting odds for starting out as a surface tourist cut off from the touring group. I'm guessing that we start out as adventurers and can join up with the Anama (like in A3) and one other like the Darkside Loyalists since Jeff mentions political intrigue.
  4. Bring plenty of living tools (over 10). There are some nice items in the area.
  5. The west side of Sandros Mine is an expert area to be done after you started in the second map section. Stockpile healing items because it is hard to do as a single character. The trick with the soul twins is to stay along the north edge and move up after buffing (haste, protection, blessing, etc.) just enough to attack them. Use essence shackles to slow them down. Wrack helps to increase your damage. I found spray crystals and the like are great since you can attack both at once. Melee doesn't work as well since one will retreat. The golem is harder to do. That one really helps to have a friend.
  6. You start out as a group of peasants being robbed by a band of adventurers. You kill the adventurers and decide that their life beats what you've been doing. So following a note with a map that their leader was carrying, you go off to seek fame and fortune with the Darkside Loyalists.
  7. No, it's just an intelligent seal acting for its own reasons.
  8. Here's a different beginning. You start out as Anama missionaries sent by to convert that evil mage ridden land of Avernum. Do you keep the faith or turn to the dark side and learn magic?
  9. Jeff's got two little children. Excerise is the least of his problems. He gets plenty keeping track of them.
  10. Mung demons are the worst thing for spellcasters because besides the dumbfounding they deplete spell points. I found the best way to deal with them is arrows and potions until they are dead. Then you can restore spell ability and devaste the rest.
  11. Probably a resource conflict over the sound system.
  12. In order to keep the main topic on track, I'm copying Khoth's question on complexity to a new topic. Quote: Originally written by Khoth: Another specified complexity one. Which has more specified complexity, this: 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197 16939937510582097494459230781640628620899862 803482534211706798214808651328230664709384 4609550582231725359408128481117450284102701 93852110555964462294895493038196442881097566 593344 612847564823378678316527120190914564856692346 03486104543266482133936072602491412737245870 0660631558817488152092096282925409171536436789 259036001133053054882046652138414695194151160 943305727036575959195309218611738193261179310 511854807446237996274956735188575272489122793 8183011949129833673362440656643086021394946395 224737190702179860943702770539217176293176752 38467481846766940513200056812714526356082778 57713427577896091736371787214684409012249534 301465495853710507922796892589235420199561121 2902196086403441815981362977477130996051870721 134999999837297804995105973173281609631859502 445945534690830264252230825334468503526193118 817101000313783875288658753320838142061717766 914730359825349042875546873115956286388235378 7593751957781857780532171226806613001927876611 19590921642019893809525720106548586327886593 6153381827968230301952035301852968995773622599 4138912497217752834791315155748572424541506959 50829533116861727855889075098381754637464939 319255060400927701671139009848824012858361603 563707660104710181942955596198946767837449448 2553797747268471040475346462080466842590694912 or this: 7179374994471968932899819554816509347394525412 7897953005543093323663420161354191224618245794 5007991881043142450052843980321551253470997289 08337787822 1452634601919553992833499234084118015045566334 7207398264725493323946042572726841525706874767 1480326433365462983652496104220542264765816 9930380986367279584737729158237504445599549967 3935890135441162676036522462453471222180512823 8030944572838229345710519033708369430073078 2957596813133954163355769893310165170024984599 9926008776073157327085886645037337014916101092 6685051032677031341935263881271161550994185 5132916732729597370580376499918629949769488217 9136093728937310110004152065233725898040520753 7917909073806182959359004022851842383812350 854901155321642848267232175037499812455181836 687209045641934788441288081790681649882294777 082853137133428565003710783670455167198091980 198024025183023450260794069430642445176697756 856066414749642060384938271218294804580887536 731538047282043934810459189799440255089320969 830516511303719972227279758102078724051956161 435739055431526483390933577220630487436045775 906953809191043509754455794535903587883653103 354336369471326087739253186376399712366710503 334367975814439373214539827385171822754427590 771117545492900959901649804179655816938459085 943008059569590382707234252538409682144688133 876300718646507084898432449192042888276258976 2781037270784587859497626087194 (To give you a clue, the first one is the first few digits of pi, and the second one is random.) If memory serves me, the first million digits of pi have a completely uniform distribution of the numbers 0 to 9. So both strings of numbers should appear to be almost completely random. I'm not in the mood to count to verify for these strings, but they seem to have a fairly uniform distribution. So if you don't know the significance of the first string, they would appear to have the same complexity of information.
  13. It sounds like there will be enough changes so having some tutorial messages will be useful the first time. Besides after a while you get good at hitting the return key to remove the message before you have to read it. I think the idea for more action will either be like Avernum 2 where there is an attack on the starting point or Geneforge 4 where there is a real event to get you into the game.
  14. It depends upon what you do with your shaper. Captain's shiv is nice for the blessing magic boost until you have it naturally and you can always swap it. Guardian claymore is nice for the strength +2 for you since it allows for more equipment without becoming encumbered.
  15. The maps are upstairs, I think in the northwest corner. Just watch that the shade doesn't attack by getting too close, so save before exploring. The southwest corner upstairs has a monster to kill for another reward.
  16. The lower level of that keep is a pain. You need to go south and then east a little fighting lots of Vahnatai. Beyond the room with an altar is a passageway that looks out through a window at the 2 Vahnatai that guard a door. This is hard to see, but there is a lever near the window that unlocks the door. Then you and the Vahnatai allies can get through that guarded door to see Rentar-Ihrno. You have to go back around to the stairs and head north since there isn't a short cut. If they aren't inside the keep, then you have to go back to the upper level and use a wheel to unlock the main entrance. It helps to have lots of health and energy for this area. You might want to go back to Fort Remote and recharge. That's why I always destroy all the pylons to give me a quick and cleared path back to the Fort.
  17. You can always get a character raised from one of the healers in Fort Dunvo or any of the other places. It'll cost some money if you don't have a save from before the death and don't want to replay the fight. There should be a key that you get in the Giant Castle that will unlock a smaller gate to the east of the main entrance. I think there are two keys available (off a giant and I think the other is in a chest). You can't leave out of the main entrance.
  18. One drakon is enough if you have some fire shaping items. You just need something with over 600 health.
  19. Jeff could probably make a Blades of Geneforge, but he will need a lot of convincing that there is a market to make it worth his time. Poor Blades of Avernum sales pretty much have eliminated any chance of seeing it for the next few years.
  20. I think I remember the same problem. I think it was a bad square in the storeroom that causes the problem. Try moving your party differently when you do that room and see if it makes a difference.
  21. The easiest way to beat that unbound is to have a high health creation attack it and hang back out of range and heal your creation. Drakons, gazers, and kyshakks work best. Did you use all the protection spells that you could on your drayks? You need to also try to get close enough to use essence shackles to slow it down so you have more time. It does more damage the longer you fight it. The machinery to the south puts up an extremely tempoary damping field to help keep it from fighting you, but I never found it that useful.
  22. Killing the swamp goblins to collect trophies takes time. Keep circling through the swamp until new ones appear. The best spots are in the southwest below Fort Dranlon and along the water further south..
  23. The A4 header is the area of text above the topics list. The link of interest is Hawk King's A4 Editor. When you look at the text near the end of the file you will see the extra lines of code that alter the characters and give you items. Copy the file and remove the features that you don't want. Then you can copy this file to the Avernum 4 files to replace a hopefully backupped file for the start point of the game. There is another editor or trainer that gives different results, but I don't remember the topic it's in.
  24. Jeff said that there would be more character sprites in A5 including at least 2 more for nephils and 2 more for sliths.
  25. Jeff's working on getting a new Nethergate: Resurrection beta ready for Monday. He wants to get this game out as soon as possible. He'll respond to this thread when he feels like it.
