Garrulous Glaahk Bushwhacker2k
The last time I played A1 I remember losing food nearly every time I went down rapids... but somehow I never lose it now. What determines whether you lose food or not?
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
I think you only lose food in A2 going on the Dark Waters.
Garrulous Glaahk Bushwhacker2k
I think you only lose food in A2 going on the Dark Waters. Crossed my mind, but seems unlikely: "You hit some rapids! (No supplies lost.)"
Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
I think it's random, but outside of the Dark Waters the chance seems to be pretty low.
Garrulous Glaahk Bushwhacker2k
Sorry, remind me what 'the Dark Waters' are?
Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
It's the underground river in A2. The long, one-way route to the Vahnatai lands.

I'm nearly certain that you can lose food in the Waterfall Maze (at least in A2 onwards, but I'm getting the "you don't lose anything" messages when I go down rapids in A1, so not sure). Its random: Matt P's wt says HINT, from TIE187 on the spiderweb message boards: When going over waterfalls, I paddle next to a waterfall, save, go over it, and if I lose food, I reload. Garrulous Glaahk Bushwhacker2k
If it's random then it's a ridiculously low chance, I've gone down at least 30-50 rapids and not lost any supplies.
Magnificent Ornk Kelandon
If it's random then it's a ridiculously low chance, I've gone down at least 30-50 rapids and not lost any supplies. That was my experience, too. But then, I rarely carried food in A1. In Exile, it was more of an issue. Edited May 11, 2014 by Kelandon Earth Empires totally inserted that typo. It was never here. *handwave*

Well-Actually War Trall Ishad Nha
In A1 you only need food when resting unlike the hand-to-mouth nature of Exile 1, loss of food is no big deal. Just go to a town and buy some more.
Garrulous Glaahk Bushwhacker2k
Gotta play Exile some day. Gonna have to find myself a 32-bit comp though...
Well-Actually War Trall Ishad Nha
Try Compatibility Mode, in Windows XP this is accessed by right-clicking on the program file while in Windows Explorer. Then there are simulated versions of the Command Prompt like DosBox or Dfend.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Go to the Exile forum for other threads like this that discuss ways to run on newer computers using emulators or compatibility modes. http://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/index.php?/topic/15486-any-chance-of-working-on-64-bit-xp-sp3/ http://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/index.php?/topic/13788-windows-7-compatibility/ http://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/index.php?/topic/12713-porting-to-exile-intel/
