  1. How many feral and outdoor cats actually die of old age though? 20 is the noteworthy number though, just like 100 is for humans. Is it the real average? No? Is it the highest? No. But it sounds good. At any rate, Cheeseball appears to have lived a long, glorious life, even if he was bored for most of it. Edit: In support of the protest of the base 10 system, Dikiyoba is celebrating Dikiyoba's 191 post.
  2. I thought in your original post that you already had one from the Western Wastes? Dikiyoba apologizes for the confusion.
  3. It's funny, because in the end text of G1 (if you play pro-Shaper) the surviving Sholai (the ones who don't use canisters) meet with the Shapers, the two cultures interact, and your character actually goes to Sholai lands. Dikiyoba thinks that the biggest downside to G2 and G3 is the forced and rewritten history of G1.
  4. Ah. The knowledge brews. Dikiyoba sees your point. For a party of four, they aren't critical (and Dikiyoba never has enough money to buy them anyway) but for a singleton, they would be extremely valuable. But special skills are expensive for full parties and singletons alike.

  6. The "average" cat's lifespan is twenty years but some can live 30+ years, in addition to a few years gained by being an intelligent familiar. But if Cheeseball had lived through the original trilogy, it would already be old and wouldn't live the thirty or so years between A3 and A4. Dikiyoba hopes that Alorael will not ignore this post, seeing as it is beneficial to his theory. Edit: Sig change.
  7. Computers are fickle that way. Dikiyoba.
  8. You don't happen that program or any program that uses it open, do you? It sounds silly but Dikiyoba doesn't know how many times Dikiyoba tried to rename, move, or delete a file that Dikiyoba had open.
  9. Well, Jeff did say somewhere that he wanted to make G4 very different than A4. Of course, that doesn't mean that G4 will be very different than the other three Geneforges. Dikiyoba thinks that the Shapers should use the gene-viewing eyepieces to make creations evolve faster and easier and put anyone who modifies a human (or is modified) to instant death. No more canisters and an interesting plotline.
  10. They were also experienced explorers as opposed to, say, an apprentice Sholai. And I never had a problem mowing down Sholai Scouts and not much trouble killing Sholai warriors. Mages and Augmented Shoalai were a different matter, but that's what my vlish were for. Dikiyoba is noticing that a lot of characters in Spiderweb Software games in in -ai. Sholai, vahnatai, slithzerikai...
  11. Technically, how much loot does a singleton need? They only need one set of equipment so that shop costs are less. Maybe the singleton uses more items, so it might be a little more. They only need to buy five levels of special skills (admittedly, some skills are the same no matter how many people are in the party) so that should mean less special skill cost. And you only need to buy mage and priest spells for one person, so spell costs should be less (at least for me, who gives everyone mage/priest spells). Dikiyoba thinks that having a singleton haul every single item out of a town to sell it is overkill. Just because Dikiyoba's party of four hauls literally everything out of town (the worthless stuff is dropped and lost forever) so that the party has more money and so that items that the party hordes can be moved in doesn't mean a thing. Dikiyoba also apologizes if this sounds like a rant.
  12. Shh! Don't give Dintiradan too many ideas. I'm doing a scenario with a different culture of Vahnatai. The little of the Vahnatai culture we see in VoDT seem very similar to the Olgai Clan. Except that they weren't very hostile yet. The pollution of their lands probably wouldn't give them a good view of people, so the destruction of a Crystal Soul could easily lead to a massive search/infiltration party sent to figure out who is responsible and to bang a few heads together... Dikiyoba. Edit: Sig change.
  13. Yay! I just finished my scenario's third dungeon. Too bad it still has a long ways to go... Hopefully, I will work on scripting/dialoguing a town next weekend. Just posting something about Dikiyoba's scenario makes it more likely that Dikiyoba will actually finish it.
  14. Aa is completely hardened lava that is very sharp and rough. It's stuff that you don't want to walk on barefoot or slip and fall on. Dikiyoba is sorry that Dikiyoba missed or can't remember the scenario(s) with the ice. But it proves Dikiyoba's point.
  15. If you're hydrophilic, you may be water-soluble. If you're hydrophobic, you may be a lipid. Dikiyoba.
  16. Didn't last very long, did it? It sounded like it was built after A1. So we see it up and running in...one game? Not an impressive town. Dikiyoba.
  17. All I'm saying is that it could be done if you really wanted/needed to put food in a cauldron. For one of my experimental scenarios, I created a whole town with custom light sources that could be turned on and off. It was too complex, labor-intensive, and long to be used widely but it was possible. With a little more effort, I could probably have made lights that turned off during the day and turned on at night. Lots of things are possible in BoA. They just may not be good ideas or worth the time to carry out. This is getting ridiculous. Dikiyoba must stop posting and do actual work.
  18. I wasn't refering to A3. I was refering to G2 and G3. Then again, BoA might have come out between G2 and G3 (I have a poor memory. What was I saying?), so I might have been wrong anyway. But I realize now that there were tests in A2 too. And there's nothing wrong with tests. They're just starting to feel overused without seeming like a realistic situation. I'd rather go out and have a good, solid quest directly related to the game. Why maintain testing arenas when its easier just to send adventurers out to beat up some bandits? Dikiyoba.
  19. I think someone else pointed out that error in the endgame text, too, so I don't think you were wrong. Admittedly, everything I know about the game comes from these forums because I don't have the game yet. Dikiyoba will hopefully not have to deal with these sorts of errors by the time the Windows versions come out.
  20. Originally by VCH: Quote: I mean who reads a book twice.[?] I have a stockpile of books that I own that I have read so many times that several have torn into smaller pieces, many more are close to falling apart, others are covered in food/drink/other spills, and most I can "read" the next half-page or so when I come to the end of a page but don't have a free hand to turn the page immediately. I also have a few movies which I've watched so many times they are beginning to wear out and several Spiderweb Software games I've played so many times I can follow the story without reading the dialog boxes. Someday, I will end up with a repetitive stress injury. Dikiyoba finally added the Lord of the Rings trilogy to the stockpile so that Dikiyoba doesn't have to feel bad about rereading them until they are destroyed. Edit: Forgot quote.
  21. Just the fact that this is the third game in a row to have "tests" is a bad thing. Dikiyoba finally writes Dikiyoba's first short post of the day.
  22. I think that the GIFTS are remarkably resistant to magical experimentation. Somehow they survived the School of Magery in Valley of the Dying Things without any harm. A GIFTS (in a high-pitched, cute, squeaky voice): "Ooh! What's that?" Sage Eichler: "It's a scapel. I'm going to cut you open." A GIFTS: "Yaay! It should be fun! By the way, you're cute. Did you know you were cute?" Another GIFTS (in a higher-pitched and squeakier voice): "Oh! Oh! Cut me open first. I think you're cuter than Spider does." Sage Eichler: "What?" A third GIFTS: "I need a mate. Will you be my mate, cute human? I have a juicy chitrach we can shrare." Sage Eichler: "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!" (Sage Eichler runs off, driven crazy by the GIFTS) Dikiyoba seems to be writting long posts today...

  24. This is just a guess, but I think that ice floors are a "bridge" terrain with cold damage that allows you to boat through it but also walk on it (and take cold damage). At least, I think the ice had cold damage, since I don't remember ever taking cold damage. I never used the boat, though, because of the ice lizards in each corner. You can't enter combat mode in a boat. The ice floor graphics are still around in BoA if anyone wanted to mess with them... Dikiyoba.
  25. What's the name of the Empire-controlled city you can get into? Since there's no way to kill the Empire soldiers without the Abyss refugees going hostile and the money from turning in sacks of meal is good, I just steal everything I can. Help the war effort however possible and all that. Dikiyoba.
