  1. I played them in release order so of course that makes sense to me. You can see the changes in gaming as you redo the story-lines. My favorite engine is used in the first Avernum series (Nethergate). The new content and features were were big advancements. Don't be surprised if you end up playing all 3 versions though!
  2. Go ahead and try Avadon 2 then, you can pick male or female. You don't have to play the first to understand the story.
  3. Don't worry about that, some of the encounters are just much more difficult. Since you say you've had a lot of fun, you haven't been doing anything wrong.
  4. I'm just correcting you and pointing this out. I don't use a fighter in my final party.
  5. 10 skill points can get your Resistance skill level to 7. 2 skill points can get your Resistance skill level to 4.
  6. So there's a max number of 36 AP you can have before it resets? Edit: Ah whoops, so maybe it is 31-32.
  7. Since it could be a long time, you might try Avernum 3. If you want to wait that out, Blades of Avernum has some excellent scenarios to enjoy after Jeff's. Did you play Nethergate: R? It's regarded as one of the best in the catalogue. The Geneforge series is probably his most unique work. It's fun and a very different experience to these others. You can give any a try and see if they stick with you.
  8. Priest Spells are a common investment in this series for every character, especially a fighter looking to increase party utility or reach 10 hard points in Resistance. You may wish to read the Strategy Central posts to learn more about party building: Avernum: Escape from the Pit - Strategy Central Avernum 2: Crystal Souls Strategy Central
  9. Bonam, have you tried giving your Mages more levels in Priest Spells? 9 points will give you Unshackle Mind, Mass Healing, and Divine Fire.
  10. The attribute cap is now 50 (up from 40). Humans get 8 bonus traits.
  11. Why don't heals and buffs have 10% miss chance (more if you are debuffed)? What about battle disciplines? Wouldn't it be more interesting to plan for contingencies if your heal doesn't work or you don't get more actions? Does enemy evasion, level difference, parry, buffs etc lower hit chance further than you own hit chance? Does this explain lower than 90% hit chance when you've been putting only Strength on your melee character? If so, can your 20% hit chance go lower than 20%?
  12. Regarding training and the skill tree, you can for example have 12 points in Resistance with only 6 skill points in Mage Spells: A. Put 6 skill points in Mage Spells, train it twice to 8, then B. Put 8 skill points in Spellcraft, train it twice to 10, then C. Put 10 skill points in Resistance, and train it twice to 12.
  13. Define "mage". If this means something like a minimum of 8 points in Mage spells, then I have played with such a party: 1. Priest Tank - Endurance/Intelligence, 8 Melee/10 Hardiness/5 Parry, 6 Mage/16 Priest/8 Spellcraft/10 Resistance 2/3/4. Hybrid Casters - Intelligence/Endurance, 8 Melee/10 Hardiness, 15 Mage/10 Priest/10 Spellcraft/10 Resistance
  14. You can if you just add the item to a script. That's how the trainers work.
  15. Maybe you would like Diablo more than Baldur's Gate? This is a difference in genres for sure. Not all RPGs require much dialogue or linear plot.
  16. Yes, and Savage Blow gets the extra bonuses at levels 7+ that a lot of the others do. This was more relevant to me in the second game.
  17. Jenell's not bad at throwing javelins with dex.
  18. I am a fighter specialized in close combat. I want to lure the enemy into a trap, so I am standing my ground at a cautiously selected chokepoint. I cannot cast any buffing spells (at least not on a decent level). I can try to shoot my bow, but because of my cc-specialization, it will do next to [no damage]. So in the end, I can only hope for not getting hit too hard in the first round. Cast Protection/War Blessing (buff) or Flawless Shot (ensnare). The buffs don't need a "decent level"; the bow doesn't need to do damage.
