I'd prefer to level up characters faster to specialise them with skillpoints, than have good bonuses at the start which are later overriden by a human characters faster levelling.
In the end: Human +positive traits > Nephilim/Slith with no traits (ie, at same EXP%).
I disagree that the beginning is the easiest, as your character is weakest at the begining. For example a level 1 character could try fighting the dervish in Silvar or a level 30 character can do the same. A nephil can go places faster and take more risks earlier than a human.
I see it the other way, In the end your 80th level human will have more skill points than a 75th level Nephil but is it really worth it to play that slowly throughout three quarters of the game to have a slight advantage at the end when the game is at its easiest?
By 35th level I usually have potion making at level 16 and the knowledge brew recipe so skill points are only limited by herbs not level and a human only has a slight hp advantage.
Try fighting a pack of giants as soon as you have 8 dexterity as a human and then as a nephil singleton
