I just would like to know to see if i buy Exile 3 or avernum

Garrulous Glaahk ArchMage81
is there any advantage of exile3 over avernum3?
Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
The only real difference is the engine. If you like Exile more than Avernum, go with E3. If you like Avernum, go with A3. —Alorael, who supposes you could also make the choice based on price. Given how cheap they both are, though, that would be a crazy choice. Understated Ur-Drakon Celtic Minstrel
Doesn't each of the Avernum Trilogy games have a few extra dungeons though?
Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
A1 has Lost Bahssikava and a bit more vahnatai foreshadowing, I'm not sure about A2, and as far as I know A3 is a faithful recreation of E3 town by town. —Alorael, who certainly knows that Lost B is the only significant addition to the trilogy in terms of world and plot. Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
A3 has extra quests from people in town that aren't in E3. Also reputation seems to be more affected. Otherwise they are similar. A2/E2 has the fewest differences that I can recall. Too bad E4 will never be made to fix the flaws in the A4 plot. Hatchling Cockatrice Aoslare
One major change in A2 is Garzahd's weakness, to anti-demon weapons instead of Mindduel.
Easygoing Eyebeast Xaiya
Mindduel? E2, here I come. And what you are talking about is soul crystals, not crystal souls. There is a difference.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Soul crystals and crystal souls are different in that one is used to trap souls to be used for the similacrum spell and the other has a revered soul to be preserved forever. Easygoing Eyebeast Xaiya
Well, maybe not forever because some moron might smash it.
Understated Ur-Drakon Callie
Why didn't Jeff incorporate soul crystals into BoA?
Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
Special items don't transfer between scenarios. —Alorael, who would hate to go hunting for them in every single scenario.
Magnificent Ornk Ephesos
That would indeed be annoying. Really, I just wish that Simulacrum was less broken. Some sort of resistance to being simulacrumed would be excellent...

The only complaint I have over the two engines is that in Exile you could target were the monster appears. It was rather a nice irony to blast 4 Empire Champions into Rentar's fortress ahead of you.
