Garrulous Glaahk Skribbane Freak
i whas just wondering, what is your favorite type of race? Nephil slith or human?

Magnificent Ornk Ephesos
Yeah, he pretty much summed it up. This kind of discussion has seen its day, over and over and over again. Besides, you didn't include the other, better races (granted, they're unplayable).
Ineffable Wingbolt JadeWolf
How many times has this topic been repeated? Personally I prefer Nephils, and to Ice Drake: If you have trouble spelling slithzerikai, just write slith.
Garrulous Glaahk mistica
personally, i think the question is pretty stupid... coz though we may think we like other races, actually we all prefer humans... (until and unless you are an alien!!)
Unflappable Drayk Fyora Toast With Roamer Butter
The game has scripting calls for having different races in your party. Thus your party will have different reactions based on scripting calls for what races are in your party. You cannot do all the actions in the game, nor can you get all the reactions unless you have a mixed group of critters and humans.
Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
Actually, you can't see all the reactions with a mixed party either. The responses are based on whether or not you have a party member of a certain race, so you can of course only see half of the possible responses. —Alorael, who believes that while there are quests you can only do with a nephil in your party (this may be true of sliths as well), there are no quests that require your party to be entirely human. Avernum is racist.
Ineffable Wingbolt JadeWolf
I only prefer Nephils to Sliths because I like bows better than polearms, and there is no other reason whatsoever (maybe apart from I like cats more than lizards). Ineffable Wingbolt JadeWolf
I only prefer Nephils to Sliths because I like bows more than I like polearms, and bows are more common. That is from the playing Avernum point of veiw. But from other points of veiw I think that all the races must be more or less equal.
Tenderfoot Thahd Roganth
Referring to A3 Nephils are my favourite because of their 2 point dexterity bonus = +10% to hit +10% dodge which is a huge advantage at lower levels (when you need it most) plus their missile damage bonus whatever that is and bonus to disarm traps, if any? Best singleton class and best antimage. I also think nephils look cool Sliths have a massive polearm damage bonus, but this has a cap of 199 points and you miss out on the +1 AP of the mithril sword (my fave weapon) a Nephil with 5 AP can do more melee damage than a slith with 4 AP. Sliths incur the most hostility, which could be considered an advantage or disadvantage. Humans are the worst at melee, having neither an attack nor defense bonus although they will eventually have the highest hit points and skill points
Ineffable Wingbolt JadeWolf
Did I do a double post? Without noticing? Not on purpose? *faints* *wakes up* I must be going pistachios nuts... *faints again*
Magnificent Ornk Kelandon
You know, I can't find the last time this topic was done, which leads me to believe that it was before the last prune. I was going to lock this, but with that in mind, I think I'll leave it open. I bet you can guess what my favorite race is.
Well-Actually War Trall Dolphin
I use all three as it adds more to the story. You will definitely miss out on some things using all of one species. I like Nephil because I have a preference for cats, but I like Sliths because they have a more advanced culture and spirituality.
Well-Actually War Trall Archmagus Micael
I use all three. I either have a 3-person party, or a 4-person party. I don't want to be seen as racist. When I've got The Maze finished, I may get back to playing either A3 or E3. - Archmagi Micael
Kyshakk Koan kuc
I personally prefer to go with a Human party/character. The only time I find there is any true benefit for being Nephilim or Slithzerikai is in the beginning, which is by far the easiest part of the game (ie unnecessary benefit). I'd prefer to level up characters faster to specialise them with skillpoints, than have good bonuses at the start which are later overriden by a human characters faster levelling. In the end: Human +positive traits > Nephilim/Slith with no traits (ie, at same EXP%).
Unflappable Drayk stranger
4 Char: 3 Nephils, 1 Slithzuki. 3 Char: 2 Nephils, 1 Slithzuki. 2 Char: 1 Nephil, 1 Slithzuki. 1 Char: 1 Nephil. This is for the Avernum series, and I've never used a human before
Kyshakk Koan kuc
Would you (or anyone) mind telling me why you chose that? As per my previous post, i found a Humans faster levelling to outweight the bonuses by using the other 2 classes. There was no real Asthetics, although i did at times enjoy the slight plot changes with choosing a Nephilim or Slithzerikai compatriot... Unflappable Drayk Toenail Returns
I personally like sliths better just because they are green. And scaly. And they eat fish. FISH GOOOOOOOOOOOOD!
Unflappable Drayk stranger
I guess I never found levelling enough of a problem to change to human. That and the unique relations, and there was no real reason for me to change. Maybe you play the game faster, so you need to level up faster. I sweep the map clean, O/C I know. Kyshakk Koan kuc
No no, I'm a map-cleaner as well. I like to waste money on spells and skills, so clearing maps for loot is imperative. Same point still stands; More exp = more levelling. Human = more exp. Why bother otherwise, other than aesthetics?
Unflappable Drayk stranger
Yeah, maybe that's all it comes down to then. I think it might be because I used to be a Diablo 2 player. Levelling up in the Avernums isn't mindless, and it takes less time than Diablo 2, maybe I never thought about a need to make it faster. Tenderfoot Thahd Ecaep
I myself like a mixed party, but one thing I can't stand is when my humans outlevel my non-humans. I usually use a combination of character traits to mostly even out the leveling. I admit that it usually means all my characters have a 25% to 35% xp penalty, but as has been said before, reaching max level and gaining xp isn't really a problem in the Avernum games. In the end: Human +positive traits > Nephilim/Slith with no traits (ie, at same EXP%). I disagree that the beginning is the easiest, as your character is weakest at the begining. For example a level 1 character could try fighting the dervish in Silvar or a level 30 character can do the same. A nephil can go places faster and take more risks earlier than a human. I see it the other way, In the end your 80th level human will have more skill points than a 75th level Nephil but is it really worth it to play that slowly throughout three quarters of the game to have a slight advantage at the end when the game is at its easiest? By 35th level I usually have potion making at level 16 and the knowledge brew recipe so skill points are only limited by herbs not level and a human only has a slight hp advantage. Try fighting a pack of giants as soon as you have 8 dexterity as a human and then as a nephil singleton
